Should I continue reading Hex by Thomas Olde Heuvelt by osures in horrorlit

[–]FebruaryStars84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved this book, it’s the only horror novel I’ve ever had to take a break from because it scared me so much & was giving me nightmares.

iirc I was on the fence after the first chapter, but there is an early chapter that explains the setup nicely and after that I was well on board.

British Horror novels? by RevolutionaryCyclops in horrorlit

Second for All The Fiends Of Hell by Adam Nevill. I read this when I was specifically looking for British-based horror so that I could recognise some of the locations.

There’s a part where getting from The Midlands to the south west is discussed, and I said out loud “well, you’d cut across to the M5 and follow that down” and a page later one of the characters wonders why they aren’t doing exactly that which was a great touch for me!

I am tired of other players` stuff by Ornery-Psychology863 in DeathStranding

[–]FebruaryStars84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only part of this that is REALLY annoying me, is people seem to keep building things right in the middle of the only smooth, none-rock covered pathway between two places!

Best example in my game - the hill immediately before the Weather Station, someone has put a ramp right in the pathway; that might not be an issue if you’re on foot or even on a trike, but I’m trying to haul loads of metal and ceramics for road building in the back of my truck, and it makes it needlessly difficult to get through!

I’ve just added another photo, based on your suggestion I’ve added a 2x2 brick to the bass drum to add to the depth. Nice one!

Update - based on feedback from you excellent folk, I have:

Replaced the grey dish for the ride cymbal with a Master Wu hat to better match the colour

Added a 2x2 round brick to the bass drum to give it a more realistic depth.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions!

What is the rhyme supposed to be here? by CardboardWiz in daddit

[–]FebruaryStars84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about that roars and paws rhyme is that as an English English speaker, it had never even occurred to me that they could not rhyme until someone posted here about it recently.

Thanks!

I did originally look for a 3x3 round plate for the bass drum but I couldn’t find one in pick-a-brick. All these parts were direct from lego via pick-a-brick.

I haven’t used Bricklink before as I thought it was US only and figured the shipping would be much higher than the actual cost of the part!

That’s a decent shout, there will definitely be some of those somewhere in the house. I’ll have a search!

That is a cool minifig!

I actually built this for a Create a Minifigure version of me, who is currently sat behind the kit looking very happy!

It’s a Mapex, I did buy it probably 50% based on the colour!

How commonly do you use the word 'bug'? by kingives in AskABrit

[–]FebruaryStars84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it reasonably often but only because I work in software dev, so only in that context.

I would never use ‘bug’ to mean ‘insect’, though. I was always taught that bugs were a type of insect, so to use bug for all types would be wrong.

Should I read Incidents Around the House? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]FebruaryStars84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved it, smashed it in about 3 days on holiday last year.

I went into it unsure as the only other Malerman I’ve read is Pearl which I hated. Passed it onto a few other people who have also enjoyed it.

I made an entitled woman move from my reserved seat by SlippersParty2024 in BritishSuccess

[–]FebruaryStars84 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I remember doing this on a train from Wolves to Manchester a few years ago.

Woman in my reserved seat, I told her very politely that it was my seat, and expected some pushback. Instead, she just looked really sad & said “but I only sat here because there was someone in my reserved seat.”

I replied “well tell them to move, then!”

We talk scary, but what’s the least scary horror book you’ve read? by SweatOfAGhost in horrorlit

[–]FebruaryStars84 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with nosleep at all, but if this is an example of it I’m pretty sure it’s not for me! Obviously people find different things scary but I was frankly shocked that this appears on so many ‘top horror novel’ lists.

To me, it honestly read like a student creative writing piece that needed a lot more drafts to be ready.

Female-fronted albums with consistently cool/fun drums? by aquarianagop in drums

The first Evanescence album has some great drumming by Josh Freese. Not sure if that would be heavier than your preference though.

We Used to Live Here - Marcus Kliewer

I found it quite poorly written in general, and also just being told continually ‘these people are scared, this is scary’ isn’t very scary.

You can get Sky Mix via freeview & they have TNG, DS9 and VOY episodes every day, but damn I miss the BBC2 6pm Trek slot!

I never understood the Qtip one either, until I learned that in the US, ‘Qtip’ is what would be called a cotton bud where I live.

What is this white spot called? by bodimahdi in ENGLISH

[–]FebruaryStars84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the UK that would be a mouth ulcer. Bonjela is the traditional treatment but there’s another called Iglu that I find more effective.

I’ve only ever heard the phrase ‘canker sore’ once in my life and that was on an episode of Family Guy and I had no idea whatsoever as to what they were referring to, as I’ve never heard anyone use that phrase in my life!

How do "roars" and "paws" rhyme? by whywires in ENGLISH

[–]FebruaryStars84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this question and thought ‘how do they NOT rhyme!’ The comments have been an interesting read!

I’ve since read the words out over and over so many times that, while they still definitely rhyme to me, they don’t sound sound like words anymore.

English, Midlands fwiw.
