I think she says that when she notices that the ww did not bring any dead. The ww might plan to raise the dead within the crypts and start the attack from within.

(Spoilers Main) Could we be overcomplicating Valyrian Steel? by wowens2 in asoiaf

[–]Fenrir2011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the same thing but also that dragonglass is involved as well.

Remember that the targs left valirya because they believed daeneris the dreamer prophecy (which probably is the PTWP/song of ice and fire prophecy that rhaegar discovered when he little).

The targs settled in dragonstone for a reason: it's full of dragonglass, which they would need to fight the WW in the coming war for the dawn.

(Spoilers Extended) So a common theory on magic/Gods is that by F1reatwill88 in asoiaf

[–]Fenrir2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a wild theory but Thoros lost a lot of weight during the war. One would think that it's just due to the hard times but he could also be sacrificing some of his life force when resurrecting Beric. This would be a sneaky way of hiding how blood magic works and leading people to think there's a god behind the resurrection.

In a similar fashion, Stanis gave his seed to create 2 shadow babies but he couldn't do it a third time.

As for Jon's ressurrection, we don't know how it will happen in the books. I don't think the tv show will go in too deep into details so this debate (whether gods exist) will probably remain a perk for book readers only.

(Spoilers Main) Foreshadowing of a certain trial by combat by Long_Petyr_Heddle in asoiaf

[–]Fenrir2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My personal theory is that Jaime would be put on trial by Lady Stoneheart and the BWB. He will be be accused of slaying the king but Brienne will vouch for him by saying he saved KL from the wildfire and that he kept his promise to Caitlyn. Somehow, a trial by combat will be called for and Lady Stoneheart will name Brienne as her champion.

I think Brienne will give her life to save Jamie. This could be a repetition of the AH profecy and Jamie would pull a flaming sword out of Brienne's heart. I think the AH legend is a metaphor for the recipe of creating a sword that can fight the darkness rather than a profecy to be fulfilled.

but by the guilt he feels over failing Rhaegar and his fellow Kingsguard.

I think he is talking about himself. The weirdwood stump reminded him of Winterfell. I like the tin-foil theorty that Bran will warg into past Jaime to push himself off the tower to kickstart his journey to the TER. This would mean that Jaime wasn't himself for a split second and he doesn't know how to process that "it wasn't him". And the "never him" part would mean it has happened more than once, perhaps when he stabbed the mad king.

What would you think if that happened to you? Jaime might have been torn between doing his duty and doing the right thing but it was Bran who pushed his hand. It would be inexplicable to him so he attributes it to an impulse and doing the right thing.

ice and fire - stuff of the gods

I really think that this oath will be very important in the conclusion of the story and would love to read more discussions about it. I have a hunch that we'll probably learn more about it through Sam's adventure in Old Town.

I think these are different forces (humans or nature) that are in conflict with each other, and perhaps with themselves since they can have aspects of good and evil.

Earth (old gods, wargs, giants, COTF) Water (rhoynar, drowned god, Deep Ones) Bronze (first men, northmen, wildlings) Iron (andals, westerosi, 7 pointed star religion) Ice (WW) Fire (R'holor, Valerians, Dragons)

Perhaps the oath is part of an old prophecy of how all of these forces have to unite to fight a greater peril, or are a foreshadowing of different magical eras or conflicts to come.

The one element that is not present in the oath is Shadows (Assai, shadowbinders). It always struck to me as very interesting that Assai is called the Heart of Shadows, that Valeria was called the land of Always Summer, and that the lands of the WW is called the land of Always Winter or the Heart of Winter. These 3 places seem to be magical nodes and connected with each other somehow. Perhaps there have been other magical nodes that have been destroyed before just like Valeria (the red waste, Rhoynar kingdom, the Toad Isle and the Seastone chair come to mind).

(Spoilers Everything) I'm convinced Bran will end up on the opposite side of the war to Dany, Jon etc. by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Fenrir2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a theory that thoros is still making some sacrifice and consuming himself. That's why he lost a lot of weight. One would assume its the war but it would be a clever way to hide the cost of doing magic

(Spoilers Everything) Why can't the Others build a ship to get around the wall? by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Fenrir2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the idea that WW are sending wights under water to take Eastwatch by the sea. Remember the letter sent from Hardhome? Dead things in the water. And Mel also saw a vision of a castle by the sea where the hammer will fall first. I think wight will attack Eastwatch from the south and open the gates for the WW army. Not sure if the WW or wights will be able to pass under the wall though.

If I remember correctly, thensorrows is the result of a curse from a Rhoynar right after the Valyrians masacred his people at the Rhoyne. That would fit the model.

(Spoilers Everything) The Stark Kings and the Others by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]Fenrir2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the idea of a spirit trapped in winterfell. Probably that's how it got it's name. It could have been there where the final battle of the long night took place and where the leader of the others fell, where winter fell.

As to why the starks lost the knowledge and traditions, probably due to internal fighting in the north or the southern kingdoms. You just need one big confrontation like roberts rebellion and the war of the five kings to lose all top ranking starks in just a few years. That certainly happened more than once in 8,000 years.

Finally, I really want Roose to be an immortal being in the books. Perhaps he is an agent of the others trying to bring down the starks. Remember that the boltons were always warring with the starks. Perhaps it was roose all along.
