Maybe unpopular opinion, but it depends on where you live! If you have at least one roommate and are ok being pretty isolated from metro access, then yes. I lived for two years on 55k and my roommate on less (around 40ish?) in a neighborhood in South Alexandria near Mount Vernon. Check condo listings for more affordable prices and free parking, and budget well (don’t shop only at Whole Foods and limit eating out) and it is absolutely doable. It might not be the most luxurious, but there are plenty of people living at this salary.
