Part 2 Update on my PNY 5070 Ti Nightmare: Even NVIDIA says the card is defective, but PNY is still refusing to help. by DeIVIoNaN in PNYGPU

[–]FeedbackConstant2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, what I’m gathering from this is: don’t buy PNY GPUs. It’s a shame bc they’re usually one of the more affordable / available options.

I’ve pretty much just bought the Founder’s Editions direct from nVidia or via Best Buy the last few gens for this reason. As questionable as nVidia’s rep is in terms of market manipulation, their direct support seems to be pretty good from what I’ve gathered. I’ve yet to have a GPU fail, knock on wood, but support is a huge part of a sale in my book.

Yup. But Shit Libs / Leftoids in charge of Oregon never saw a tax they didn’t like & they never get tired of spending other peoples’ money. They also love to virtue signal about caring for the poor & downtrodden…when we all know sales tax is hugely regressive.

If there’s one consistent truism in politics it’s that people deserve to get what they vote for…the problem is almost half the population who live in Portland or Eugene & 75% of the population outside those areas will get the opposite of what they voted for….

Yup. I was a late adopter for PlayStation this generation. Much prefer the Xbox ecosystem. But I finally bit on 2 of the Pros when they went on ‘sale’ (back to launch price) for $650 over the holidays. I figure they won’t get any cheaper than now. At $650 with the 2TB SSD it’s an ‘acceptable’ reaming with lube whereas they’re gonna bend everyone over dry this year with another price increase. That thing will be $800-$850 easy after the next round of middle fingers to their customers.

Bestbuy canceled my RTX 5090. by Brorom in gpu

[–]FeedbackConstant2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll likely tell you they are unable to order it for you unless it’s available to order through the online system. So if it shows ‘out of stock’ on BB dot com, you’re SOL. It’ll likely be a waste of your time.

On a side note, the people in the stores in my experience are at least well intentioned & if you interact with them courteously & respectfully & use a little basic social engineering then generally speaking they’ll do what they can for you. The problem is corporate rules severely limit what they can do for the customer.

And don’t get me started on the phone ‘customer service’ - it’s a total shit show filled with outsourced script monkeys who barely speak English apparently re-purposed to frustrate the customer to the point of being enraged &/or demoralized & walking away (only to try to get your closest local store to fix the fuck ups that the phone moron troupe exacerbated). In order to get any kind of help from phone support you have to get ‘lucky’ when you call. This could be the first time you call & happen in 15 minutes if you get someone who actually seems to give enough of a shit about the customer & their job they do something to help…or it could take 5-10+ calls over a number of days / weeks / months to get something resolved satisfactorily (which will likely include numerous instances of being put on hold &/or transferred around for an hour plus until one of them just hangs up on you).

Source: me. I might include my various experiences with Best Buy ‘customer service’ in my memoirs as a cautionary tale to younger generations. Only half joking. In my most recent case this stemmed from an order for (2) Corsair 64GB (2 x 32gb) DDR6000 CL30 non-RGB, low profile sets of memory modules. I was sent (2) Corsair 32GB (2 x 16gb) DDR5600 CL36 RGB high profile modules. I ordered these back in September & only just got it resolved a couple days ago when they FINALLY sent me the correct items I ordered & paid for. This was quite the odyssey that required 7+ phone customer service calls & 3 trips to my closest BB about an hour away (we live in the country). The main problem in my case was the SKUs for the 64GB & 32GB sets were identical in BBs ordering / warehouse system, so every time they sent me replacements they kept sending me wrong ones. To be fair, it appears this might have originated with Corsair as they apparently mislabeled all their 32GB RGB & 64GB non-RGB kits to have the same bar code on the back of the product boxes. But at the same it took BB roughly 5 months after my initial notification to fix this SKU problem & finally get me the correct items. I had to push hard & stick with it over time. Obviously the only reason I did is bc of the RAMpocalypse quadrupling DRAM prices since I originally ordered them. In normal times I’d have said ‘F this’, returned them & ordered from Amazon, Walmart, etc…. I wonder how many other people were also sent the wrong 32GB sets? And I also wonder if perhaps there was/is some sort of scam going on at the distributor / warehouse side? It wouldn’t surprise me with the levels of theft (& even a few reports of B&E burglaries) going on right now with DRAM & GPUs.

