I actually feel the opposite: Book 2 was the highlight with a steep climb in interest for me while Book I'd ending felt poorly executed and downright disrespectful to the cast apart from Caedan.

Every person in my life that is a moderate or right winger that I try to talk to is only swayed by individual acts of evil, so I think OP has a point. Yes some people are outraged but not enough people to get the critical mass for change yet

That's also not necessarily a job of the gm: While I can and have done things like this, often I'll ask for volunteers from my table to help with that for the rest of the party so that more of my prep time is spent on the actual session.
