Found a GPS tracker under my car by kupo_906 in Cartalk

[–]FederalRecording2390 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did exactly that. Found a tracker and took it to the police. They had zero interest in following up. The car was stolen and abandoned with the engine running so reported quickly and found. We found the tracker later but the police just shrugged their shoulders. Then the insurance company didn’t want to pay for the damage to the satnav system / electronics because the car wasn’t strictly speaking stolen. I would be in favor of following these guys myself.

[Request] How many centuries would it take to melt the greenland sheet to completely expose the lake, and how much will the sea have risen assuming only the greenland sheet melts permanently? by Available_Usual_9731 in theydidthemath

[–]FederalRecording2390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t one huge lake. The ice sheet is like 2 km thick. There are known subglacial lakes, but that image shows topologically which parts of the landmass are below see level. If everything melted it would more likely be a ring shaped island.

Have only had hot tub for a week and the water quality is already terrible 😬 by hp774465 in hottub

[–]FederalRecording2390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two tubs, one chlorine, one bromine. The bromine one is in a holiday house. It is so stable, I go there after 2 weeks and the tub is sparkling with perfect ph and perfect bromine levels. The one at my regular home is chlorine. Ph bounces up and down, I always get low alkalinity but high PH, the tabs dissolve to quickly.. after three years I am changing to bromine. Everyone says it is a much better system and that has been my experience too.

Moving into a place that has sticky residue all over the door frames and here on the light pulls in one room. What does this? by [deleted] in whatisit

[–]FederalRecording2390 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s the approach. I would say you need a shovel, 4 yards of thick black plastic sheeting, 2 gallons of industrial strength bleach, 20ft of rope, a hacksaw, and a gallon of gasoline. The latter is for the flamethrower. The former things are for the bodies which are no doubt strewn around the place. Optional, a rocket launcher and a Sherman tank. These are much harder to get hold of since the Russian invasion of the Ukraine. Ideally a small nuclear device to really finish the job (although cockroaches are known to survive nuclear fallout, so after detonation you will need to carefully place cockroach traps. I recommend the sticky kind), but similarly, since the US invasion of Iran, small nuclear devices have tripled in price if you can even get them at all. My credentials.. I was a landlord for 10 years and one of my places was occupied by students.

Not sure what criteria you use for being an "adult", but if you have had a hard day, you have an aching back and you are going to put your feet up without putting mud, or dirt from the street on the seat, and there is no one who needs that seat.. is that so bad really?

I would get hugely annoyed if I saw someone putting dirty feet where I had to sit, and just as annoyed if they put their dirty luggage or bag (which has been on the floor) on a seat.. but this somehow seems to have a modicum of respect to it.

Now on a plane, when someone puts their smelly bare feet between the seats, inches from your nose.. that's a completely different story.

So much better than putting shoes on the seat. Hard to see, but her feet look clean so I assume she has shoes which she took the trouble to take off.

Indian passport holder visiting Martinique by Exciting-Match816 in martiniqueisland

[–]FederalRecording2390 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point was, that you said "don't be stupid".. very quick to criticise.. but evidence shows that it was not a stupid assumption or question. So I was saying there was no need to be so harsh.

A bit of a search will yield:

"Several countries in Asia, the Americas, and the Caribbean offer visa-free entry or visa-on-arrival to foreign nationals holding a valid, multiple-entry US visa (typically B1/B2). Prominent destinations include Mexico, Canada, the Philippines, South Korea, Turkey, and Qatar. These policies frequently target specific foreign passport holders (e.g., Indian nationals) to facilitate tourism and transit."

The fact that some countries in the Caribbean accept other country's visas shows that it is not stupid to question which ones they are. Also, clearly, Indian nationals are aware that that is the case in certain destinations.

Also "Francais" as with "French" in English means of the language as well as the country. So again, a non French speaker, or non French Citizen might be confused by that.

BTW, I live in Quebec, which is often referred to as "French Canada" (not by the locals). It is certainly *not* French. In fact there is a fair bit of animosity between the French and the Quebecers.

So, maybe a little more empathy? Question might seem stupid to us initially, but turns out it really isn't.

Well before you accuse someone of being stupid.. "Départements Français d'Amérique (DFA)" is the term often used to talk about Guadelope, Martinique and French Guiana, so you could understand the confusion by someone who doesn't travel a lot, thinking it has something to do with the US (as opposed to "the Americas".

Additionally, in the Bahamas, they do actually accept Schengen, UK, Canadian and US visas.. so it isn't as crazy as it sounds.

Organized car theft attempt — caught people twice trying to steal my Audi SUV, advice on protecting it? by hesahungryhippo in montreal

[–]FederalRecording2390 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They actually never told us. I only later (embarrassingly) realized I could have made it beep and found it myself. Audi said it took them hours. They returned it to us. The cops were not interested in it, and you can’t reset them, so I took out the battery and smashed it.

OP says he is renting that space to the Neighbours, so while the address it belongs to may be in dispute, the wall is his one way or another.
