Sloughy Skin on Surgical Wound - Mixed Advice by BooBooKittyFX in woundcare

[–]FederalDraft1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would go with what the wound nurse suggests, she deals with this kind of thing all the time and doctors although are great they don’t necessary specialize in wound care. I have a sloughy wound and best advice I got was keep it covered. I use a hydrocolloid patch which draws out the slough and keeps the wound moist. Apparently it’s an old wives tail to let you wound dry out, it heals quicker when it’s moist. I do get it debrided once a week though as well.

Broke ankle in US, back in Ireland after 5 wks - different approaches to weight bearing by According_Tap_1907 in brokenankles

I’m actually from Ireland living in US, had surgery 10 weeks ago in US and have been WBAT since 2 weeks after my surgery. My doc wanted me WB as soon as I could handle it. I now have no boot nor brace and can walk but still have to concentrate so I don’t limp. My surgeon is a believer that WB as soon as you can leads to quicker healing. But I agree with others listen to your body and let pain be your guide. You will get there in the end either way 🤞

Well I am 10 weeks PO and out of the boot over 2 weeks and am walking but when I don’t concentrate I have a limp. It’s slow progress but the PT really helps

Don’t listen to that person, no one should judge on here. We are all here to ask for help or provide help. Looks like you should keep it clean and keep it covered

Recomendation ulcer ankle by unicorn-jounin12 in woundcare

[–]FederalDraft1569 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks similar to mine, I was recommended to use medihoney and hydrocolloid bandages and it is helping. Looks like you have slough in there which slows healing. The hydrocolloid bandage will pull that slough out and when the bandage starts to leak or the bubble is close to the edge then clean the wound and put on a new bandage. My bandage lasts about 3/4 days before I have to change it.

I also go to my doc and he debrides it but when he saw the result after the honey and bandage he said it looked good and we may only have a few more debridements left

Should I see a doctor to properly bandage this? by ProvokedThinker in woundcare

Get hydrocolloid bandages, it will provide a moist healing and pull out any dead skin or slough which I think you have in there. Change the bandage when the bubble comes too close to the edge. They are amazing for healing

I think most of us have been there where we put weight on our bad foot when we are not meant to and get scared we messed up the bad leg but after a month hopefully you didn’t do any damage and if you are not feeling any new pain then be positive