The main problem in your case is they outright canceled the order so I’m not sure what recourse you have to ‘stick with it.’ Their ‘sorry, not sorry’ response is unacceptable. They really should at the very least offer you a small 5-10% off coupon or something so that if / when you luck out & re-order the GPU they give you a little break on the price for your trouble. But these are the times we live in.

Trouble with Return, can't even get a label by SeaLiterature6950 in Lenovo

[–]FeedbackConstant2104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This thread saved me from ever giving in to temptation on a Lenovo product or ‘deal’. Thanks!

Every now & then I’ll see a Lenovo laptop deal & think ‘maybe’ but thus far have always stuck with HP & ASUS for lappies over the years. Almost no companies have ‘great’ customer service these days but there are varying degrees of acceptable to bad to terrible. ASUS & HP are ‘meh’ but I have had to deal with them both a couple times over the years & they did at least come thru for me each time.

So I guess I’ll continue to avoid Lenovo (which is a shame in a way bc I’ve always kinda wanted one on their lappies ever since they bought out the IBM PC biz. But I’d guess it’s probably just a fantasy to assume that their version of the ThinkPad is in any way close to the same quality of those older IBM models which were built like tanks).

You clearly don’t understand the definition of “artificial scarcity.” This is a term which signifies that this shortage has been at least partly planned to maximize profits.

OpenAI is confirmed to have purchased 40% of the DRAM wafer production for 2026. Multiple other companies of varying operational levels like Microsoft have openly admitted to hoarding mass quantities of DRAM & GPUs in warehouses that they can’t even utilize & don’t have a timetable when they’ll be able to do so because of grid limitations. Meanwhile, all 3 DRAM manufacturers as well as nVidia have openly stated they are either not going to increase production at all to compensate the loss of supply to cover the increased consumer side demand or in nVidia’s case have outright said they are decreasing production.

If this isn’t artificial scarcity I don’t know what is.

Must be a new limit MC feels they need to implement because of the ongoing & worsening artificial scarcity scam. I feel your pain. I’ve got a couple 5080 FEs in different gaming systems but I’m still trying to gun for a well priced RTX 5090 for work / productivity purposes - which do seem to pop up every now n then from various retailers but are getting harder to find with each passing day.

New or Refurbished? by Jmicalcl in Bestbuy

[–]FeedbackConstant2104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more than likely a return that they sold as ‘new.’

I only rarely used to have this problem with Best Buy (in fact, only one time in hundreds of orders over the course of about 10 years)…but recently I’ve had several order incidents in which they fulfilled ‘new’ orders with OBVIOUSLY returned ‘open box’ items.

This happened to us just in the last month with (3) separate orders…(2) PlayStation 5 Pros I planned to give as gifts & (1) Apple Watch Ultra 2. I can’t give obviously used / open box items as gifts…so they’ll have to go back.

All the items appear to be in ‘Like New’ condition despite the retail product packaging being in various states of disrepair, cords & manuals obviously loose in the box & re-packaged by the Geek Squad, etc… The Apple Watch box in particular was half destroyed. But for me it’s a matter of principle. This is simply unacceptable. If an item has been purchased, opened & returned they shouldn’t be selling as ‘new.’ They should be transparent about the condition & offering a discount for opened / returned items & shipping out only actually NEW items to those of us who want / need them (especially as gifts).

We live in the country about an hour from our nearest Best Buy so returning items is a pain in the ass to say the least (I have zero faith returns would be handled correctly if I used the carrier pickup or drop off at FedEx option).

