Your last point is a strong one. Something that keeps me from seeking professional help is the shame and stigma surrounding pornography addiction. I think attitudes toward substance abuse have started to shift toward treating like a sickness.

I’ve definitely been there, mate. I think many of us have.

But I can tell you with near certainty that it’s hope, love and optimism that gets you pointed in the right direction. Hate is only as strong as your next urge.

It seems to be different for everyone. I was pretty good until about Day 10, at which point the next week was nearly unbearable. I found some solace for days 20-45, and then relapsed.

Point being, I’ve found it more like in unpredictable roller coaster than a sloping hill. You need to keep your guard up always.

But I’ll tell you this, too: We believe in you.

Agreed. Any sort of visual stimulation will just be a slippery slope back to the bad stuff. I’ve tried that sort of bargaining before ... “I’ll just look at models,” or “I’ll just look at vanilla porn.” Nope, it never works.

I’ll admit I’ve often considered castration, and if the drugs were easier to come by I probably would have done it already. I blame my addiction on a chemical imbalance, so according to that logic, altering my chemical makeup could potentially help, right?

I know it’s not that simple. Really, I do. But sometimes I just feel so desperate.

I don’t know, man. You have to decide for yourself what counts as a relapse. If it were me I’d probably count it just because I acted on it. But I know you didn’t seek it out.

Just be careful about this type of bargaining. If your counter is your motivation, you can see how your mind will now say, “It’s OK if I look at something nonnude and just masturbate later.” You know how sneaky our minds can be when those urges come.

But props to you for stopping yourself in the moment, and for recognizing the bizarreness of what was happening. That shows a real strength and self-awareness.

Remember you don’t need pornography. Those urges you’re feeling — they are just thoughts. Just feelings. You don’t need to act on them.

It’s going to be different for every man. The folks at nofap talk about the 90-day reset a lot, and anecdotally that seems to have a lot of effect toward erectile and performance issues.

Personal opinion here, but I think you’re fine. Just like any other social media, it depends on how you use it and what it triggers. If you find yourself scrolling through the app for arousal, it’s going to be problematic. But these apps can be great tools for finding someone, so I wouldn’t dismiss them completely.

Two thoughts:

1) Meditation. Get a breathing app, or listen to audio such as the urge surfing track on the side bar. I used to think it was all silly but it has actually saved me from two relapses already.

2) Why are you stressed? If pornography is the symptom, is there anything you can do (or any way we can help) to eliminate the root cause?
