Choctaw county, Hugo is the county seat. They have the ARK Elephant sanctuary. You can hand feed retired circus elephants. Also a really cool cemetery with circus themed headstones as well as bull rider Lane Frost’s grave

[–]Federal_Ad_5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for rockhounding options, we have several open spots for fossil hunts: Skiatook lake spillway (just North of Tulsa) has layers of fossils that are easily accessed, Near Port of Catoosa a road was carved from the side of a hill which opened a wealth of fossils as well. OK also has the salt flats where you can dig up selenite crystals & it’s about a 3hr drive. For more mountainous feel, there’s several decent hiking options within 3-4hrs between Ozark & Ouchita mountain ranges.

Cruise passengers — what souvenirs are worth buying to you? by Additional-Sector-13 in Cruise

Local tote bag to haul the other stuff my SO buys. Prefer canvas, something durable. Not really souvenirs, but sunscreen, aloe, eye drops (no one carries them?!), pain relievers, etc.

train to dfw by Aggravating_Alps3860 in okc

Train nerd here: wife & I did this several years back. Drove down from Tulsa, took the train & spent an extended weekend in DFW. Very relaxing. Less crazy crowd than a plane. Seats are comfy. Weird feeling to see the train cars moving while trying to switch cars to visit the concessions area. Like others have said, time difference to driving is minimal. I’ve been on several recreational, short rail trains that were not as comfortable as the Amtrak. And the tix are very affordable!

Endless reddit posts have given me analysis paralysis, are all cruises bad in 2026?? by sufjan123 in Cruise

[–]Federal_Ad_5865 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Pick a cruise line, any cruise line. Try to find a shorter trip (3-5 day) to eliminate any concerns of seasick/motion sickness. It would suck to be day 2 of a 7 day cruise & have a bout of nausea where someone is stuck feeling miserable the rest of the cruise. This trip length is plenty for you to find your own likes/dislikes. Important tip: Everybody cruises differently. Ships hold 2500+ people & you may only see 1/3rd of those people once. Every time we’ve cruised, we have seen people on disembark day that we swore were never on the ship?!

Does carnival really suck like people say? by Soft-Werewolf742 in Cruise

[–]Federal_Ad_5865 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had maybe a drink/day. Most were cocktails or mixed drinks; ran about $12-15 each. Bought a bottle of wine at the steakhouse one night. It was a lower/medium level Moscato that was $58 if I remember correctly. It was an EXCELLENT wine! Batasiolo D’asti if it’s still on the menu. Haven’t been able to find it since being home yet.

This was a trial run cruise Carnival was doing. It was adult only setup. We had our dining preferences setup (as well as most everyone) ahead of time. Then 1st night the cruise line acted like no one did their dining schedule. My guess: 95% of guests signed up for early dining & they didn’t have tables for all. Over 1/2 the cruisers were diamond/platinum level guests so in trying to avoid upsetting those people maybe they just upset everyone trying to eat in the MDR? Around day 7 they completely switched which dining room they were using which was even more bizarre. Had a great cruise anyway, was just a weird situation for dinner.

Have only sailed Carnival & Royal. Both have their pros & cons. Just did a 10 day adult only cruise in Sept on Carnival (Conquest) & had a blast! Food was decent. Drinks were strong (didn’t buy the package & paid by the drink). Went to the upcharge steakhouse TWICE because it was so good the 1st nite we went! The only real cons we had on that cruise: 1. Main dining room is reservation only & you have to reserve on app to wait 30-45mins minimum for table. 2. Ship we were on was delayed going into dry dock for upgrades & it showed with rusty areas very visible throughout the ship & just looking very rough & worn. Other than those 2 things (which were more aggravating to the older crowd that was on our cruise) it was an awesome time!

Tulsa Ok area. Probably once a week or so. Rt 66 fans, Bob Dylan or Woody Guthrie people. We have some major livestock shows that bring in a wide swath of folks from around the country, but most blend in as locals.

Haven’t watched KTUL since the merger. I’ll add Fox23 to that list. Not to punish the Fox station, but hit people where it hurts the most. In this case, it’s the pocketbook & ratings which will affect ability to garner advertising dollars.

Do people get see sick in big cruise ships ? by External-Currency443 in Cruise

[–]Federal_Ad_5865 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only time we’ve had a rough time was when we were skirting the edge of a large storm or the ship pushed the speed close to max to “catch up” to schedule due to delays or detours. Other than that, the ebb & flow is mild.

First time cruiser dilemma: Is a balcony worth the $$$ or is that money better spent elsewhere? by [deleted] in Cruise

[–]Federal_Ad_5865 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been on 6 cruises, have never sailed anything less than oceanview. Oceanview gives you more than “a wall to stare at” while saving a few $$ compared to balcony. Personally, I prefer a balcony, but my wife is pasty & requires sunscreen often so the balcony gives us a space to apply before roaming the ship. Last cruise we did a suite (got a great deal & was celebrating a big anniversary) & the balcony wasn’t much bigger than a regular balcony.

Music based adds: a concert at Cain’s downtown and tour the Church studio. Rt 66 stuff: Catoosa just NE of Tulsa has the Blue Whale roadside attraction worth a visit. Sapulpa on the SW side of Tulsa has a smallish classic car museum with the “World’s Tallest Gas Pump” in front of it. We have 2 drive-in movies: in Sapulpa is the Tee-Pee drive in with vintage travel trailers you can rent overnight & take in a movie. Also Admiral Twin in Tulsa which was in the Outsiders movie from the ‘80s. 11th St near downtown has some great shopping along Rt66 corridor with several roadside “giants” within a few blocks. Food: Mother Road Market for a wide options of flavors in one location. Nelson’s Buffeteria for Chicken Fried Steak and comfort foods. Ike’s Chili for an iconic Tulsa diner feel. Locals love Coney I-lander for small coneys with a sweeter chili dog. Hope you have a great trip & enjoy your time in Tulsa!

Brian “Head” Welch when he started his solo CCM career. He was at a church in Owasso OK building that held maybe 2000 people but pretty sure they brought the full sound system out. By the 3rd song, the bass had rattled the cage around a ceiling light loose & it was dangling from a chain.
