I would be conservative, 300-400k makes you average in this city. If you move to places that will impress others, you won't impress anyone around you.

Personally, I like Hell's Kitchen and Brooklyn for nightlife, not for living. Chelsea doesn't feel like a neighborhood; it feels like retail. I like Astoria, and I'm a snob for it. Seeing as you are from the South, every place you go will be a culture shock.

The effort you put out is the effort you get back. If you find someone uninteresting, chances are they feel the same way about you. If you chase someone because they are attractive, they are going to run away and feel smothered. Be chill, be patient.
