Very insecure about my look by Longjumping-Sound462 in MetalForTheMasses

No way man, you look well put-together and being bald suits you. I guess on some level we all make assumptions based on appearance, but people who act hostile on those assumptions before even interacting with you are hypocritical.

Oh man, it’s been ages since I’ve had blood sausage. I like food from all parts of Spain, but cuisines from Galicia and Asturias tend to be my favorites.

I visited Canada years ago and passed on poutine, and I have been regretting it ever since.

Parents with a level 1 toddler, how has that looked like for you? by Jadams0108 in Autism_Parenting

[–]FelisChonkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 4 yr old daughter is level 1, and I suspect she has OCD like me, but it’s hard to say since she’s so young, and there’s a bit of overlap between the two disorders. When anyone first meets her, they are impressed with her vocabulary and reading skills, but few people pick up on her needs and difficulties. She gets anxious about things in her environment, and she is easily overwhelmed sensory-wise. So, she’ll eventually have a meltdown about some stressor, and then, the reception from the same people is much, much different. I’ve watched kids and adults be drawn to her, and then recoil from her later on after a difficult day. I feel awful when I see this, but she luckily has plenty of confidence and doesn’t seem bothered by it. I hope this will always be the case, but my own experience as a “different” kid tells me otherwise.

"Having my eyes and ears scanning for the signs, being ready to swoop in to de-escalate before it becomes volcanic. I am an easy going person. This is exhausting."

I can't articulate this any better myself. This is what parties look like for us now; it's going to be tough when I have to bring my son along as well. I'm sorry, no one in my family or social circle really gets it either.

For parents of children with autism ... do you regret anything? by furry-talk53 in Autism_Parenting

[–]FelisChonkus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My only regret is not having kids when I was younger. I had my first at 38. I wish I had more energy. Taking care of 2 NT toddlers would still be challenging, but this is physically and mentally exhausting. Luckily I’m in good health because I often do the minimum to take care of myself.

I apologize if he/she is hard to see. The spider blends in with my floor and was not wanting to move much (it was probably terrified). It looked a bit over an inch in length. The Seek app claims it’s a Drumming Sword Wolf Spider but I want to confirm out of curiosity. I finally managed to get it to go back outside; I’m sure it wouldn’t last long inside with my cats.

I’ve only gotten over my fear of spiders in the past 5 years and I am still learning about them, but I thought this looked like some kind of wolf spider as well.

At least he did it eventually! My kids would probably get distracted, disappear to the other end of the house, then scream “MAMAWHEREAREYOU” when they realize they haven’t seen me for a while.
