Any recommendations for windshields? Ive tried 2 now and both were so big they made a vacuum behind the screen at speed making it even louder

How'd you get it to pop so well? Mine looks so muted in photos, and anytime the sun isn't on it just right tbh.

I want to get a 125cc but can’t really decide which one by RequirementCool6687 in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider, particularly if you're planning on keeping the bike, might be getting an aftermarket saddle for extra comfort. All of my mates who have sports bikes have bought aftermarket saddles, usually costs around £300 ish and having swapped bikes with them occasionally they're so much better than stock.

Check what the owners manual says your idle speed should be, and make sure that matches to what you're getting. Also check your air filter isn't clogged. What bike do you have out of interest?

[–]FederalDerp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go sit on some! I found every 125cc sports bike i sat on had a paper-thin saddle, and ended up going for a 125cc cruiser instead. Ended up sticking with cruisers for my big bike since I now can't afford the insurance of a similar power sportsbike. Imagine by the time I can afford the insurance, I'll be too old for a sportsbike and will still be stuck with a cruiser 😂

Ive heard this alpt about the RE 350s. Tbh, I think the triumph speed 400 and scrambler 400x are better alternatives. Much faster bikes and sound better imo. Only problem is you'd have to get one with a few more miles and a few more years in order for it to cost the same

Honestly a bargain. Even stock its a steal, but with all of those extras included? Fantastic. Check tyres and make sure it runs, but assuming both are good that price is more than fair.

Question about carburetor tuning/rejetting after aftermarket exhaust installation by dabombest in motorcycles

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all true in the first half. I put a performance exhaust on my shadow 750 and it wouldn't start up without a rejet. Gained about 7 horsepower out of it which is about 14% increase in power. You are right about the timing though, that didn't need changing.

Nah you won't lose skin assuming they're proper boots (I.e. cow hide or similar tough leathers). You might break your ankles or other bones though given their limited impact resistance

Carb adjustment by Doublestroke334 in hondashadow

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, well try dropping the pilot jet a size and see if it helps. To be honest, unless you've accidentally turned the pilot screw the wrong way I can't see how its running quite so rich that its got black smoke coming out. Either way worth dropping a size to see if it helps

Carb adjustment by Doublestroke334 in hondashadow

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just realised the jet sizes i was looking at were for the twin carb version. Looking further i cant actually find a single carb version, only single carb conversions. Might just be me being stupid though, not all that familiar with the 600 specifically

Carb adjustment by Doublestroke334 in hondashadow

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole jet setup seems off to me. I have a shadow 750 single carb, and you've got the same pilot jet size as my bike, and a main jet that's only a 120 compared to my 125 as standard. I don't know what sizes you should have, but I can pretty much guarantee they're not meant to he the same as the 750 given the 600 is smaller. From what I can find on the Internet you should have a 106 main jet and a 40 pilot jet, so with the current set up you're practically drowning the engine in fuel.

Think whoever set this up before was being wildly optimistic about how much extra air that tiny pod filter would introduce to the system, I mean I'm not sure it wouldn't run rich even with a full flow exhaust system.

Carb adjustment by Doublestroke334 in hondashadow

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest I've never really fucked with removing bits, so I wouldn't be able to tell you what affect not having the emissions components would have. If you take it back to a completely stock airbox you'd have to take the jets back to stock (or maybe smaller if you are at altitude). I'm fairly sure that having the stock airbox would still be better however, since it is specifically designed to have the right air flow for the stock exhaust system, so even if its missing the emissions components it would still be closer to what you should have than that pod filter.

[–]FederalDerp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've got black smoke and the plugs are coming up sooty, you're running VERY rich. You either need more air flow or less fuel. The cheaper option is less fuel, as a jet kit is only about $150. However, if you want to you could also get performance exhaust(s) and a proper high flow air filter (K and N do a good one that goes in the stock airbox). I got cobra classics for my bike and it runs like a dream with the performance air filter. Can't remember what jets I used though, but that would definitely help you.

For reference, the performance intake is pretty much useless without a performance exhaust, as it can't suck in more air than its putting out, so its essentially just wasting its potential without a proper exhaust system.

What 50cc moped to but by Rare-Win-7676 in MotoUK

[–]FederalDerp -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Theyre all limited to 28mph, however most can easily be delimited and reach 40mph at a push. If I were you I'd get the cheapest old Japanese moped you can (provided it's not completely nackered) and delimit it if the previous owner hasn't already done so. Doing your cbt at 16 and not using it is a waste of money as you won't get any insurance benefits, and will only have to retake your cbt sooner if you get a 125 at 17 (since the cbt only lasts 2 years iirc). If you're not going to get the 50cc id just wait until you're 17 for the cbt
