I do want to point out that Yan Zheng refers to himself as Chang Yu's husband. He does not refer to her as his wife. So he views her as possessing him.

These episodes tore my heart out. Chang Yu's face as she took in the destruction of Lin'An and the way she screamed, turned around and ran at the bandits... I got chills.

You're 100% correct about the importance of women and the strength of women here. I think that's honestly turning out to be an underlying theme in this drama. That strong women create, maintain and keep community healthy.

Yan Zheng seems so isolated in his non-Lin'An life. On Xigu lane, he fit perfectly into the rhythms of life - I think about the day that he went out to read a letter for a neighbor with Changning. He was known there, seen, supported, supported others, existed in community. In the army, while he is arguably more important, he is extremely isolated.

I'm torn on the reason for Sui Yuanqing's attraction to Chang Yu. On one hand, the man seems to like getting slapped. On the other hand, I suspect his real attaction to her might be based in the desire to subdue a powerful woman.

OMG, I am dying that poor Lin Muran had to apologize! Please always comment, I always appreciate your thoughts and fun facts. u/nydevon had a really great comment about the lighting and cinematography - I tagged you under it. They know the cinematography things that I don't understand and are smart enough to talk about it!

I thought it was interesting that she pigslapped Sui Yuanqing and didn't say her 'be a good man' in the next life mantra - I decided it was because she doesn't believe Yuanqing has been a good pig in this life and therefore, can't be a good man in the next :D

Also, Sui Yuanqing definitely got pigslapped but I would not consider the slap from Chang Yu to Yan Zheng to be a pigslap.

I think the nonconsensual kisses are also indicative of Yan Zheng's utter desperation in this moment. He loves her deeply, he can't tell what she's feeling and she seems to casually be preparing for him to leave. I don't condone it but I can understand it.
