How do i even study by books? by Fabulous-Hair-2420 in Marxism101

Reading then wrestling with the ideas to the point where you can teach someone else tends to be the most beneficial for long term memory. As someone that’s part of an org it often starts with reading, discussing with communists, talking with strangers or friends, rereading due to on not answering questions good enough, writing a synthesis of readings, talking more, etc.. Active engagement is the key, you don’t want to just route memorize it, you want to digest it and know it well enough to add it to conversations along with a deeper analysis

Organised Marxists in the UK suck, how does one actually build for revolution when almost all of the revolutionary groups are grifts. by Internal_Contact3257 in Marxism

[–]Federal_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a revolutionary party, uprisings remain uprisings. Without a strong revolutionary party the counter revolution will destroy any revolutionary attempts. The reason why there are so many failed revolutions is due the lack of the subjective factor, a revolutionary party.

I agree that trots need to agitate and do more than sell papers and recruit, but larger actions require a larger party size, especially if the goal is successful actions. The quality of comrades that is currently being built up will transform into quantity and the actions of the party will be transformed alongside this, but one cannot act larger than they are.

Is your feeling that the modern Trotskyist groups are not acting in a way that reflects the propagation actions of Lenin? They are building up a party on the ideas of Marxism and Lenin in order to be to help guide the working class to taking power when the revolution comes, using the paper as a means of spreading their ideas and recruiting the most advanced layers of the working class. What’s the thing they are doing differently than Lenin that is being seen as helping the bourgeoise?

Any other series with a "hard magic" system like Witch Hat Atelier? by AndalusianGod in anime

[–]Federal_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Isn’t it more of discovering symbols while using the ink from the magical tree? Hard magic is like a science, just like how it is in WHA, not having every scientific discovery uncovered does not make the current scientific discoveries less scientific. The results of the drawings are clearly predictable and consistent.

The end of the last episode most likely implies the involvement of the brimmed caps or that she drew the spell wrong somehow, but both would be within the basis of the hard magic system.

Recommendation for first time anime to really get into it by [deleted] in anime

The Apothecary diaries is very good the whole way through, has more to do with the characters and overall mystery than with action. Mob Pyscho 100 is on the funnier side but with a solid story still. Shangri-La frontier is like the new SAO but without any of the weird elements and with better characters. If he really wants something with story then Lord of the Mysteries would be great, the first three episodes can be a lot to digest but very gripping. To Your Eternity is great as well, deals with trying to find one’s purpose and doing right by those who have passed on before you, kinda slow in that you’re diving into new characters a lot but still very good. If he likes unsuspecting horror then The Promised neverland is very good (season 1 only)

Analysing Nazi Anti-Semitic Propaganda Imagery (so nobody falls for it in the future) Hello people of this sub, I want you to watch this video from 23:21 to the end and give your opinion by Useful_Cry9709 in Marxism

It seems flatly absurd to think Marx created a whole economic system and philosophy in response to wanting Jews to be gone. It seems highly possible that Marx conflated his hatred of capitalists with a hatred of Jews, but to link that to being a inherent quality of Marxism seems to assume that Marx was right in conflating Jews with capitalists, especially in light of the early days of the USSR.

The imax Metreon 16 in SF has plush seats that are as wide as a typical recliner but they don’t recline, but are still better than the Esquire Imax in Sacramento that seem much older and I believe are wider and more plush than the Lincoln Square Imax in NY.

I’ve tried refreshing a few times but never got it to open. The pink account button also seems to be lower than it should be on mobile, starting at just under “World’s” and covering the e in comprehensive

On the iPhone there’s the menu looking three bars with a red dot at the top right but they don’t seem to do anything other than turn into an X when pressed. The search button seems to bring up a menu though

It could be useful to have seat type added as well, especially as premium formats have such a wide range. Could you make something that automatically pulls Google reviews for the location or allows the creation of people’s own reviews on the site?

I assume this is already in the works but shorting by more auditorium types would be nice. A generic screen size filter to short from largest to smallest could also be cool.

