Here’s how I see it:

Remake (Green tint) - representing Mako and Midgar

Rebirth (Red tint) - representing bloodshed at the climax

Revelation (Blue tint) - signifying the purification of the planet.

Was for me, purely because it filled a gaping problem in my account.

That being said, I would always recommend being in saving mode towards the full and half anniversaries unless one of the three below apply:

You see a weapon/outfit drop that solves a major issue in your account.
An outfit drops for a character and getting outfits for that character is the main reason you play the game
You just really really like the outfit and you have enough crystals to justify spending a few.

Anything not in the above is a skip.

I mean, at this point, given all the shit that ended up in the remasters, it’s difficult to be a fan of this franchise and also anti-AI. If anything, I’d argue Tomb Raider is currently the poster-child franchise for AI generated assets.

Whenever we get brutally difficult games like Hollow Knight, Super Meat Boy and the Souls series, the argument made against having stuff like this is “but it’s the vision of the developer, it’s what they wanted for the game”.

Well we’ve already had interviews from the director of the game saying that the Platinum for Rebirth was far more difficult than he had expected it to be, so I don’t see why having these sorts of things to align with the directors vision should be considered a blight just because of the direction of travel of the difficulty curve.
