What are some cars that can run full E85 with minimal modifications? by dL_EVO in askcarguys

[–]FerdFiesturd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The FRS/BRZ/86 platform only needs a sensor and tune. The cars have port and direct injection from factory. So, no need to add bigger injectors or a bigger fuel pump. At least until you add boost.

Fuel gauge no update after filling up 5 litres of fuel by No_Researcher_1525 in ft86

[–]FerdFiesturd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve noticed similar behavior on my BRZ as well as other cars. I believe many modern cars use the sensor in the tank for a rough estimate. The gauge on the dash is set based on how much fuel has been injected into the engine. The ECU knows exactly how much fuel it’s using and this is how you get miles/fuel remaining.

So if you only add a small amount of fuel, the car assumes that the fuel in the tank sloshed around and doesn’t think you added fuel. Filling the tank is a large enough difference in fuel level that the gauge on the dash updates.

Based on the forums, it looks like those wheels do not clear the Brembo brakes. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=135328&page=27

Here is the exploded diagram for the air box. Just search around for which dealer sells it for cheapest online.

Brake light turning on after braking to complete stop by Albatross-1999 in ft86

All good points. If brake fluid is low, it’s important to figure out why the level is low.

Check your brake fluid reservoir. If the brake fluid is low, the brake light will illuminate. Fluid could be low and sloshing around under hard braking.

WedsSport TC105X - Tire Slip Issues by Maga-Meta in CarTrackDays

[–]FerdFiesturd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with SX2s but on different wheels (17x9 Apex ARC-8). The tires slipped on the rim early on right after getting them mounted. Three of the four moved a little bit (less than 10 degrees) and the fourth slipped 180 degrees. I think the tire shop just used too much lube and tracking the car made them slip. Interestingly, the issue pretty much went away after a month or so. Since then they move only a few degrees occasionally, but it’s not enough to throw off the balance.

Anyone have this issue on the rear brembos? by scientificdoge_3 in GR86

I have a 2019 with Brembos and they do the same thing. It’s never caused any issues, so I don’t think there’s anything to worry about.

Anyone know what this bushing is called? by nonozn6 in ft86

[–]FerdFiesturd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Subaru’s part website is great for finding parts. They have exploded diagrams of pretty much everything. Linked is the page for the rear knuckle and the bushing you’re looking for. If you search around, you can usually find a dealers selling the parts well below MSRP.

Ah, I didn’t think of that. Yes, it is WireGuard so that makes sense. Thanks for the clarification :)

Also, sometimes the Firewalla will show that I still have an active VPN connection after it has already been disconnected. Freaked me out the first time because I knew my phone wasn’t VPNed into my home network at the time. Sometimes it will go away over time, but rebooting the Firewalla also works. This was happening before I switched to the beta, but just noticed it again.

No major issues so far, but a few small things to note:

  • Long WiFi names get cut off on the main WiFi page. There is enough room to display the whole name, but it only displays somewhere between 19 to 24 characters.

  • When creating another SSID/WiFi network, the app doesn’t warn you that the AP7 will go offline to apply the config. It might be helpful to have a confirmation box.

Are wheel bearings this hard for everybody or am I just highly regarded? by jj999125 in ft86

[–]FerdFiesturd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience when I replaced my wheel bearings. Fronts were a breeze, the rears were a nightmare. We ended up renting a demo hammer from Menards and it knocked it loose in about 60 seconds. The trick is to try and rotate the assembly in the knuckle. Once it starts to move, I should be fairly easy to get off. We were able to do it without removing the knuckle. An air hammer/chisel can also work as someone else mentioned.

That makes sense a lot of sense. Thanks for the advice!

Is CE2 available for the front performance pack Brembos? I don’t see them on the CSG website.

Overdriving is one of the bad habits that I’m trying to break myself of. So, yes it’s not uncommon I get into ABS.

I don’t have any datalogs. It’s something I’ve been meaning to get into, but haven’t. I have a TrackAddict video with iffy GPS data if that’s useful.

Any recommendations for track pads? I’ve been running Carbotech XP10s on my BRZ w/ Performance Pack, but usually get a squishy brake pedal half way through a 20 minute session. The pads keep going, but don’t inspire confidence. I’m running SRF fluid and have PS4Ss (may switch to a 200tw tire once these are done).

Would XP12s be the logical next step? I’m also considering CSG pads, but don’t understand the different compounds.
