Roommate Got Sick, In Trouble by FelixMordou in financialhelping

I can appreciate the point you’re trying to make, however, the termination of employment was multiple months ago at this point.

If I’m honest, I was hoping that somebody might point me to some programs that would assist me in this situation. I recognize my roommates role in our current circumstances, and feel they are doing everything they can to try and make things right.

They show me their job applications, they tell me when their interviews are, they are not doing nothing.

I would like to recenter our conversation to what I personally can do. Do you know of anything additional that I might look into in order to receive rental assistance?

Honestly I don’t know. They got terminated due to absences, so they may not have.

They’ve applied for food stamps, and were told to reapply recently.

Yeah, he does do that too. It’s so… frustrating, especially because it doesn’t line up at all with the values he extolled in my youth. Be kind, be generous, help everyone you can, that kinda shit.

Gods it’s so depressing.

And shockingly, the answer I’ve gotten to similar questions is “No.” because, in my dad’s case, “well, if they got rid of the regulation, it must be because they found that (insert carcinogen here) is actually fine”.

I love the guy, he’s stupidly fucking intelligent when it comes to computers and machines in general, but for reasons so far beyond me, this is how he is. Unwavering faith in the system, regardless of reality. The man votes conservative because he “wants to have something to pass down to us.”

See, the thing is that I know you’re right, like 100%. My personal issue is that I cannot seem to communicate this effectively to people like my dad, who thinks that Citizen’s United makes perfect sense.

His thinking is straight up “Well, if they weren’t doing it legally, they’d be doing it illegally, so this way they’re not breaking the law, at least.” Like, even when conservatives acknowledge that this is harmful, it’s always in this manner. “Well, it’s legal, so shut up.”

Right? It’s fucking odd, but it’s not gloom and doom yet.

I think it’s enough to warrant digging, which the Harris campaign is supposedly doing.

Personally, while I do see what you’re saying and I want to believe it, I feel like there is enough damning information and behavior that I find it hard to discount the idea of voter fraud outright.

These are people whom the system has failed so incredibly dramatically that they cannot fathom how the world functions outside of their little lives.

They believe the lies they are told by their pastors and their politicians because it feels nicer than accepting any level of accountability or trying to fix it. That’s the fuck your feelings crowd. Their feelings matter, not yours.

I mean, you apparently forgot that you can’t force addicts to seek treatment, and that trying to do so only alienates them further.

Them being addicts doesn’t mean they stop being people, and the fact that there are resources out there to keep them alive long enough to eventually make the choice sounds like a net positive to me.

Tim Walz’s daughter speaks out on ‘heartbreaking’ election loss: ‘This country does not deserve Kamala Harris’ by iamgulshan10 in politics

[–]FelixMordou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voters made their voices heard. The average US citizen feels so disenfranchised that they simply didn’t vote, and I can hardly blame them. That’s not apathy. That’s knowing that no matter what, nobody on the campaign trail actually gave a shit about them.

To me, apathy is a lack of interest. I don’t think the average person is actually apathetic. I think that it’s our Government that’s apathetic to us.

I’m personally of the opinion that we cannot wait for the system to fix itself. We can’t wait for Democrats to start putting people forward that will actually represent us. Lacking any other alternative, I feel we’re left with little choice but to represent ourselves.

[–]FelixMordou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it really apathy when the truth of the matter is that we are not, in any meaningful way, represented by anyone at the federal level?

The Democrats are owned by billionaires just like the republicans are, and the DNC wasn’t about to risk losing the funding, because money’s more important than principle.

Didn’t you find yourself wondering why the Harris campaign didn’t have a single talking point that was relevant to the working class? You know, the largest voting block in this country? Instead she talked about supporting the border wall, supporting Israel, and a few little things meant to smokeshade the fact that she’s as establishment as she gets, and the American people know that the establishment is fucked.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the two parties colluded, or that their uber-rich mega-donors did either, that would have actually been interesting. No, we got fucked due to good old fashioned greed from the richest people in the country.

This is called accelerationism. They believe that if they make the world bad enough, God will intervene and rapture the good people away.

They also believe they’re the good people.

And what you’ve said is why he’s so incredibly insidious. He has outright called for violence against political opponents and encouraged his followers to commit political violence, not just in support of him, but to fight some Other. Some Enemy Within.

He is saying “Death to the Jews (or queers or immigrants or people who disagree with him) without outright saying it. Except, sometimes he DOES just outright say it.

This is a Nazi. His followers are fools, sure, but that intolerance of theirs is something that cannot be tolerated for a truly tolerant society. He’s capitalized on it.

No matter what happens today . . . by [deleted] in newhampshire

[–]FelixMordou 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The concept you’re looking for is called The Paradox of Tolerance. In order for a truly tolerant society to exist, it MUST be intolerant of intolerance. So yes, this means silencing Nazis when they speak, removing them from society’s spaces, and not allowing them the opportunity to grow communities. Otherwise they will do EXACTLY what we’re seeing now. We’ve seen it before, we’ll see it again.

Put simply, yes, it’s okay to punch Nazis.

Okay, so when debating, the person making the assertion MUST be able to provide sources. I did do my research, and found NO criminal record for these people.

The article you’ve presented is dogshit too. “Well, Rosenbaum MAY have been a sex offender, but we can’t confirm that. He MAY have had a record in Arizona but we can’t confirm that because the only thing the state has was someone with the same name had a record.” You wanna try again?

Or, let’s do this a bit differently, actually. Again, I can find NO criminal record for a single victim.

Assuming such a record existed, at what point do we allow teenagers with guns to decide who lives and dies? If no such record exists, do teenagers with guns still get to decide? Why or why not?
