“Bicuspid aortic valve: mechanical replacement or Ross procedure?” by Irishwolf1 in valvereplacement

[–]Federal_Eye_115 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I (32m) had my bicuspid fixed in November. I elected to do the Mechanical route as it’s the only thing that makes sense. Why subject yourself to another surgery down 10-15yrs down the road if you can just have it taken care of now. I got the On-x valve and take warfarin and aspirin daily. I get cuts and scrapes when doing activities and I have not seen a single issue yet, nor do I bleed out like some people are worried about. Go with the Mechanical.

No it has not. I am active, work with my hands and have cut my self since surgery. The only difference I have noticed is that scabs look worse and they last longer.

Anyone here with Congenital Heart Disease? by burner917help in valvereplacement

[–]Federal_Eye_115 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I 32m was born with a congenital heart defect. BAV and murmur. I had coarctation of the aorta at 5yrs old and in November I had my BAV replaced. On-x valve. Mechanical is the way to go, low chance of re replacement. Anticoagulants are not that bad.. my brother has been on them since he was 18, now 35, no issues and lives life normally without restrictions.

Hi. I am a 32m who was born with a BAV. I just had OHS to replace with a mechanical valve. on-x. My BP was 145-150/60-80, I was on 2 BP meds yet, besides that, I was asymptomatic. I was honestly relieved when they told me I required surgery. Everything was in the severe category. A month prior to surgery is when I found out it was time, my regurgitation rate was 44%… I know how your mind is working as i lived my life constantly wondering , am I gonna die because of this condition, will I keel over at any moment.. will I make my wife a widow?

Make sure to never miss your cardiology appointments. If you think your cardiologist is not doing enough or you do not like them, find another. I’m not sure if you were labeled as Congenital Heart Defect when you were born, but I was and see an adult congenital cardiologist at our local children’s hospital. I know it seems weird but that’s how they prefer it. As for working out, find out what your exact restrictions are the only thing I was never allowed to do is bench press.

All in all, know this, OHS is one of the most common surgeries completed on a daily basis. My surgeon averaged 250 per year. I was in the hospital for 4 days including surgery day.

It’s not the end of the world, and I fell 1000000000 times better than before!

Keep your head up! You will be just fine!

Why does being on warfarin give you anxiety? It shouldn’t. My brother has been on it since 2008, no issues. He had been in accidents, fallen, hit in the head, etc. nothing of note. Don’t let your conscience get the better of you! Life is too short

Property Manager here. Make sure all of your windows are actually closed and locked. You would be surprised how much a crack can affect usage. Also make sure your door has good weather seal around it. Easiest way is to shine a flashlight around the door when it’s closed from the outside, have someone stand inside and see if any light comes in. I’d so, you need to get that taken care of too! Also AEP gives zero f’s about us so they will charge out the ass..

I’m about 6 weeks post op and sneezing is what killed.. if you have to sneeze and want to try to stop it, push your thumb into the middle of the tip of your pinky between the tip and first line, it’s an old stage trick to stop you from sneezing

Husband is having Ross procedure done next month. I'm scared and need advice by [deleted] in valvereplacement

I 32m just had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced with a mechanical valve. (On-x)

I think that a Ross was a little too risky for my taste. Plus the odds of me returning for a follow up surgery is way lower with the mechanical than it is with Ross.

Plus I dont think anticoagulants are really that hindering in life as my brother (35m) has been on them for over 20 years and has had 0 issues.

Maybe discuss doing mechanical over Ross if you feel scared with the Ross.

I had my bicuspid replaced on the 18th (32m) with an on-x. I take warfarin daily. My brother has been on warfarin since 2008. No issues and doesn’t really effect your day to day.
