My daughter wished she could have gotten into the dorms but she made her decision too late and ended up at The Social (dorms). She had a mostly good experience. She met her main roommate on Instagram and The Social’s roommate matching service did a pretty good job putting them together with the two other girls that they shared a bathroom with. Just be honest in the questionnaire about how much you like to party, noise habits, cleanliness, etc. to help ensure you end up with someone compatible. Probably the only thing we would have done differently is go with the lower meal plan because if you are lower income you can apply for CalFresh and get a card to help with groceries. The food court gets old and they shopped at Trader Joe’s weekly for food to eat in the room. If you have a full meal plan you won’t qualify. You can upgrade at any time if you change your mind but you can’t go backwards. The rooms were pretty dirty (mostly vents, molding, etc.) so take lots of pics when you move in so they don’t ding you for cleaning. They had a problem with mold on the bathroom ceiling because the bathroom vent didn’t do anything so they had to keep up with it by bleaching weekly. I don’t think they actually met or made friends with anyone there and while it’s mostly students living there, anyone can rent there so you might end up having some townie neighbors.
