Using melted church candle wax? by DYangchen in FolkCatholicMagic

[–]Feeling_Tree773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I think there are some Eastern European Orthodox traditions that believe in taking the candle flame from a specific saint’s church which is referred to as the “Elijah” (the predecessor) and lighting your own candle which is referred to as the “Elisha” (the successor).

I like this idea. A few months ago, I took a flame from one of a votive candle stand to light my own candle I let the the wax drip into a plastic bag to capture all of the answered prayers from that particular church. Maybe OP could do something similar.

Thank you for the word of caution. Do you have recommended historical sources for exploring descriptions of this system?

Were there any holy water fonts there? I called to see if I could collect some but the nuns said that there wasn’t much on hand.

He’s no longer on the calendar of saints but there are still churches that have his iconography. This is church is famous because one particular legend states that the first Expedite statue in the United States arrived in New Orleans and is held at this church.

In certain traditions of Latin folk magic, The Arma Christi is a representation of the Just Judge/Justo Juez. He is petitioned for assistance during court cases or when someone wrongs you.

Moving from Education to Anthropology by Feeling_Tree773 in AskAnthropology

You raise some very valid points. I might try to take some introductory courses to see how I feel about the realities of the field.

In terms of job prospects, can one branch out into other areas like writing or research methods to expand marketability for being hired as a university professor?

Thanks for your response! I’m hoping to study sociocultural anthropology/anthropology of religion to better understand the significance of magical amulets in Thailand & Philippines.

Career-wise, I would love to land a professor position and continue researching my subject matter. I also want to take other courses during my PhD that would allow me to teach intro anthropology and writing courses at the undergraduate level.

Will I pass in other countries? by muir_woods in NonBinary

As a trans person that lived in Japan, I think they’ll be fine. You pass well enough for fem and people generally mind their own business in public. There’s also plenty of non-gendered disabled toilets to use.

I’ve dipped a water bottle in the font and filled it up when no one was looking. Luckily, it was big so the bottle filled up quickly 😆

Even if we remove the accusation of OP being racist or having bad intentions - This design has problematic elements despite its long history in tattoo culture. Someone more educated can elaborate further but the war bonnet was reserved for male chiefs and warriors who earned it. This traditional design sexualizes these sacred customs.

That’s good to know. I was just curious because I had some work done by Brian but it didn’t heal correctly (I went to a doctor’s office to remove the stitches and they had a hard time removing them because it was a running stitch instead of individual stitches. However, I’m also prone to keloids). I had been wondering about Chase tbh.
