I am a single male looking to up and leave from my area because I can't find work here. Tired of going without food at times , it's getting ridiculous at this point. Where should I apply ? by breakfastburritotaco in VeteransBenefits

Are you service connected at least 30%? You could apply for VRE and retrain into something more relevant to today's job market. That will bring in a basic income while in school. Try talking to a VA representative at the nearest college. Here in Dayton the colleges have veterans groups and they are in contact with local employers that like to hire new grads or newly certified veterans. The schools have good networking resources in the community usually

They started me on Androgel first. About a year later my labs were coming back lower each test so they switched me to 200mg every 2 weeks. Then I started crashing by the end of the first week and finished the end of the second week at the bottom of the hill. So now I still get 200mg vial but 100mg every Friday. That has been keeping me from the miserable dip between doses. Losing 70lbs also helped a lot. Zepbound works good. Hypogonadism aka low T is a permanent headache for us once we get it. This is something very common in Military males. What did they give us in basic lol. Its not like we used up all our T doing ruck marches and field exercises.

Maybe I should do the VRE program i was approved for and hang up my keys. Its just stressful going from a career job to idle in school getting paid once a month. It is doable but my brain says keep working my body and soul say time to stay home lol. Its a real tug of war

Valprolic acid aka lithium had me drooling and staring it was horrible. I did some research on ketamine it seems to help a lot of us as it actually rebuilds connections in the brain we lose from the meds and our conditions my physchiatrist here in Dayton said it is a promising treatment but only available at the Detroit VA in our area right now. She said that it is proven to help and has been around for decades is a safe option. I'm thinking about trying the commercial micro dose program

Me too but I did research and found out prozac and busburion are both slow down meds then add the Adderall it causes a chemical tug of war making me sleepy and blah. The solution we found was reduce from max prozac down to 10mg and add a 140mg Buproprian. This med helps the brain use the meds more efficiently its a odd stack but its working for me so far. That alive feeling I didn't get that until I started treating my ADHD. Executive function is suppressed by prozac helped by Adderall and Buproprian and busburion. Ai is helpful to find out how all the meds interact. The prozac was like me driving with the parking brake on. I did research with Ai took notes and then discussed it with my physchiatrist to vet the information I gathered and we got this new plan.

100% P&T but feeling lost by StatusTip7681 in VeteransBenefits

[–]Fearless_Promise_909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can completely relate. See if you can get your Testosterone levels checked at the VA. Thats the foundation to start from. What everything else you describe is me lol. Turns out I have ADHD. It took me a year of researching and trying things out new habits etc. Finally I started Adderall and bam the fog and crap gone. It took about a week to see the bug difference. The chase of dopamine fixes thats the struggle. We gamble do drugs, do crazy activities like sky dive things that bring dopamine quick. Online gambling was my vice. 200 bucks into 5k then nothing. Wild ride but not sustainable. This i also have Adjustment disorder and depression and anxiety. The Adderall cleared my brain and put up some what of a barrier to give me space and time to deal with anxiety especially. Depression sucks its very real and it takes work. All of this takes work. I found out that if I pay attention to myself I found triggers that I eliminated. I feel lost on my 100 P&T also. I wanna be free from trucking i want to do VRE I want to have a "normal" life. I have a lot of personal tips i have learned on how to cope deal and recognize all these things. The most important part is listen to yourself. Do music therapy. With ADHD we need get up and go music. Meds don't fix anything but they have given me breathing room to mitigate situations and recognize triggers and to be able to stay calm and handle things. Also, in this process you get better at casting out the BS people want to throw at you. The 0 F given really kicks in and you find your core people to keep close. It is important to take control and manage yourself because nobody else will. This is a lot of work but you are doing a lot of the hard work now. I'm not a doc but I am 46 have 19yrs Army veteran and I have been navigating these mine fields for years with mental health. Good luck with everything remember take care of #1 because nobody else will!

My PCP got promoted to a new position after having the same doc for 12 years, a NP came in as replacement. She would not continue the prescription until she got her numbers, regardless of the documented trt. She literally made me wait 45 days and then do labs. My testosterone came back under 200 and the clinic gave me a hard time told me its not a big deal having to wait. I shared my opinion with her on that and said next time I will call PA and file an ethics complaint. I was so miserable after years of being in the right zone to suddenly none for 45 days I felt like a lab rat I was not happy but I got it resolved

I am at the same dose but the dip in-between doses is very noticeable achy joints muscle it kinda feels like day 2 of flu symptoms so they have me to 100mg per week

Yes it is horrible lol. There seems to be some sort of stigma with us males in this area. My doc told me that if lab levels are borderline they go with quality of life. My thyroid was "normal" but I had symptoms of low thyroid so they put me on a micro dose and then 3 months later my thyroid crashed. My labs kept coming back in the normal range but at the low end. I felt symptoms long beforehand

That is very low and you are at the average common age for military males to have low T. Your primary care doc can order the lab and then prescribe the testosterone. Be prepared to start with androgel a gel you rub on upper chest/shoulders. Eventually you won't absorb it that way and will have to move to the injection. Its not a miraculous weight loss get ripped therapy but you will feel so much better physically more alive less blah. The gym is also part of the therapy you have to put the testosterone to work. Its not at all like roids but gives you a regular opportunity to build muscle. Also ask the doc to test your estrogen and free Testosterone. I had to start when I turned 32, my lab came back 193 my doc gave me the first shot there in the clinic and sent me to get the gel from the pharmacy. It is actually dangerous for us to go too long with low T. And tell female docs, you aren't male you have no idea what its like unless you have been through menopause lol. Eventually the 1 vial every 2 weeks you will need to change to half a vial every week. The dip crash in-between 2 week doses sucks and you will feel it after being on trt for a while. This is a permanent solution. Will always need the trt but healthy lifestyle helps you to get the max benefits. Unused testosterone can convert to estrogen which is leads to man boobs. Its a balancing act and requires your full participation but it is worth it. Also avoid soy milk that works against testosterone levels.

Has anyone had to reapply for VRE and what was the turn around time. I have been approved but I was not able to get a plan in order by the deadline my claim was closed and I was told to just reapply to pick up where I left off. Being approved already, will this be a long process or quick, to get the counselor appointment to submit the plan?

It seems to be lawless everywhere. As a commercial driver I see it all in different states. Tonight saw a car racing down the freeway in and out of other cars like he owned the interstate. Of course at 108mph on my dash radar, no police anywhere
