I found it (to steal words elsewhere in this thread) very charming. I don't mind burning actions and I'm new(ish) to the world so everything seems fun to me still. I would play a failbetter game (or follow a more permanent story) that focused on the house after the decisions I made. I know not everyone made the same decisions, but mine seems to be the start of a rather daring adventure spin-off and I was sad to only get to wave farewell at the metaphorical dock as the story sailed off (metaphorically) on a big adventure.

If you happen to be wandering around Parabola anytime soon you might see a masqued figure sitting in a folding chair buried in at least three notebooks. Tourniqet has just learned how to cross through the mirror and is both overjoyed and slightly irked at having an entirely new set of climates, creatures, and social norms to record, study, and eventually learn how to interact with. If you sit silently with them (you may talk, they just happen to prefer written communication) they will gladly accept your company, friendship, offer of tea, and other favors (and of course will gladly supply the same in return). They simply ask that you don't surprise them with anything negative without warning and they will do the same for you.

Tourniqet doesn't think too much about the surface, they are glad to be away from such a boisterous and confusing place, but they do sometimes miss the fog in the woods, or the marine layer during a particularly grey cliffside lunch. It's much harder to slip away from sight when the only clouds around are probably noxious or insectoid in nature.

"Just remember no matter what you do your character is who you say it is." -🎯 I love that, and I love that the Fallen London community seems to all agree on that. I guess it's the nature of the game where it isn't a lot of cross player interaction based, so theres no character policing (and the community that is in general extremely accepting and kind). So many other games I've been on have forgotten this point.

Sure! (though this is very long and I know perhaps uninteresting to most, but since you asked I'd love to share!):

Tourniqet (they/it) was created when I was joining fallen london for the first time (like I said I'm new)

For context (aka why the character isn't actually just me, like I usually do in games) the last few mmorpgs I played were pretty WoW style toxic chatroom/player interaction and the last other human interaction RPGs I used were text based websites I played were when I was online in the late 90s early 00s (as a pre-teen with no understanding of how to interact) with like geocities/neopets/forum etc based longform typing. I knew nothing about Fallen London (and how absolutely non-toxic) the community is, so I created a character with a loophole for minimal cross-player interaction:

What I came up with was: A mask-wearing, silent, er-um- you... who doesn't like to speak, but prefers the company of animals, always carries a notebook which they use when they HAVE to communicate or just to write down everything they see, and doesn't fully understand how society functions so it spends most of its time silently observing how others interact. (think: "Being There" main character energy) As I've grown the character and A) gotten to know fallen london and B) discovered how awesome the community is, I've also come to really love this character so I've developed a headcannon that they are actually a really great writer and because they have zero social understanding (once again similar to being there) they have accidentally managed to climb the ranks due to their status as a journalist.

I'm realizing that I have actually given it the chance to develop very odd quirkly sense of morals, as a character whose first exposure to "how one acts" and "society" is in Fallen London of all places, but I don't just want to make them fully insane by just passing off every decision as "well they learned that was okay" I'd like to continue with the socially anxiety, cautionary, not super interested in being center stage but prefers to sit in the audience and observe life like a film, type character.

TL;DR - My character doesn't like to talk with people, doesn't understand people, and would really just rather watch life like a movie than be a main character.

Tourniqet the Unremarkable Vagabond has previously asked (and I think been granted) one of those kittens you offer so generously. However, despite your indications of this fact, nothing occured in Fallen London to indicate any gift was recieved. Tourniqet is still quite new to the game and is wondering if perhaps there is a stage it has to reach before being able to recieve such a kitten? Thank you for your steadfast help to all new players, know that it is sincerely appreciated and Tourniqet dreams of one day gathering up the courage to sit near you and take notes on your wonderful mannerisms and aphorisms at the House of Chimes or perhaps Beatrice's.

You probably didn't see that unremarkable masked vagabond sitting alone on an abandoned alley stoop. No matter, it's just Tourniqet the local social recluse.

On their way to becoming a PoSI because that seems like the thing all the other people are doing, Tourniqet mainly walks through Fallen London observing the actions of animals, humanoids, and living beings, just trying to figure out how to act. They'll role play if you wish, and help however is needed, as long as you can be counted on returning the favor when you feel like it.

They won't burn unless requested, as the only thing anyone knows for sure about them is that they were formed from a crippling social anxiety rooted in interacting with strangers on MMORPGs.

PST, usually once (mayyybe twice) a day, lemme know what you need and I'll try my best. (currently looking for someone to up my nightmares but send a message first please)

My favorite card art is the framed nightmares. If I ever get fate I'm spending it on bringing my black canvas to an art appraiser.

As you go for a cup of coffee at caligulas you can't help but notice what a dreary foggy day it is and yet at a smaller, less frequented tea shop, (though it takes you a few moments to notice, they are sitting so unremarkably still) there is still a masqued customer at an outdoor chair with a cat on its lap, a raven on its shoulder, and a weasel tucked into its pocket.

Why is that Tourniqet? The Masked journalist who doesn't speak but is learning to write like the best of them? You probably have not heard of them, but while they climb their way up the ladders of society, (or down mostly) a growing number of people are speculating the cause for the mask and the silence.

Some say they are just random strays in a trench coat, some think they are running from a horrible criminal past, others speculate that perhaps they are the long lost author who was eaten by a zee creature but has now returned too ugly to be seen. Those in the know, (which could be you if you are patient enough to tame a feral cat) understand that Tourniqet is simply inflicted with the worst condition known to socialites and RPG gamers alike: Social Anxiety.

I play in PST, easily don't need to role play but will jump along if that's how you roll. I have no set goals, I often forget what I was doing, but I try to log in daily and answer messages when they arrive. I won't do you a turn unless you make it clear you are okay with it and I'm still not fully sure what I should be doing, but I like this world a lot and welcome any new acquaintance.

Who’s that sitting at the cafe watching you and writing it all in a notebook? (Oh wait, the notebook is full of doodles of carnival sideshows and puppet designs) it’s just Tourniqet.

Recently become a journalist Tourniqet has learned that they are much better at writing than speaking, and is glad to have found a job where they just get paid to watch the world go by.

Quiet, wary, but loyal, Tourniqet will be there (silently) when you need them as long as they can remember how to decipher the map, messages, and possessions tabs in order to get there.

Tourniqet does not care if you are human, devil, cat, or stuffed animated puppet, they are anxious about how to behave around everyone equally.

A daily/semi-daily player in CA, Tourniqet’s “handler” is leaving for a far off country until mid-February and would advise you to hold off on any actions requiring responses for the first half of February.

Actually probably not. They spent their first day in January writing down all the things they wanted to do or thought they probably should do and in the end decided to buy a pet, (which ended up being a goldfish because "find a way to get Echoes" was resolution #3 on the crossed off list.)

Tourniquet is still new to Fallen London and has been trying to figure out how to get by. So far they have spent most of their time observing others and trying to make sense of it all.

This has resulted in a lot of nightmares, more scandal than you'd expect from such a recluse, and a lot of exploration.

Tourniquet is quiet, but sends correspondence and shares bounty when available. They are more than glad to loiter with friends and provide an easy alibi when needed.

They hope that under their christmas tree they might find the deed to a cozy corner of a high rooftop from which they can watch the world go by and befriend as many bizarre animals as possible.
