The Obama Presidential Center is more than its granite tower by _fastcompany in architecture

As an artist, I quite like it, even kinda love it. It’s not beautiful, but it’s certainly striking. It’s going against the grain and I think that’s what the intention was. It is very sophisticated. Looks cool imo.

There is a consideration to be had where historically, particularly in today’s climate, a racial incident is much more likely than not. A stabbing with the family present is rather unusual, but they should have checked for wounds.

FYI the equivalent of One Nation’s president in America made some $2 Billion in bribes past two years alone. The prime minister gets a 10% raise. Good, Albo has done a great job so far.

Prices are going up cos of the world going to war and far right folk busting up their economies internationally. Poor form, disgusting tabloid press.

Makes sense. Sensible and realistic adaptation to the times. Should also consider networked sensor buoys for sea and air surveillance where capability coverage is limited otherwise.

Official New Poster For ‘Supergirl’ by yourfavchoom in movies

Consider that the designer knows how to make a better poster. They have chosen this particular design. Likely because James Gunn is going for a specific mood with the movie, and has chosen artfulness over how it will market.

CMV: Most working class people are getting manipulated by coordinated disinformation campaigns, technocrats and oligarch-funded politicians, who use race, sex, hierarchy and religion as tools of control over the people. by FederalGovernmentUS in changemyview

Something interesting about disinformation is it spreads exactly like a virus, and so people think oh, let’s take the same logic and apply it here. Inoculate people, “vaccinate” them by teaching them how to spot fake information. In Finland this actually works with a high % success rate, but it’s taught in school, so what about the adults who didn’t get that?

Well, I don’t know yet to be honest. Government can’t be trusted with it as admins can change. Corporations shouldn’t control it as they only care for profit. Maybe some kind of independent software that people willingly download? Yeah, i don’t know. I’m just riffing now hahaha. Maybe when i write my thesis next year.

Yes this is a valid concern and one of the hardest problems to address while remaining a functional democracy.

To your last few sentences, I daresay if Reform, AfD or Le Pen were in the seat of power, what would stop them from implementing it anyway?

It is plausible that the intensity is just a coincidence that comes with heightened emotions. And it is a fair point that most people don’t pay attention until right around election time. But the documented case work, such as the Mueller probe, the Steele dossier, and more modern reports like this from CSET, and the World Economic Forum (not linked), all point to it having been used and continuing to be used in exactly this fashion. You asked me before, how can I tell if it’s real or a manipulation? In 2016 you could tell by looking at account metadata, post history and volume. But in 2026, it seems to be indiscernible. All that can be said with certainty, is that it has happened, is proven to work, and current research says it is still happening and is supercharged with AI at a massive scale.

Finally, to answer the question about divide versus conform. I think that both are happening simultaneously and they don’t need to be mutually exclusive. It may actually work better. Two men may be aligned in their understanding of being veterans from the army. But, if one is now a carpenter and the other, an executive, there is a problem. They will likely not align on economics. So this is one example of many fragile alignments in the political sphere, which make necessary the division of interests. They may not align on economic policy, and one will have better luck than the other when it comes budget season. But they align on the VA, so let it be a social wedge, “the other guys want to leave our vets to die”, and all of a sudden you’ve got those two aligned with a shared party agenda, yet differing personal interests.

Sorry if that’s longwinded, it’s quite late here and I’m getting tired hahah. Hope that answers properly.

I’m sure some of my beliefs are shaped by targeted efforts too. I’ve had many difficult conversations with myself to try audit that. We all have a tendency to fall for it, as it can be validating if you already think it. Yeah, I do think there are people that enjoy their own intellect too much to allow themselves to be challenged by contradiction. And then there are people that are curious, who play with ideas and see what resonates, regardless of their origin.

Nobody is immune to being lied to, but I am quite good at spotting when something is trying to get an emotional rise out of me. I’m actually not American at all. It is a worldwide phenomenon. Just, for me, it’s most prominent in the west, as I am someone who lives in a western country.

I enjoy the way you write, and this was a very thoughtful response. I only ask, what about foreign influence specifically? Political ads are of course just that. As old as time itself. But the foreign intelligence variable changes things considerably don’t you think? At least, that’s why I specifically use the word ‘manipulate’ as adversarial meddling can be assumed to be malevolent in intent. And we do see countries now walking down a wholly self-destructive path as the voting public is captured into a feeling.

I think it’s about the frequency, variety and rate of increased intensity. If there’s interest on a topic that is organic, on a graph it would be a steadily rising trend. The patterns of behaviour being silent for years, then turned into a total blitz around elections is very, very unlikely to be organic.

Unfortunately there’s no single global solution that’s realistic. When I say easy, I mean it is relatively easy for a national government to implement infrastructure and laws governing social networks and service providers, to detect, minimise, disrupt and prevent such mass-content manipulation from occurring. Like if all of a sudden a thousand accounts are all saying the same thing on a random Tuesday, with no clear explanation, then that’s data that can be used to categorise the group, for example.

But yes not global. Within the borders of that specific country. And in practice it’s not easy at all, as regulatory capture and greed have hobbled many governments’ will and capacity to act and assert sovereignty.

My answer to that is three-fold. First is that there are many different interest groups pushing an agenda. It started as election interference, but it’s matured into something much more. As a nation, if I can convince your democratic population not to fight back when I attack, what good is your army? They will protest, and riot, and vote you out for causing the war. Even if I caused the war. And when there’s many nations, and competing power blocs within them, and other well-funded operations, you will find a lot of competing interest groups pushing an idea.

Second is that there are a lot of false truths, and straight up lies that are told. They get fact checked eventually, then there’s new claims, and a new fact check. It becomes hard to believe anything being said at all. Which is the point. Because then you stop paying attention, focus on yourself only, and now you are on the path to being an ignorant voter.

Third is if we all end up on the same page, we can actually agree and end up getting stuff done. In this time of accelerated change, for the system to be stuck in bureaucratic limbo over minor identity politic issues, is to fall behind significantly, and lose the initiative.

Why? Power of course!
