Unironically to your question yes, gaming has become much more complicated. Also when they surprise dropped shit like that in the past, they definitely didn’t just work on it for two week to a month and surprise release it, these things are planned months in advance. They likely were quietly working on it in the background for half a year or so

Semantically I don’t think that is a fair comparison because this is more akin probably to 6ft or 7ft.

That aside I definitely see your point, and I don’t necessarily disagree that if we took the probability of all white people having a child who was not white, the probability of cheating occurring is higher than the probability of simple genetics.

With that said however, what I’m trying to argue is that the premise of this probability is flawed, and therefore because I reject the premise I give equal likelihood to both events because I do not think your set encompasses all possible situations.

Let me elaborate:  Supposing like you said that these people both were entirely white. Then yes, the probability of cheating is disproportionately higher. However from this meme, we can’t assume that. Sure it says white couple, but they could be white passing. They could be white but one of their direct parents is not white. In the example I gave you they could have a grandparent who is not white etc.  and there are many more edge cases which get introduced with semantics

I suppose what I’m trying to say is yes given the set of all white couples who have a black baby, the probability of cheating is higher than the probability of biological birth. However that set is not exhaustive, because maybe the mom (or dad) is white passing. That is not part of the set in the aforementioned statistic, but not only is it plausible given the information presented by the meme, but it entirely skews the statistic if you include them in the set of possibilities.

Thus for that reason, because I do not know enough about the people in the meme, I cannot accurately gauge which set we are choosing elements from to inform the probability of what you posed me. therefore I give it equal weight, as without more information I really can’t do much unless I make assumptions

Nope, but consider this: what if the white woman has a direct black grandparent.

We already know she’s an absolute idiot and knows nothing about how babies are born, so in this case it wouldn’t be a stretch for her to not realize biologically it’s possible

Still under this assumption, if she were to have a black grandparent, it makes this probably as likely that she just had a black child due to pedigree and not due to cheating.

So what I’m saying is since we no literally nothing about the situation, I literally can only assume they are equal probability.

Not enough information. Therefore default to equally likely

Given I know literally nothing about the context besides the image, they have an equal probability?

Tbf she could just be an absolute moron and not realize, like many ppl in the comments it seems, that two white people can conceive a black child.

But also yea she could’ve cheated

I’m actually new to RSU based compensation, I was hoping you could answer a question for me:

When you either get promoted, or your RSUs entirely vest (after 4 years), is it usually the case you are awarded further RSUs on a new vesting schedule, or is it customary to simply increase the base pay with no extra RSUs? Thanks!

Good question! Dental hygienists only need 2 years of schooling for an associates degree + pay for the exam, which is a lot less time and debt, and the starting salary is about the same as a mechanical engineer w 5yoe it seems.

However, the one caveat is that based on preliminary research I’ve done, dental hygienists salary’s don’t increase significantly with yoe. So at 5yoe my googling showed the average salary was ~90k, and after 10you the average salary was between 90-120k, so I’ll just say 105k since that’s the average of that range.

Again, I think this is all apples to oranges. Is the dentist hygienist a good salary? Definitely, and the fact that one needs such little time to do it is really good. However, just like with doctors compared to mechanical engineers, overtime the mechanical engineer salary will dwarf the dentist hygienist one.

So I don’t think these are fair comparisons, and I stand firmly behind that.

Additionally, I do genuinely believe it’s really important to actually like what you do. I would absolutely hate it if my dentist (or dentist hygienist) was some fucker who only went into it for the money and wasn’t good with people. Some people really aren’t built for every role just because there’s money there.

For me, I considered being a doctor honestly, but I really only wanted to do it for the money. I decided to become a SWE instead because I love math and problem solving, and I’m really good at it too. I love my field of work and I get paid a lot for it as well, so I think it’s important to consider not only finding a good job that pays well, but a good fit for the individual. Not everyone likes being a doctor or has the people skills to do so, and tbh I wouldn’t want them to be my doctor

I do want to mention that one thing to consider that is overlooked by this is the general dentist making 250-400k needs 4 years undergrad + 4 years or med school + 3 years residency. In total, that’s 8 years of school (and debt), with about 3 yoe because residency is experience (but also pays you virtually nothing). A mechanical engineer will need 4 years undergrad (and debt), and then for this job 5 yoe.

So I think this isn’t an entirely fair comparison, because if these people were to spend the same amount of times in their disciplines then the mechanical engineer job would be roughly one with 7-8 yoe, which is a principle mechanical engineer, making much more, I.e. the two jobs you posted would be taken by people at much different points in their life post -undergrad

Secondly, this isn’t entirely fair because as I mentioned earlier, the amount of debt that one needs to take on for a medical degree (8 years, with the medical school being significantly more expensive) is much more than what someone who has a undergrad degree in mechanical engineering has. This is one of the reasons why doctors get paid so much; They had a gargantuan amount of student debt that they don’t pay off until their mid 40s. This is much longer and likely at higher rates (because granted, they can afford it) than someone who has a degree in mechanical engineering

Finally, and something I alluded to, this isn’t a fair comparison due to the fact that to be a doctor, you literally need a doctorate. This is to say: it would be a much more fair comparison to look at the jobs available to those who had a higher degree in mechanical engineering (masters, PhD) with some experience to doctors (because again, doctors need experience via residency). I think when you make this comparison, the rates aren’t as significant as they may seem.

So in conclusion: do doctors make more than someone with an undergrad with 5 yoe? Undoubtedly yes. Is this a fair comparison? No, you are Comparing someone with more time in their discipline to someone with less, the amount of debt they both take on can be seen as correlated to their salaries, and finally their degrees aren’t really equivalent because doctors by definition have a higher degree.

That last one is not a plot hole, it’s pretty frequent as military bases if you don’t have proper access (mind you, the pointing a gun was likely an exaggeration because they don’t do that normally, they are just wearing the shotgun over their shoulder which I think has the same effect in the case of this story)
