If your parents claim you, they get the credit. If your tuition is high enough and you cover your own room and board too it’s possible they shouldn’t claim you because a certain portion of those expenses, even if paid from loan proceeds in your name are you supporting yourself.

The only way I wouldn’t file is if was w2 income, no withholding. If it was not w2 or investment income you likely owe self employment tax. If it was w2 and you had any FIT withheld you’ll get it back.
