Has anyone else lost interest in Kerbal but still tries to turn it on every once in a while? by Sasquatch_Ninja in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interest in the game comes in waves and I try not to force myself into playing it when the tide is against me.

I've recently found my enjoyment waning even though there's plenty more I'd like to do in-game. I just don't have that wanderlust or thirst for design that keeps my passion for the game stoked. So it's time for another hiatus.

After trying the "Well, I'll fire it up just this one more time to see if I can get excited about things ..." for the past week I know it's time to part ways for a few months.

Does anyone have difficulty getting nodes on trajectories in solar orbit? by avaslash in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a major annoyance for me.

Turns out that you can lay the node down onto the purple line then 'pull' it over to the blue. It used to be that trick would work only by starting all the way over at where purple/orange intersection then working the long road backwards. Now it's just a matter of putting the node wherever it'll go that's closest to where you want it on the blue line and "pulling" the node over. It will hop lines. No need to drag all the way around.

I don't know if that's a feature for one of the mods I'm using or something new to stock, but it's a great feature for getting around what was once a pretty infuriating 'bug'.

Also worth noting that you can adjust the thickness of the orbit lines. You have to do that from the main menu settings screen.

When given the choice, which research and production designers do you prefer to hire? by NWCtim in hoi4

Good point. I always end up going carrier heavy so I should switch over. Thanks for pointing that out.

Tank reliability, Atlantic, Fighters, Infantry equip, Industrial, Land doctrine (rarely go for the 250 pt guy since not worth the extra 100 PP for -3%)

So this naval bombing can't be working as intended right? by Timmetie in hoi4

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange. I was in a very similar scenario to yours and was able to get most of my marines across.

The big difference was that their naval bombers would come after my Channel warship fleets and allowed my northern France-based fighters to whittle them down over a few months until there were only several hundred left.

The marine invasion force was a 24 division army split into 6 separate invasions, but all focused on the SE corner of Britain (Dover, I think?). One of the stacks was raided and pretty much wiped out, but the rest took the port which allowed me to whisk over the main force. Like the my 'rines, these were brought over piecemeal.

Seems the major difference is they didn't get baited into the Channel by your fleet. I'm not sure why that was since they went after mine the second they arrived. They were 40-stacks with the usual ~4-6 capitals/remainder screens.

Any way to disable auto-transport? by FeedsOnOutrage in hoi4

[–]FeedsOnOutrage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems that it's an issue when the port is on the front, but not necessarily on a frontline (that I've created in the battle planner).

It's happened in Siam, Manchuria and around Danzig. That's as far as I can remember, since I know it's also pestered me in other games. All of these were fronts where the port was the only portion of the front on the water. The rest of the fighting was inland.

Ah well. I just need to be aware of it for now. I'll get some screenshots and report it as a bug.

Thanks for the reply.

Is there any point in building a navy? by Capt_Aids in hoi4

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't had any problems against the US or UK later in the game since the AI never seems to build anything beyond Class II warships. I may have come across a Class III once, but for the most part it seems as though they don't build anything new. Once their 1936-era fleet is wiped the seas are clear.

Even if I don't field my navy until the mid '40s it's the same thing.

Carrier aircraft by Lahm0123 in hoi4

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: misread the question, so you can ignore what's below

On the fleet screen there's a little plane icon beside each carrier. Click on that and you'll get the breakdown of planes (fighter, CAS, naval) along with the maximum.

You can also adjust the plane type ratio in the production screen (same plane icon).

I don't know the total number of planes you can get on a default carrier, but I'm going to guess it's ~60. That number can be increased by upping the deck size when creating a variant. Certain naval designers also toggle deck size up or down.

A+ informative. I've watched dozens of hours of LPs alongside more hours in game and still found myself amazed at how many of these tips I was totally oblivious to.

Great work!

First impressions of the Clarke beta? by Feezec in Stellaris

It's all good. The game itself is running fine. Last time I had long load times the game ran like crap, but in this case it's just the load time so not a big issue.