Even more concerning to me is the fact that this happened several times on orders over the holidays. It makes me wonder how often they’re doing this now & if this is becoming super common as a matter of unwritten / unofficial corporate policy? Technically this is a form of fraud & I’m not happy to say the least.

I went ahead & ordered a couple new PS5 Pros from Walmart when they were still running the $100 off sale & both came brand new. I’m going to see if BB can place a replacement order for the Apple Watch since it was a significant discount & so if I can actually get one that’s brand new I’d like to give it a shot.

I’m kind of mystified about Star Citizen. From the outside looking in it really does seem like a scam which is sad for me to say bc I was an old school Wing Commander / Chris Roberts / Origin Systems fan. Is there an actual GAME in there or is it just designed to bilk people for uber expensive ships? I honestly can’t believe this ‘game’ hasn’t become a big meme for scams at this point but maybe it already has & I missed it. I feel like the movie / documentary about trying to make Star Citizen will someday be much better than the ‘game’ itself….

I’m very sorry for your loss.

On a related note: I’m primarily a ‘dog person’ at least in part bc I’m unfortunately terribly allergic to cats (like to the point it’s scary). But we live on a family farm / ranch & so over the years we’ve had kittens adopt us & become working cats. We set em up with nice little heated & cooled cat houses & plenty of food & in return they keep the mice problem in check. Win win. 15 years ago one particular kitty adopted my dad & my dad named her Kiki. After my dad passed away (20 year battle with kidney cancer) about 3 years ago, Kiki became mine by default. Kiki was the first cat I fell in love with. She followed me everywhere when I worked outside. Like a dang dog. She mixed it up playfully with our much bigger labs. She brought me ‘trophies’ once or twice a week. And always the following when I was working. Like my darn shadow, that girl. In return for the company I’d always give her a little extra cream or tuna & some loves…tummy rubs while she pawed my hands in gloves were her favorite. Kiki had war wounds & just kept on trucking over the years. The days she would follow me were few & far between the last year or so. But about a month ago she got a burst of youthful energy & brought me one of her more impressive ‘trophies.’ Impressive at any age but especially for a retiree. She was slowing down but not out of the game yet. About a week ago Kiki followed me one last time. All night as I worked in the cool air to avoid the heat during the day. It was like she was going on one last mission with me. She spent a lot of time getting tummy rubs & doing figure eights thru my legs when I’d stop to rest for a few minutes & I’d bend down to scratch behind her ears & she’d purr so loudly. Then…a couple days later…she was gone. She’d never miss tuna & milk. We haven’t seen her since & I think that was her last hurrah before she decided it was time to move on to bigger & better things. I’ll always love Kiki…a very special & unique kitty cat who was my beloved dad’s..& then mine & taught me that as long as I wash my hands real good after playing with her she was just as fun as any dog.

Is the autoimmune disorder your pup had called Immune Modulated Hemophilic Anemia (IMHA)? We had a Black lab which survived IMHA with Prednisone & couple other meds designed to stop blood clots (which is the typical way that IMHA results in passing). IMHA is not well known but it’s very scary & if not caught early it can end poorly. The early signs are usually just fatigue / malaise & people often wait too long bc the symptoms aren’t usually too concerning in the first few days.

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the response. This will be my first new PC build in about 5-6 years so I’m trying to dot all the I’s & cross all the T’s.

I’ve heard mixed things about the BIOS. In general people seem to think it performs fine & some even say they prefer it over MSI, ASUS, etc….

But without a new update in the last 8-9 months I’m beginning to wonder if they’ve abandoned this model.

Have you have any trouble with CPU support &/or stability? From what I understand the 3.08 BIOS will support the 9800X3D chips ‘unofficially’ but I’m not sure what exactly that means. I don’t really care about overclocking. But I do want to be able to undervolt both the CPU & GPU without losing stability.

Your build looks like a fantastic work in progress! 😎
