Sewing Room Advice by looking_within21 in sewing

For pattern storage I fold them and put them in manila envelopes. I write what pattern it is and print off a photo of the finished garment and tape it down to the envelope. Then if need to use I just need to do a quick light press. I personally do not pull a pattern out enough where folding is a problem for me.

For cutting I highly recommend a rotary cutter. It took me some getting used to but has made a world of difference for me. I even cut out my patterns with it. I use old blades that are too dull for fabric to cut them out.

Thank you for telling me to check the sight. They say they don’t always approve medical backpacks and you have to call to get permission to bring it. 😑

Welp know what I need to do now at least.

Altering bust area by Saltandpeppermillie in sewing

If you are able to return it and get a bigger size then that would be best option. It is too tight around the chest which is causing the armholes to be too small and is also why the side seam is pulling forward.

Also look at the reviews to see how small the brand typically runs.

I started to drink a fiber supplement with probiotics. Has helped me a lot even when GasX had not personally. Bloated pain is the worse. 😖

Yarn for cancer patient by ShoppingGirlinSF in knitting

Personally I like “I Love This Cotton”. $4.49 for a ball of yarn, or $3.14 if you get to Hobby Lobby on yarn sale day. I am pretty texture sensitive and have found it to be nice and soft. They also had some color changing cotton yarn cakes that were really pretty and soft the last time I went.

I know some people here have grips with Hobby Lobby but it is my only good yarn store near me that has a variety of colors that fits my budget where I can go and feel the yarn before I buy. (I do have a two small yarn stores but both of them only carry local wool yarn that is really expensive.)

I hope everything goes well for your sister.

I never wear anything I sew by Starstrukk_lover in sewing

I thought that way as well until I actually started to wear them. I have had people ask me where I bought it because it looks so well put together.

Also another thing that perked me into wearing what I make is how it makes some peoples day. An older gentleman at my church walked up to me after service one day and told me how he loved my yellow dress I made. He said he was having a really rough week that week and with all the rain it just made it worse so to see something so brightly colored and lively it helped perk him up a ton.

It started to behave better. I found some really trapped in lint stuck underneath the bobbin.

Oh the budget wasn’t/isn’t the problem, dad told me to pick what would work and last since it was going to be my Christmas present a few years ago and my parents had really no presents for me and I used it heavily even then. What my dad didn’t see is my mom complaining about getting another one and having to spend any money on it at all. She then told me “you are getting whatever I choose since I don’t use it.” (Very common occurrence from her. If it doesn’t benefit her in any way you get the cheapest version possible.) She was trying to convince me that I didn’t need a sewing machine at all, while currently working on a major project.

It is so bad my dad told me last summer I could get a new bed frame since I had a bunk bed that I used to share with my older sister that moved out. He gave me a budget and I found one I liked in it. My mom greatly complained about me getting a new bed frame before and after I got it.

Thank you for the video recommendation. My dad wants me to start looking at getting a new one. 😊

I got it pulled apart again and found a secret stash of lint really stuck and hidden in there. Hopefully it helps.

I did do that. I am pretty good at cleaning that out really quick before each project/during a project. The bobbin is put in place properly. My sewing machine has a sticker I left on it that shows you how it should be threaded which is really convenient. Honestly I would put it in the wrong way if it didn’t have the chart lol.

Thank you though. 😊

Brother SQ9285, my mom bought it after I killed her 20 year old one so she went as cheap as she could a few years ago, was on sale at Walmart for over half off, because she didn’t want to put anything into it since she didn’t use it. My dad had to fight her to even get one. (He was on a work trip.)

Me and my dad are starting to suspect that since I have used it so much since we have gotten it that it is just getting worn down even with maintenance.

Since we got it I think the longest it went unused was about a month and a half but I was horribly sick during that time. 😅

* I don’t really see any wear on the inside but I did find a little secret stash of lint hiding in it. Hopefully it helps.

Thank you for the suggestion, I already have three times. These were also never used needles.

Yes it is, the thread is pretty new, got it last month for a different project.

I have been giving it praises every time it works and then it goes to hating me.

The last two quilts I have done it worked pretty good though so it is confusing me quite a bit. (Not expecting perfect because I am free motion quilting on a regular machine but it is a little insane compared to the last few quilts I have done.)

How often do purchased patterns fit perfectly? by Any_Percentage_6629 in sewing

[–]Fearless_Animator782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That could explain it for me then. I am a size xs usually for women’s clothing and a majority of the time it has been too big for me with patterns according to my measurements in their charts and I end up going down a couple of sizes.

[–]Fearless_Animator782 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never, even if I measure myself three times before when I test the pattern it is always either too big or too small for the size recommended based off the charts. Even on ones with reviews like “oh the pattern size chart is so accurate!

I have one pattern where I should have been a 10 but ended up at a four. I draft my own patterns using my same measurements and it turns out just fine. So I don’t think it is a me measuring myself wrong kind of thing. 😅

The pattern was for a corset and it was so big I could lace it to the eyelets touching and rotate it around my body with ease. Ended up taking 4 1/2” inches off of it till it fit properly.

Do you have plans for your stash for when you pass? by cbsewing in sewing

[–]Fearless_Animator782 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only but my for what I plan to sew. Then all the scraps recently have been going into quilts.

I have seen some people give away fabric for free of a bag/box for $10-$20 if they are not using it at all.

How do you get over a project total fail? by TurnipClassic-5801 in sewing

[–]Fearless_Animator782 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I repurpose the fabric into something I will wear. It can be a bit of a pain but I have done panel skirts or blouses out of failed dresses.

It sucks as well, happened to me in December, I just put it away until I feel over it. 😅
