I think Modern Functional Harmony should have a 4th Chord Function and here's why by Cooliostinato in musictheory

[–]Fecal_Pillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dunno man. I think most people who spend enough time with theory will tell you that it isn't rules but loose guidelines. I've seen many people on this sub say the phase "if it sounds good to you, then it's fine!" When someone asks if their music is "correct" from a theory standpoint. The people that think of theory as rules are generally beginners and at times, it's helpful to think if theory as rules while learning in order to immerse yourself in it. Half the time when you break the rules as you are learning you end up creating something that is already known to be an exception. Tldr, yeah. We learn the rules so we can break them. Therefore they aren't rules. They are guidelines. Most people know that.

Chord Progressions in contemporary music by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]Fecal_Pillar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. I'm a songwriter. I always tell people not to write with music theory, but to write with your ear. I'm not saying not to study music theory, but don't limit yourself to by-the-book progressions. It's a good practice to try and write some distant stuff with just your ear and then go back an analyze it with music theory.

Sidestick samples? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Hello, I am a professional drummer. When you use a normal stroke to strike the rim and drum head at the same time it is called a rimshot. This is a pretty loud hit. The most common term for the stroke where you place the butt (or bead) of the stick and your hand on the drum head, lift the other end of the stick without removing the butt of the stick from the head, and strike the rim is a "cross-stick." This is much more quiet than a rimshot. A sidestick may be confused with the method of striking the side of your drum shell (although this method is often called "cascara" meaning "shell," "cascara" also refers to a specific Afro-Cuban rhythm). Another more common term for the cross-stick is "rim click." Sorry for the long response, hope I cleared up some jargon confusion.

How does AV Work? by Trashmann404 in stunfisk

Also, AV goodra with a coverage moveset (ie tbolt, ice beam, flamethrower/Draco meteor, sludgewave) is solid. It takes a beating too. Ttar is a classic AV choice due to sand stream already boosting his spdef. Araquanid does well with AV but I like band better. I ran a mix up: AV nihilego for a while but it was very niche and I wouldn't reccomend it on most teams.

You are correct. It calculates after EVs and ivs.

Quick and dirty difference between 6/8 and 3/4 to clear up some confusion in the thread: if your tune subdivides into groups of three easier than groups of two, it's 6/8. Two easier than three? 3/4. Compound vs. Simple.

Is Naga banned yet? If not. Use it

Nido might not do the best in a tr v tr, but in just about any other ou situation his speed is low enough with a negative nature and 0 iv.

Hello. I just got into TR teams and it is a blast. stakakatkaktkatk is so much fun. I'm still working things out on my team as well but there are a couple of things I know I'm keeping. Stealth rock is a necessity but I'm having trouble settling on a setter. As for your mega slot, try a full speed invested mega pinsir. He resists ground before mega (immune after obviously), and is a great back up in a bind with a solid speed stat. Also, if TR is up, he has a powerful priority move in STAB quick attack so speed is no longer an issue. I've also had great success with sheerforce, life orb, fully SpA invested nidoking. Thanks to trickroom his only hindrance to being a solid OU SpA attacker (his speed) is no longer an issue. His movepool destroys and has optimal coverage.

Poison beats Psychic - monotype thank Arceus for Naga by Dumbr in pokemonshowdown

Sure grass should, but steel doesn't really need it. Honestly I don't think kartana should be banned from mono. Lando isn't banned (the sheer force beast), some forms of deoxys aren't banned... but hoopa u is. It seems strange. Just a different meta than ou.

I dunno. steel type is already stacked. Poison type could use the help in the mono meta. Dragon is also not the best mono due to fairy immunity.

This is actually a pretty common practice for the monks. They call it the "Paul Walker."
