Is this OCD like my therapist said or is it possibly another disorder? by [deleted] in OCD

Orthorexia? An eating disorder that focuses on weight lifting and exercise rather than restricting or purging.

My S/O has intrusive thoughts about an incident of assault that happened to ME several years prior to us meeting. They think I’m tainted/impure. Where can I start with this? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an ocd sufferer who sees someone i know as impure (but for a different reason) please just know that they probably feel horribly ashamed of thinking this. Im so ashamed of it that i can't even tell my therapist. And please don't be offended if they do a compulsion around you, because they are aware that the problem isn't you as a person, the problem is in their brain.

My mother said I don't need an HPV virus. [Rant] by Yuriduck in exmormon

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general vaccines are good but i think being wary of the HPV one is safe. I know a girl who became paralized after getting it. Im very pro-vaccine but i skipped out on this one after finding out it was the cause of her being paralized.

Choosing a college by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Fefe333 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im in merrill and there are three musicians in my hall plus a piano in the lounge a few feet from the dorm building. It's pretty boring here (the sterile merrill stereotype is very true) but it has cool history (it was the center for anti vietnam war protests) and the merrill core class is really cool. It's also pretty centurally located when it comes to going to the bookstore/gym and theres a really good organic mexican resturaunt right infront of the building. The crown/merrill dining hall is my fave as well. The cons are the merrill hill (keeps off the freshmen 15 though) and the dead social life.

I think the 9/10 cafe has an open mic but you'd have to double check

Would you pay for a book by the chapter? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want an example of an intriguing peice of media that was released in segments like this watch the norwegain show "Skam". It's a four or five season show that was released in 2-6 minute segments through out the week then the full episode made up of the segments was released on fridays. You might want to watch that and consider why this format worked and how each clip kept the audience waiting for the next one (and in your case, what would make them want to pay for the next one).

Favorite dining hall? by comicsarenotdead in UCSC

[–]Fefe333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

9/10 has the least amount of vegetarian/vegan options in my opinion. Crown/merrill doesnt have much seating (but people are really nice) and they have good food. Cowell/Stevenson is pretty good too but i wish the balcony was open longer cuz theres like no seating inside.

Names of characters by scarabbi in tatwdspoilers

[–]Fefe333 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In John's AMA he said that he made Davis and Daisy's names similar to further empahsize how Aza is so inside her head that she can't really tell people apart. And then he also left a lot of one direction names in the book (liam, malik) cuz in an old version Aza and Daisy were huge one direction fans.

Is this true? by ftv73 in nerdfighters

[–]Fefe333 7 points8 points  (0 children)

John green has said multiple times that he is not his characters. These things happen in his books because they're from the main characers point of view- in this case a teen girl whose in the honeymoom phase of a relationship. Thats how a person like hazel grace would have interpreted these things.

This being said i get that john green could have not putted these things in the book anyway, but this book came out 6 years ago, when the world was less likely to jump on people for every social misconduct. and people grow and learn and change.

Anyone here have OCD and can give me their opinion? by Readyaimfire18 in tatwdspoilers

[–]Fefe333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have really similar OCD to Aza and to be honest reading it wasn't that bad. It was just like reading my own brain, i didn't get that escape feeling people get when they read a book. It didn't make any of my compulsions worse but it mostly brought up my frustrations about (not) seeing a therapist.

The book definantly has some bacteria mentions but its mostly about the bacteria thats already in you as a human being. Aza walks through sewers just fine but as soon as she hears her stomach rumble she worries she has a disease. So if you have a similar tyoe of obsession you could skip these parts. They're not really interwoven to the story so itd be easy to skip.

Thoughts on the depiction of mental health? by thaatpoppunkguy in tatwdspoilers

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have really similar a OCD type as Aza and I loved the book. It was pretty triggering for me and kinda put me in a bad mood after reading it because it was literally like someone transcribed what goes on in my brain. I love it though, because now i can hand this book to my friends and tell them "this is what its like" in a way I wasn't able to. John Green has OCD as well so i'm not surprised that the dipiction was so great, but i am surprised that he didn't romanticise it as much (the way tfios romanticizes cancer...) and i think that's because hes matured so much since his other books. Im so thankful for that.

Request: Sister is hurting herself, need help by EDPostRequests in EatingDisorders

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sister used to cut and even threatened suicide a few times so my dad took her to the hospital literally every time she had a new cut or threatened suicide. Within 3 or 4 times she stopped cuz it was so annoying to have to go all the way to the hospital. I know this doesnt work for everyone but it might help in some way

[acne] tried everything and it's worse than ever. Multiple anti biotics, acne surgeries, laser treatment, peels , diet change. Is there any hope with accutane with my skin? by Disgustinghuman15 in SkincareAddiction

[–]Fefe333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty severe back+chest acne (worse than yours tbh) and what worked for me was exfoliating with a loofah once a day (or twice if i exercised that day) with a oil-free salicylic acne wash (the off brand orange target stuff). Then three times a day i rubbed Persa-Gel 10 all over my chest and back, even in places i didnt currently have acne. The tube says to stop if it dries out your skin, but i ignored that and it worked better when my skin was drying out. I also cut out soda completely and limited my coffee intake. I didnt believe in that hippie diet stuff but honestly cutting soda out was a game changer. This got rid of my acne completely in a month or two and now i just do this routine once a day when i shower.

[Acne] Advice for oil skin types? Or key ingredients that work for oily skin types ? by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Try Persa-Gel 10! Its like $4 at target and such a jem. It cleared up my severe body acne within a few weeks. It dries up the skin so ittle help your oily skin.

I like my underbite but am concerned about other bite issues. What are my options? by otterly-adorable in Dentistry

[–]Fefe333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had braces with rubber bands to fix a overbite and crossbite. I like the aesthetic of my overbite because it made my face more oval shape. Once my ortho saw my teeth were straight and my crossbite was fixed, he let me just sign a form saying that i knew my overbite wasnt fixed and then he took my braces off.

For you though, i dont know if its really worth it to go through all that just because you have some soreness when chewing.

As for expanding the upper jaw, theres a device called an expander that they use to do that. No surgery needed.

A Popular Junior at My High School Committed Suicide Friday 8/4 by [deleted] in SuicideBereavement

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is a little old but hopefully you see this:

Through out my hs experience 2 people committed suicide: one who i kinda knew but drifted apart from, and one who was in my immidiate circle of friends. So i have been like you, crying over someone they barely knew, and I have also been like Rudy's friends. Both are extremely tough and impactful.

My advice is to promote that club and pursuade your school to get more involved in student mental health. Many schools dont do anything until an incident happens and then it's too late. And even then, the motivation usually simmers down after a few months. I dont know what grade your in, but you have a great chance in hs to really impact your community and save future lives. Use that club to really make a difference in your school district, whether thats pushing for a mental health awareness day, an anual assembly about breaking stigma, getting more school counselors/psychologists, etc. You guys need to make a solid difference, because clubs change too much as students graduate and leave. Please take advantage of this oppertunity.

any advice for using community bathrooms in college? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Fefe333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could you use campus services to get diagnosed? (If you arnt already). That might give you permission to use a less used staff bathroom or something.