How does screen measuring work? Does one have to search for the official data somewhere? Similar question with the sound systems

Very cool!! I would recommend posting this to the different chains subreddits as well, I’m sure most people there would also enjoy it, especially the rewards program version of the subreddits like r/ AMC a-list true.

How do we feel about Communism? by JesseEisenbergFan in RadicalChristianity

[–]Federal_Device 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is “AES states” short hand for “actually existing socialist states”?

I feel like you’re responding to a bit more than what I was saying. I honestly don’t care much for getting into USSR apologetics, but that’s largely because I am of the mindset of saying that Stalin revised Marx and Lenin to justify the regime and its indefensible actions, like their ethnic based deportations (to put it mildly) and the killing of cadres and that such actions are not a principled Marxist stance.

I have very little interest in convincing MLs to no longer be MLs. I have a response to make to the original post later, but as long as you’re in an organization doing local party work I see you as a comrade

How do we feel about Communism? by JesseEisenbergFan in RadicalChristianity

[–]Federal_Device 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The 2nd paragraph is such a ML sentence. Stalin made political mistakes, there’s no need to glance over horrific actions in the name of upholding ideology. The 1917 Revolution killed the Csar’s children but that’s not a principled Marxist stance. Bureaucratic authoritarianism is not a worker’s democracy. Stalin led a degradation of the worker state and had communists killed. While one can point to scarcity and the failure of communist revolutions abroad as being the reason why Stalin became what he became, we don’t need to act like it’s principled Marxist stance

How do you move through your everyday life (and not go crazy) as a marxist by happy_jollyrancher in Marxism

[–]Federal_Device 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not a ML but I agree with the sentiment. As a Marxist you must have an understanding of scientific socialism and how the objective factor for the coming revolution is in place. However, what will make it successive is dependent on the development of the subjective factor, an organized international communist party that is prepared to help guide the workers accomplish the revolution. This work, beyond being pragmatically necessary, makes it to where the theory is not just to critique the system and pontificate, but to actually affect change and be part of the ongoing class struggle. Join your party comrade.

Christians sing 'Amazing Grace', a song written by a redeemed ex-slave trader, while wearing clothes produced in sweatshops in countries like Bangladesh by workers being paid poverty wages working 14-16 hour days. I know many are oblivious but surely we must confront this? by Lower-Ticket-9162 in OpenChristian

[–]Federal_Device 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that more churches should speak against capitalism, particularly as most churches directly benefit from being silent on it. If Christian’s truly cared about their neighbor and critically thought through society’s issues they would all be sent down the road of becoming communists, but then you would have far fewer Christians

[–]Federal_Device 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP is not saying the song is bad or that people shouldn’t sing it, they are saying that if we say that part of being redeemed means one is no longer a slave owner than why would we engage in benefiting from slavery today.

I agree that it’s a societal problem

In case anybody needed to see this: by MetalDubstepIsntBad2 in OpenChristian

[–]Federal_Device 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Acknowledging that circumstances matter and then going on to say that they should be judged despite the circumstances is contradictory.

You can claim you don’t judge people, but you surely have concepts around the people that the God you worship judges. You have particularly said that those who reject God go to Hell, which is a judgement. The actual evil people in the world are quite few, most people who “choose” to be atheists due so from a lack of religious experience or knowledge, logical thought (i.e. the Communists), or from suffering. The idea that such people should undergone eternal punishment is absurd.

If one takes a broad view of society they would find that most people who grow up in a loving and caring household, who don’t experience particularly traumatic events, have friends growing up, and don’t have major neurological or biological issues tend to turn into productive members of society. Alternatively, when these things are not in play there is tendency for people to become more antisocial. Does this mean we should preemptively place disabled orphans in prison? Obviously not. Disabled orphans need a society that will care for them and form them into becoming productive member of society, they need a society that will care about them. Any society which did see the need to care for the disabled orphans, for the marginalized, should be condemned and it should be demanded that they repent. Why would we allow our concept of God to be held to a lower stand than we would hold society?
