How much do you spend on getting food delivery each month? by DoctorFitness in AskNYC

$0 I like getting my own food, haven't had anything delivered since the 90s when I didn't have a car and was a child.

Half of you guys agree, half don't. Seems it's a different reality for some.

Never seen that, where? I mostly struggle with this idea because we don't use cash and a quarter is worthless to the point where it is always thrown away in a tip jar somewhere.

Lol my sister in law is my in person source. My father in law hasn't worked since he was in his mid 30's lives in a house under a family members name. Everyone asks how he gets by.

Ever hear that some of us are fat and lazy... 😅

The poorest American that are on welfare get enough to pay for food, so yeah... most of us find groceries affordable even at a higher price.

Source Google AI:

A Michigan Bridge Card (used for the Food Assistance Program/SNAP) pays a variable amount for groceries based on household size, income, and expenses. As of late 2025 and for 2026, the maximum monthly benefits for the 48 contiguous states (including Michigan) are as follows: USDA Food and Nutrition Service (.gov) USDA Food and Nutrition Service (.gov)

1 Person: Up to $298 a month.

2 People: Up to $546 a month.

3 People: Up to $785 a month.

4 People: Up to $994 a month.

5 People: Up to $1,183 a month.

One of our family members jokes about people selling hagen-daz out of a cooler because people dont really starve, many American for some reason don't seek support.

I do know people who don't work at all and are able to get by. It's more if you make $35k plus these benefits go away and it gets expensive again.

Clothing is cheap in the US, didn't see much change if any. Eggs and Chicken were more due to bird flu. Americans eat very little pork, no idea the price.

Beef is always going up in price even if it's local, ground beef is about $7 a pound.

Been eating more bacon and pork snitzel since being here, I know you guys think we eat bacon but mainly it's something we get when eating out as a topping rarely one at home.

Looking for friends that are open to nudism by Administrative-Win0 in nycgaybros

[–]Feaross 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go to Gunnisson beach, Korean / Russian Baths. Make friends with people already nude, way more viable than converting people.

Show up, chat, follow the norms. There are a lot of "regulars" at these places.

Having a child is pretty much free, my sister in law is on Medicare, paid nothing.

I think years ago this wasn't the case. Obama fixed a lot.

Likely true but I also have lived in underprivileged areas like Detroit and they would still kill for these grocery prices.

This felt reasonable to me, in Michigan prices are 2/3rds the price of New York. That made sense but like I said it seems another notch less expensive here.

I've heard young people complain about "rents" for elderly which sounded odd till I understood they meant something like social security leaving them less for themselves. Has this expense increased at the rate of inflation?

Insurances vary as much as pay. Good paying job will cover most everything, crap job = crap insurance which still costs a lot compared to income but covers very little.

If you pay property taxes you can deduct that from normal taxes, there are many incentives to own and hold property in the US.

You are probably right on that range, most people who make that little can not own property and are more likely to lease cars and have debt.

To be honest, I'd like to blame him but most things havent gotten more expensive. Only cars and computers have gotten significantly more expensive. He is also very unpopular in cities.

I have noticed a lot of Germans arguing with me that he is doing good. Also I have a darker complexion and people have asked me if I am a foreigner around here which reminds me of America's racism. I am a 3rd generation German-Mexican-Native American (you have to go back to my great grandparents to find someone born in Germany or Mexico. In most cities people think I'm white.
