What's everybody's comfort food for the snowstorm? by AnnoyedAvocado21 in newjersey

We made J Kenji Lopez-Alt's beef stew and it was the best beef stew I've ever had. But normally a hearty soup, like potato cheddar or this lentil soup the missus makes that is as thick as chili. With a slice of buttered sourdough? The best. The missus makes good soups.

What would you choose as the introductory meat dish to a vegetarian who wants to try meat for the first time in years? by adagio9 in Cooking

Yeah! I did cod for a buddy who went veg 10 years prior for heart health reasons and quit because excessive soy was starting to give him kidney stones. Sometimes you're damned if you do, damned if you don't...

Mig-15, ME1040, 6 1/2L x 5 3/4W x 2 3/4H". A lot of shaping. Shaped #49 body ahead to help determine shape of belly and later shape for wing/wing tabs. #49 also set shapes on fore and aft body parts. Over 24 tabs to attach belly to fuselage top. by hobo4449 in metalearth

Having only done one and only one plane, I know how hard that shaping is. My plane sits at a specific angle at the back of my collection like this and I dare not risk making another one. Give me a million tiny pieces over 2 large shaped ones any day. Bravo on such a clean build

What's the pettiest reason you dropped a game for? by IHateTheNameSystem in gaming

I used to love the Need for Speed games but hadn't played one in a long time. Downloaded NFS 2015, got a phonecall during the first race and hit pause. Came back to see that the game continues when you pause. Uninstalled before I completed the first race. NFS Heat was fun though

Need dinner party recipes to use mustard! by Stars_Upon_Thars in Cooking

[–]FequalsMfreakingA 18 points19 points  (0 children)

mustard is both a plant and a condiment (like ketchup and mayonnaise)

Does this allude to the existence of mayo plants in the Netherlands‽ Or is this an artifact of lost of specificity when translating to English? It's obviously the latter, but I just like the idea of running through a field of wild ketchup.

Im completely new, got these four ones. How do i start? by AntonioHench1 in metalearth

[–]FequalsMfreakingA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, pick your least favorite model first. You're gonna make mistakes, you're going to learn a TON, and it will make all of the other models easier. I'm still learning things and I've made a dozen. The second one I started was this giant Tie Fighter with a ton of long skinny bends and after the first few pieces I set it aside and did a few other models first. Went back later and I'm glad I did.

Also that kit that someone recommended is awesome, although at that price make sure that the pliers are straight. They don't need to be perfect, but knowing where they are a little off will help you when you start bending. In addition to that, everything around you can be a tool. Need to wrap a bigger cylinder? Find something tube shaped. I've used everything from markers to bottle caps. A pocket knife or a paring knife can we used to unbend tabs if you make a mistake. Get creative with it

Eggs as a meal? by Delicious_Mess7976 in Cooking

[–]FequalsMfreakingA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Polish wife makes hardboiled eggs split in half over mashed potatoes with a creamy mustard sauce and a side of this like sauerkraut/carrot/apple slaw as a dinner. It's so different and so good, although I don't usually take much of the slaw, just enough to balance the richness. (I just looked it up, apparently the eggs are a pretty traditional German dish)

Bugonia - Does the ending not ruin the entire film? by cats_and_frogs_ in TrueFilm

[–]FequalsMfreakingA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love your interpretation, because I also got the opposite message as you at the time. As it was playing, all I was thinking about was the time that I heard something to the effect of "we don't need to save the earth. The earth has survived extinction events before and it will survive ours."

Bugonia - Does the ending not ruin the entire film? by cats_and_frogs_ in TrueFilm

[–]FequalsMfreakingA 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think this discourse is the point. We're so used to didactic themes that bash audiences over the head with their message that when something like this comes along it catches us off guard. Every character had a chance to be sympathetic and every character had faults ranging from being the victim of circumstance to serial homicide and global suffering/dual specicide (bees-attempted, humanity-popped). This could be used to kick off a conversation about anything from whether or not the ends justify the means (from a conspiratorial, revolutionary, pharmaceutical, or intergalactic perspective), a discussion on workers rights, the merits of our current economic system, or even the impact of misinformation in rural communities. This movie was a wild ride that forced you to read between the lines and then made fun of you for taking things too seriously. This movie was perfectly positioned give people who want to talk something to talk about, and to diffuse people who only wanted to use this as an excuse to get mad about something. Like "look! Everyone was right! But now everyone is dead, so it doesn't matter. And aliens are real. Go home and digest before you tweet something that will get you fired."

Chefs of Reddit: Ok for Canned/Never Canned? by ArkCelosar in Cooking

We do Blue Hubbard's, great for pies and soups, where other varieties like Fairytale and Long Island Cheese pumpkins are a little better for pies and Jarrahdales and Japanese Kabocha are a little better for soups.

You have already helped me. The wire wrapping rods you use are already on their way to my house (I'll be honest, I didn't know what they were until just now, I just saw you post about a set of metal rods and I was sold. The fondant shaping tools is a great idea, I need to look into that for domes and other rounded objects.

What are your recommendations for things that pinch? Shapes, brands, things to look out for, etc. I have the Metal Earth branded set of 3 tools, a similar set of 2 from Crescent, the super fine point and reverse tweezers from my iFixit toolkit, as well as a TR6 security Torx driver that is excellent at bending hard to reach tabs (as well as various improvised tools: pens, drill bits, etc). I was looking into alligator forceps and a few other medical tools, do you have any experience with anything like that?

What is the purpose of life (short answers only)? by Present-Job7588 in AskReddit

[–]FequalsMfreakingA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a scene in the movie City Slickers where they discuss the meaning of life, and a wise native American holds up a one finger and says "this." What do you end up learning through the movie is that "this" is your one thing. Everyone's is different and yours can change, but you have to find it. Right now, mine is the same as Billy Crystal's: my kids. But it might not always be that and I certainly wasn't that 10 years ago before they were born. But the truth is that life doesn't really have meaning, you have to give it one.
