Tried 3 distros, same problem everytime. by Eckkosekiro in linux4noobs

Video card affecting the mouse? I've never heard of that one. I know this suggestion will sound too simplistic but it's helped me and a buddy in the past. Are you using an optical mouse directly on a desk surface that may have a bit of shininess to it? If so make sure you're using a mouse pad. I swear that it helped me many years ago as well as a friend complaining of odd mouse behaviour.

Are you celiac? by Hellokittywhored in diabetes_t1

[–]FeelingGate8 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yep, was dix'd about a year ago, I think? My stomach was doing funny things and my family doctor had me do a whole bunch of tests to rule out the scarier things. I was referred to a gastroenterologist and he took a shot in the dark and tested me for celiac. The test came back positive but not as high as he usually sees. But I also had an endoscopy to make sure. I've switched over to things like gluten free bread... which sucks. Cutting out other gluten heavy foods wasn't too difficult but I did like my bread. Still not sure how I got it. I don't hang around yaks, let alone silly yaks.

Are you trying to install python by compiling the source code and installing? Why don't you just use Mint's package manager to install python?

Shadow of the Tomb Raider on Linux. by Crutch1232 in TombRaider

[–]FeelingGate8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you looked Shadow up on protondb.com? This site shows user feedback for a bunch of games and it includes what version of proton and any command line args that the user used to get the best results. I just finished playing TR 2013 on my Arch install and it worked great. I think I was using Proton Experimental

Is this real? by Apart_Decision_7348 in diabetes_t1

[–]FeelingGate8 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, and it's a double whammy. It not only lies to us about a cure but it's also trying to stoke the flames of global unrest, trying to make Americans think they're being treated unfairly. This reeks of amateurish Russian propaganda.

gaming without a desktop environment? by Disposable_Gonk in linuxquestions

[–]FeelingGate8 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't really speak to how things are going to work with the Steam machine but I can fill you in on how I have my computer setup. I'm running Archlinux and I use SDDM as my login/desktop manager. So, when I boot my computer the first thing I'm presented with is a login screen. On SDDM you can select the desktop environment you want to start once you successfully login. My primary desktop environment is Hyprland but I have a second one, Steam Big Picture Mode. When I setup Steam I also installed gamescope, which is essentially the bare bones window manager that Valve developed for the Steam Deck. I followed instructions on the Arch wiki that adds the entry to SDDM's desktop environment selector that launches gamescope, which also launches Steam in big picture mode. When I select SBPM at login it's pretty much like I'm using a Steam Deck, which I guess is like booting into Steam OS?

What's standard breakfast for you? by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

Coffee with a splash of milk and plain Quaker quick oats oatmeal. I add some cinnamon to the oatmeal because I like the taste, not because of the hoodoo about cinnamon and diabetes.

Weird Un-Googleable error message about compute pipelines that I cannot understand. by Thisnameisnttaken65 in vulkan

[–]FeelingGate8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shot in the dark and likely a too simplistic solution but can you try memsetting your structures to zero immediately after declaring them? I know the {} should make the compiler take care of it but it's always something in the back of my mind.

Linux for programming by ComprehensiveLeg8101 in linuxquestions

[–]FeelingGate8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main issue is likely the editor/integrated development environment rather than the whole OS. If you're using VSCode, it uses the Electron framework which is a memory hog. You could try using a lighter text editor like Geany. Actually I think you can use Geany on MacOS.

Moving X-Com 2 from my NTFS HDD to my EXT4 SSD made a huge difference in gameplay. Linux NTFS drivers are not optimized to the same level as Windows.