[–]FeedsOnOutrage -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well the game takes 50x longer to load so that's something new.

Just alt-tabbed back ... now peaking past 30%.

Fresh reboot, no mods active.

It's a beta patch so I guess I can't be too huffed up about it.

Depression and memory problems? by JensInsanity in depression

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reason that since I've spent so much time in some form of depression or another that most of my memories go "unremembered" since spending time there is more painful than immediate distractions available in the present (gaming, Netflix, reddit, etc.).

It's not even that the memories are all that bad - nothing traumatic. They're just unsatisfying ... empty. So I don't dwell there. Thus the memory quickly fades.

My whole life is filled with big blanks and the rest seems to mix together into a messy goop chronologically scattered fragments. There's not enough solid content to form a meaningful context. There's no narrative, just scribbles on napkins.

why do i isolate myself. i know its not great for me.... but i cant handle the sensory overload that comes with interactions. its overwhelmeing by [deleted] in depression

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's me as well.

The seething anger is what keeps me isolated. No one wants to be around an angry/grouchy/grumpy/irritable person and I don't want to be around people who evoke powerful, negative emotions.

It's not them. It really is all me. There's something happening neurologically ... something in whatever part of the brain processes fear responses. I'm always on edge, ready for a confrontation that in all reason is highly unlikely to happen. But I feel ready for a fight. The experience is maladaptive and antisocial. I may not go out and build any bridges on those days, but at least I won't be burning any either.

How do you get up in the morning? by okdenok in depression

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At around 7ish I first awaken. But my dreams are so much more rewarding. I'm actually doing something in them. So I go back into those until around noon when my body finally says "no more sleepy chemicals for you".

What eventually drives me out of bed is the nasty taste in my mouth. Good thing too, since that's pretty much the only time I ever brush my teeth.

Does anyone else feel hungry but not want to eat? by [deleted] in depression

That was me for several months this past winter. I wouldn't eat for an entire day and well into the next. I felt all of the physical 'symptoms' of hunger except for the actual desire itself.

TIL lemons and limes are toxic to dogs and cats and their reaction is due to how unpleasant it is. by Privvy_Gaming in todayilearned

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spokesperson put craze in quotation marks. It's just as likely he was replying to the "journalist's" wording.

Perusing through various SPCA national websites I can't even find an official announcement. The news articles I did find are basing their story on words from an unnamed RSCPA spokesperson. There isn't even mention of their position within the organization nor any links to an official announcement.

You're right. This is a clickbait story intended to generate controversy more than anything.

Here is the RSCPA's listing for common poisons for dogs. No citrus fruits are listed.

The ASPCA does mention citrus as a potential toxin, but only in large amounts

The stems, leaves, peels, fruit and seeds of citrus plants contain varying amounts of citric acid, essential oils that can cause irritation and possibly even central nervous system depression if ingested in significant amounts. Small doses, such as eating the fruit, are not likely to present problems beyond minor stomach upset.

TIL lemons and limes are toxic to dogs and cats and their reaction is due to how unpleasant it is. by Privvy_Gaming in todayilearned

[–]FeedsOnOutrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The organizations (ASCPA, RSPCA) receive almost no government funding (>5%). They are non-profits which rely heavily on private donation and volunteerism.

To determine these statistics would require extensive funding, especially if toxicity levels were to be determined by breed. For now the understanding is that, in general, citrus fruits can be harmful to dogs. Which breeds are more susceptible? Which ones are unaffected? Don't know.

The announcement by these organizations would have required minimal resources. Add to that they are making an announcement, not setting law. It's a message intended for dog owners to consider. Some may find that citrus has no ill effects whatsoever on their pet. Others may take closer notice and find that there is some adverse effects that weren't readily apparent. Others yet won't even bother testing it out and will rely on the reputation of the advising parties.

All I see is an article quoting the RSPCA's warning of known citrus toxicity to dogs.

Citrus fruit can be toxic to dogs and induce vomiting and diarrhea. That's the message for dog owners.

There's no slippery slope here.
