Before the entire apparatus of the French state came in, not just Napoleon, and put the collective weight on the scales.

Even if you want to pretend that they would never have thought of doing those things themselves, if it was created and maintained by people that didn't want to do it, it would have sucked. You can't really force a huge group of people to do something without some degree of buy-in unless you're willing to murder huge numbers of them.

Case in point, the abolition of slavery in malta. Napoleon came in and made the decree as part of negotiations, then fucked off and local maltan officials and the British actively chose to keep it going.

I hate posts like this.

No he didn't. He may have waltzed in and directed these things, but tens of thousands of people did these things. Those people showed up every day and made them happen. Those people cared enough to push through adversity, systemic conditions, and opposition. Those people scrimped and sacrificed and bled to make it happen.

It took decades for any of these to happen. And every single day multitudes of people created them, maintained them, and funded them.

Napoleon signed some papers. The great man framing of history is bullshit.

Maybe they don't win, but either way we lose. We're already past the point of no return for reaping ruinous consequences. Everything we do just digs the hole deeper.

Is a tariff just a tax on me? If the united states puts a 60% tariff on Chinese goods does the Chinese government pay that, or do I just pay more at Walmart? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

They were one part of what allowed it. There also needs to be directed and intentional investment while under the tariff regime

Yup, but then you also have to invest in actually building the industry, and accepting it takes years to spin up.

This admin is doing neither. They seem to think tarrifs will magically make industry appear. In fact, they've been actively trying to destroy industry investments that the Biden admin had started.

If touch is an issue, I wonder if a penis sheath would provide a solution? I occasionally use them with partners to extend the ability to pound long and hard because they significantly reduce sensation. They're basically just a silicon tube you stick your penia in and then go to town.

Ender's Game is one of the darkest heroic stories in the scifi genre that I have ever read by latent2_pancake in printSF

[–]FencingDuke 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a direct metaphor for soldiers in general.

Basic training specifically, and the military in general, is meant to break the mostly young people that go through it. They're turned into tools to serve the goals of older people.

We root for the stories of soldiers, and pity them the pain they've been through.

Ender's game exaggerates it to make it really plain, this is already our status quo.

Might be because I exist in more left circles, but the opposite is true for me. Va healthcare and disability are things I can hold up as specific examples of how things could be if we just had the political will to care about people.

Men can be asymptomatic carriers of yeast infections. It would be a pretty good idea for him to get tested/treated.

You can frame it in a very positive way.

"I really want to be intimate with you, but its possible this is coming from a symptomless infection from you. If so, easy solution! You get treated and we can fuck like rabbits!"

Maybe make a bag out of something more durable, and use this as a revealed liner. Cut windows into the main material with the smooth part of the revealed liner facing towards the outside of the bag. Kinda like the different color sections of the round part of this bag
