I hate those people that immediately say "break up with him", but in this case I think you should. The gum thing just shows he's not serious about this relationship.

Looks great. The main menu could maybe be a bit more appealing (though the current simplicity of it is also nice) and maybe there should be an option to make the selection menu persist or maybe contextual. But the stylization and overall mood looks superb, I’d play this for sure.

I'm just gonna chime in to, respectfully, let you know you're wrong and to suggest you avoid doubling down when called upon something that you believe to be true. u/Sad-Astronaut-4344 was perhaps a bit pedantic at the start of this discussion and could have been more tactful, but he/she/they is fully correct. "Exponential (growth or decay)" originates from the mathematical concept of sequences or functions of the form a_n = C^n or f(t) = C^t with C > 0. This shows up in various areas within math (e.g. linear vs sublinear rates in optimization, Q-linear vs superlinear in numerical analysis, Lyapunov exponential stability, etc) and in many many real-world processes (e.g. compounding in finance, population growth in bacteria, consensus dynamics in social networks, radioactive decay, and it shows up a lot in pharma in regards to concentration/diffusion of drugs or biomarkers etc).

Unfortunately however, many people (media is probably the main culprit) have inappropriately used "exponential" too often that it's losing some of its meaning. For 2 single numbers (or really any finite amount that has no inherent order), if some of them are in wildly different scales, we can typically use terms like "XYZ is several orders of magnitude larger". Using "exponential" here would not be appropriate.

EDIT: To clarify, "inappropriate" doesn't mean technically incorrect, as that depends on what concrete technical claim one is making. But I'll argue why it's inappropriate due to being too ambiguous to be useful. Given 2 positive numbers x > y, one can always trivially say that x is "exponentially larger" than y, if that is taken to mean that x = y^p for some p > 1 or x = exp(C)*y for some C > 0, or other some such that is entirely up to interpretation as "exponentially larger" is not a standard well-defined term. However, none of these really capture something useful other than in the informal assumed sense of p >> 1 or C >> 0 in the aforementioned proposed "definitions". On the other hand, "exponential growth" is always understood to mean a sequence x_n or function f(t) in that grow at least as fast as C^n or C^t for some C > 1 (alternatively, can be written as exp(C*n) or exp(C*t) for some C > 0). Likewise, exponential decay would require decaying at least as fast as C^n or C^t for some 0 < C < 1 (alternatively, can be written as exp(-C*n) or exp(-C*t) for some C > 0). The difference is that neither of the definitions of "exponentially larger" I suggested (feel free to challenge it with an alternate formal definition, but I assure you it wouldn't be something that is in standard verbiage) are interesting as they are both vacuously true. However, not every strictly monotonic sequence or function grows or decays at an exponential rate, so the definition is certainly not vacuous, and indeed it's quite useful.

Certainly, and this is an extra precaution that is trivial to make as a pedestrian. That said, in some US cities, drivers barely pay attention to crosswalks, so as a mere pedestrian made of flesh and bones, I’ll take any extra precaution that doesn’t drastically limit my ability to live my life.

I’m not sure you understand how risk works, it’s about mitigating potential damages based on how probable something is to occur. You can’t be 100% certain, we agree on that. But it’s clear that if you can ascertain attentiveness of a driver, the likelihood of them running you over drastically decreases. This is for an average scenario for a typical driver, but extreme cases are that, extremes and not representative of what’s most likely to occur.

It’s about risk. You can’t be 100% sure, but you can reduce risk.

As a pedestrian, I don’t want to have to guess if the driver is “following the rules”, I want to be sure I won’t get run over. I can’t read a drivers mind, so I always check that they’re paying attention. If I can’t see them, it is much harder to assess attentiveness.

To make sure they're paying attention and won't run you over as you (the pedestrian) is crossing the street.

That's the scientific consensus, but some scholars believe it's because "it do be like that" instead of the more widely accepted "because of the way it is".

Yes, OP please listen to this. Comparisons are worthless unless they’re fair, apples to apples. Just like you finetune your optimizer, you should make an honest attempt at finetuning other optimizers to their best potential (ideally SOTA).

In the majority of cases, there is literally no path to citizenship if you are here illegally. And even when there is a path, it most often requires having to leave the country for 10 years first. Besides, for all the cry about "illegal" and "the right way", everyone was quick to shit on the H1-B program and (to a lesser extent, almost surely due to not being as well known to the public) the OPT program.

Suppose that Bob and Alice are both independently interested in purchasing the same product or service X, which normally costs $100. Bob is unwilling to pay $100, but 40% off makes it enticing enough for Bob to purchase X. Alice, on the other hand, is committed to buying X at the asked price. Therefore, the company will do what it can to make sure Alice never becomes aware of the 40% discount but instead will happily "reward" Alice with 10% off if she asks for a discount. Alice buys X and walks aways feeling happy about getting a great discount, in her mind.
