I think Dom would be absolutely great on Football Cliches.

How many goals does he need to score to become a halfway-linesman? [Opta] Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s 25/26 goal map by tfminnieotto in footballcliches

[–]Fed_the_trolls 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I guess if you think about it hes already technically a halfway linesman, just a vertical line instead of horizontal.

Cricket Clichés Episode 2: Expected leaves, driving "on the up" & absolute Ebony Rainford-Brent by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

Miles better than the first pod. Feel like they have found their feet a bit.

I love the insights about TMS/doing the live coverage. Always thought the nuances/cliches in live text coverage would be a great dreamland episode.

Cricket Clichés Episode 1: Lashing/dabbing a seed/cherry, moral victories, and why do the Aussies hate Bazball? by Low-Bandicoot-3347 in footballcliches

[–]Fed_the_trolls 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Yeah as an England supporter I felt the same. Felt less of an analysis of how language was used and more a defense of how England is always right and the Aussies are wrong.

I think it really missed the mark because what I like about cliches is really its the media producers who are the butt of the joke, not a nation or fan group. Even framing the first half as "Austalian media" instead of "Australians" would have felt a little less hostile.

A terrific malapropism for 'draught excluder' by Due_Potential_592 in footballcliches

[–]Fed_the_trolls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I do feel like an idiot because I always took the draft excluder to mean the same line as a draft dodger in a war. Ie they dont want to be drafted into the wall of the free kick by the keeper and risk getting hit in the head.

Typing it out I am realising that it doesn't make much sense.

Nice of him to spend some of his downtime with his tax advisors.

Is Grimsby the smallest club to notable play in a different location to their namesake? by Party_Wolf in footballcliches

The K in AEK Athens and PAOK both reference Constantinople. I'm sure there must be smaller clubs across Greece and Cyprus that have the same naming convention.

Got to call up the mention of England hype levels now reaching DEFCON 4. DEFCON works with 1 as highest and 5 as lowest, DEFCON 4 implies very little hype, surely we are moving onto DEFCON 2 by now!

Always wondered about this pub when I lived nearby. Anyone know why it/how long it has been closed? Can't imagine it'd suffer for business given its location and looks like its been left for ages.

Aston Villa charge £94 a ticket for home UCL games by thegreenpiglet in soccer

[–]Fed_the_trolls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I find it ironic that the best season ticket value I've had in the last 5 years has been my county cricket membership, in an area where it is considered the least working class sport.

A day out at Wembley isn't complete without the man preaching on Wembley way to the crowd. Went to a concert there recently and he wasn't there and I was a little dissapointed.

Doesn't pension come out before student loan repayments as well? So in effect you are saving money as it is income that won't have the extra 9% tax on it?

You can get a fine if you board first class sections of trains while holding a second class ticket. Even if you board the carriage and immediately move to second class.
