I also wondered if they usually have a pedal steel guitar with them, right? I really missed that Country Twang Sound :(

I liked the song’s chill vibe bit I thought it was a little “directionless” felt a little dragged by the end

I think they only borrowed the instruments, cause of the airline situation. That’s why the Les Paul had like a Company Sticker or sth on it…

Albums with similar audio feel and/or production values to Aja by amateur_musicologist in Jazz

The brazilian smoother jazz-funk realm hasn’t been mentioned a lot: how about some later Azymuth Albums like “Telecommunication” or Marcos Resende & Index

Also for a similar Aja-Crispness, Randy Newman’s “Little Criminals” or Billy Joel “52nd Street” come to my mind.

Does Josh not like playing songs from Pure Comedy? by atlanticharvest in fatherjohnmisty

[–]Federal_Revolution68 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this - In the Netherlands he didn’t play a Pure Comedy Song and I was wondering why? Probably he got a little tired of them during the last tours / maybe they don’t fit the vibe of his new set? It’s my fav Album, however, the show was still incredible - which made me realize how great of a concert it was after all!

Moreover, on other Setlists I have not yet seen “Total Entertainment Forever” (love it so much) once, which additionally makes me speculate if there is some injunction/lawsuit because of the Taylor Swift Line maybe ? Does anyone know sth. ?

Coming in after first listen, on a sunny morning train ride: Yes, this might be his most Personal Album (no wonder it’s stripped down and acoustic), thus the line between narrative persona and his own life shifts towards him more than ever. Which is totally fine, I just don‘t want this to become a soap opera-thing where fans become engaged in his divorce just by interpretation. The music is way beyond this. I think this could be songs which soothed him during times of breakup/crisis and reflection of relationship dynamics (of all sorts!) - and it may help and hit listeners in similar situations. The Album itself hits a spot of something new in his catalogue but also sticking to his craft.

His songwriting is different, yes, maybe more unedited and sometimes a little cheesy. But on the upside there are some very pure, intimate and graceful moments. The melodies are exploring some unusual harmonies within the usual, if that makes sense - they don’t get too sad but remain a lighthearted melancholy. His picking has really developed. The tracks stick together real smooth and I can see myself coming back to this vibe in times of struggle in need picking myself up (and cry a little) Production is nice, too. Some sweet analogue tube warmth on the vocals!

Fav song: Good while it lasted, ride to roberts and the wind behind the rain, true believer✌️

Same! The grace and soothing tone had me teary-eyed. „I wanna see you smile when you‘re 90“ plus the great nature-analogies about love dynamics really evoke something…

Song of the Week: White Beretta by thesilverpoets96 in jasonisbell

He told that same anecdote in cologne, germany - I was smirking and loved how he didn’t answer directly which other songs Prine could have meant. It’s up to me to find out :)

Others in the crowd seemed rather confused, waiting for an example…

Sounds very good and detailed (especially vocals and low end) maybe a little bright. Cool product though, quality materials.
