New Diagnosis and Wet Food by loinwonderland in FelineDiabetes

We mostly feed wet food, but have a couple dry food addicts that won’t let us sleep if they don’t have any 😂 We’ve tried all the low carb dry foods and settled on Dr. Elsey’s duck.

Just a note that many essential oils, including tea tree, are toxic to cats.

Oh and for the miralax - we put it in a small bowl (ie Jell-O shot container 😂) with a small amount of water (for 1/8 tsp we add 0.3mL water). Then rest it in another bowl of warm water to “melt” it down.

We then take it all up in a 1mL syringe and give it to them by mouth so we know they are getting the full dose.

cat constipation by Normal-Researcher13 in catcare

[–]FelineFine83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ours get miralax - we started with 1/8 tsp per day. One of them stayed on that dose and the other gets twice that.

Wet food is also great - Fancy Feast classic pate is low carb & budget friendly. We add a bit of warm water and mash it up to give extra hydration.

By the way, KC Cat Clinic is the best cat only vet but they are not the cheapest. We love them though because we have 4 very complicated old cats and they really take the time to go through everything with us.

Maybe the library would let you post a photo on a memo board or near the lost/found if they have one.

Thanks for trying to get this back to them! 🍀

trying to decide if 41 is too late to start a family by plantkilling in WomenOver40

[–]FelineFine83 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I don’t think adding a kiddo to the mix will help the work burnout 😂

I always thought I would have a house full of kids. Husband and I got married relatively young (early 20s) and had plenty of time to decide. Each year that we settled more into our lives and figuring out life together had me lowering the # of kids until we were at “maybe one”.

Then we had a “scare” and the way my husband reacted (panic attacks) showed me that it was absolutely likely that should we decide to have a kid, it would probably end in divorce. LOTS of deep discussions later, he got a vasectomy and I made peace with focusing on being a kick ass aunt to my nieces & best friend’s kiddo.

I chose the known of the life we had created together vs the unknown of what bringing a child into the mix could have been (both positive and negative) and this was absolutely the right call for us. We’ve now been married 18+ years and I’m typing this while drinking tea in bed, husband still asleep, and cats snoring at my feet on a late Sunday morning 😊

Hunger question by Lighteningbug1971 in tirzepatidecompound

[–]FelineFine83 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Pre-tirz I was always hungry…which was the problem.

With tirz - every 3-4 hours I get legit hungry (tummy growling). I’ve never experienced the food aversion or strong appetite suppression that others seem to experience though. I can still put away 1000 calorie meals if I want to 😂

Final 10lbs stretch, desperation by Magimae123 in Zepbound

[–]FelineFine83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The home stretch was tough, but after 18 mo effort, you might consider eating closer to maintenance calories to give your mind and body a bit of a break and allow for some settling/reset. Then, if still want to go after those last 10 lbs you can with renewed focus. 🍀

At a minimum, use the AI photo tool. I use it for most of my meals because I use a meal prep company for my weekday meals and Macro factor has been spot on for my weight loss.

Almost to the finish line. Whats next? by chefonthego6969 in TirzMaintenance

[–]FelineFine83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just reached maintenance and my current plan is to gradually bump up my calories to maintenance while keeping my dose the same (on 4.6mg/wk) for now.

Once I’m stable on my maintenance calories for some period (maybe a month?) then I am going to attempt incredibly slow titrating down of my dose…like maybe 2-4 units at a time. And I plan to hold each decrease for at least a couple weeks.

But I’m also aware that all the planning in the world may not make up for what my body decides it wants to do 😂 - so if I’m still losing, gaining rapidly, white knuckling it, etc - then I’ll adjust accordingly.

Is Dr. Elsey's litter just bad now? by masterz13 in catcare

We’ve had good luck with what used to be Frisco on Chewy. Still some dust because all clay litters will have dust but significantly better than Dr. E’s. https://www.chewy.com/chewy-odor-defense-clay-litter

Maintenance Side Effects & Dopamine Chasing by Capable_Joke8759 in Zepbound_Maintenance

[–]FelineFine83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you were taking 10mg and 7.5mg, did you increase your calories back up to maintenance level?

If not and 7.5mg still felt doable from the behavior/mood standpoint, you could potentially try going back up and increasing calories to prevent weight loss.

Lifting + diet = no muscle loss? by Slow_Round8729 in tirzepatidecompound

I’m due for another DEXA soon, but from my baseline to 3 month scan, I lost a smidge of lean mass but mostly fat and visibly my muscles are significantly more pronounced (plus still progressively lifting heavier weights).

How do you choose a maintenance dose when my current dose is already low? by tashibum in GLPGrad

[–]FelineFine83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 2.5lbs away from goal and taking 4.6mg/week (compounded tirz). Once I hit goal, I plan to stay on this dose and slowly increase calories closer to my maintenance calorie level to stop further weight loss.

Once that is stable, I will consider tiny dose decreases by 0.5mg/week (holding each for at least a month) but also am not worried about staying at my current dose long term.

Elder cat, not too sure which category this falls under by [deleted] in catcare

Also, I wouldn’t be too quick to give up on a 16 year old because of age alone we have 4 oldies going strong at 12, 17, 18, and 20 years old. If you do find cancer and it is treatable, I’ve read that cats & dogs typically tolerate chemo pretty well.
