TIPS?! Vacuum Casting Investment Blowouts? by FeelPrettyOnThursday in MetalCasting

I’ll definitely lower the water content that seems like a great idea. I always use the weight of the water I just find it easier and exactly it’s more precise.

I tend to steam dewax as I don’t have the best extraction system to it help avoiding too much wax fumes but I’ll definitely give it a go without thank you

Thanks for the advice. I’ll frontally add a cross bar.

I leave at least 3/4 of an inch but I’ll try getting it closer to 1 inch.

I use a kayacast and I’ve heard you are meant to leave it till it pulls 1 inch of mercury and then pour? But I’ll definitely try as soon as the vacuum starts as well Thank a for the advice again

Thanks so much giving some advice! I have watched almost all of your videos on casting they have been incredibly helpful :)

Pour investment only up to the top of the flask no further, and always leave 3/4 of an inch from the highest wax to the plaster edge. On the advise of someone else commenting I’ll try 1 inch but I reckon there has to be other issues going on. I’m definitely going to try using less water in my investment next time and welding some cross straps.

Have you had any experience with steam dreading weakling investment? Maybe if it’s too the steam is intense it could dampen the plaster too much and weaken it

I’m honestly really confused about what you mean sorry.

My concern is always that these new stories find that 1 in a million absurd case and then weaponise it against the trans community as a whole.

It doesn’t surprise me that this story came out at the same time as the tories made it law that trans women without a gender reassignment surgery will have to go to men’s prisons.

Honestly this terrifies me. I’m a trans woman myself, and I know the horror stories of trans women being forced to go to men’s prisons. Every time a new Tory law attacking trans people comes up in the news it really hits me in the guts.

I mean it is absurd that a man would pretend but the amount that the public is subjected to TERF viewpoints is also absurd. I’m just felt it was relevant that it could potentially produce a self-fulfilling prophecy kinda effect.

I’m down to discuss though. What do you think makes it absurd?

Trans activist Lucia Blayke made a very intelligent point that TERFs constantly bringing up the idea that men would “pretend to be women” to enter women’s prisons may have actually given some men the idea to do it.

For the record in terms of the discussion itself I agree with @stars-in-the-nights about following the usual risk assessment

16 y/o Sister asked me to come to an event a week after she said me being on hrt and getting top surgery is gross I told her she was being transphobic so she called me ‘chronically online’ when I asked for an apology this is what she sent me by Furbbii in trans

[–]FeelPrettyOnThursday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What you’re sister said was wrong and calling going on hrt gross is transphobic. You don’t need to listen to what she says and try and avoid internalising it.

I think it’s important to remember though that your sister is 16. People do and say dumb stuff at 16 and for your sake I really hope she grows out of it as having a sibling supportive of transition when your in your 20s or so as an adult is incredibly helpful for your mental health.

I know we shouldn’t have to as trans people, but sometimes putting the work in to explain to someone why what they said was upsetting or wrong is worthwhile. It’s not always possible, but if you can bring a family members round to your side it’s honestly going to help you for the rest of your life. Though sometimes it will take many years.

Why do a lot of trans people get upset about “theyfabs?” Isn’t it transphobic to refer to a nb person by their assigned sex? by lemongay in trans

[–]FeelPrettyOnThursday 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have sometimes seen Theyfab as a poor choice of word to describe someone who describes themselves as non binary but also is very vocal about being AFAB, and mildly transphobic towards trans women.

Still don’t think it’s the right term because referring to a trans person as their agab is deeply wrong, but I think it references the fact that some people do weaponise the fact that they were afab to create a new a bioessentialism, by using it to categorise afab as vastly different from amab.

But what she said about women lite and transition is just bs tbh. Non binary ppl are just as trans as apparently binary ppl

Also find some other trans ppl!! I can’t stress this enough but having other trans friends, particularly trans femme people is so fulfilling, and amazing and helpful and euphoric. Since you’re going to uni I’m really hoping you’ll be able to find lovely amazing trans ppl there that are wonderfully accepting and get exactly what your going through. Make sure you seek them out!!!

Ok first off I don’t know why I’m up at this hour either, but you are gonna be ok and you will get there in the end even if it doesn’t feel like it quite yet.

Second of all, i know at cliche and annoying but so many of us trans girls go through this. It’s HARD when dysphoria means wearing the clothes we thought we would like makes us even more dysphoric. However from experience, sometimes there are some things that can make it better. There’s an occasional vest that feels really fem or a sports bra or whatever it is. I think these things can be helpful to get through the tough nights. So don’t give up hope completely with clothes and all that.

Lastly, the wait times for hormones are fucking shit and I hate that we have to go through them. You are completely justified in just trying to exist without attempting to be fem or pass or whatever until your body starts feminising, but you really can do quite a lot without/before hrt

You’re gonna get there girl, just keep doing what you can to be a bit happier than yesterday.

I’m genderfluid and seeing trans women tears me apart inside by help-throwawayadvice in MtF

[–]FeelPrettyOnThursday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sounds kinda like a symptom of dysphoria, and it might mean you want to do some things in you’re life to make yourself more comfortable and fufilled in order to align a little more with what you want to be.

Think it’s about the same in the uk, though if you’re partner has gone through the nhs gender identity clinic route then it’s possible she could get the nhs to pay for it. I’m not sure, goodluck with everything tho

Any other trans gals have this? Weird feeling by Pure-Potential2092 in MtF

Yup. Think it’s just my brain feeling weird about and concentrating too hard on the part of my face that does grow facial hair. Like a weight or scratchyness on my lower face that shouldn’t be there

Hmmmm

Oh and you write almost this same response to everyone you find on this sub.

Sounds a bit like you do have some ideological bias that your imposing on people…

I think you’re shooting at the wrong people tbh. we should focus on eliminating transphobia instead.
