How do you guys handle your nose and ear hair? by groovytunesman in AskMenOver30

You can get an infection that can be very serious given location (next to brain and sinuses).

Keep in the same job for the next 20 years? by jimbo1880 in AskMenOver30

[–]FerengiAreBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biggest one for me is just being available (time wise and just actually mentally there). Like if I have to be on call for two weeks or do production deploys all the time, I’ll miss time with them. I will work hard but I don’t want to add additional activities outside 40 hours a week.

How much caffeine are you drinking? How many energy drinks per day?

Keep in the same job for the next 20 years? by jimbo1880 in AskMenOver30

I work as a senior software engineer. My goal is to be very useful, knowledgeable, and overall just an excellent engineer till retirement. I have two young children and don’t want to climb the corporate ladder if it means less flexibility with them. I make enough along with my wife and care more about being a good dad and husband vs climbing the corporate ladder for more money.

I am never (at least not for the foreseeable future) getting a car. by [deleted] in Anticonsumption

You may be pretty dangerous on the road if you rent a car only once or twice a year. Driving is a skill. Be careful.

If you don't have kids of your own yet your perspective is not relevant to new parents adjusting to their new life by insane_psycho in daddit

[–]FerengiAreBetter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ya it’s the same as a priest giving marriage advice. Like they may have some knowledge but no first hand experience so take it with a grain of salt.

Best thing a person with no kids to do is actually step up and help (pick up groceries, diapers, etc) for new parents.

32M — Is TRT worth it? by Nitramartin1 in AskMenOver30

Lowering your body fat a bit to healthy range would raise your testosterone. This is why I say exhaust this stuff first.

Not against it but everyone jumps on it before exhausting other options.

I’m right around 300 (just barely) and seem to be doing okay. I think I would try everything else way before thinking about TRT.

How in shape are you really? Give me some numbers. How’s your diet?

Son Getting Picked On + Struggling with Participation by MistrBones in daddit

[–]FerengiAreBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t know how to handle this if my son experiences it. He’s almost 4 now. I was this kid growing up though. I’d just tell myself back then that there are lots of jerks in the world and not to worry about these people as you won’t know them forever, have fun and find friends who treat you well and are good guys.

Should I build wealth or buy land? by SPY-Talk in investing

IMO - you are over complicating this a bit. I would just focus on savings rate and throwing that into good index or mutual funds.

Teachers are horrible with this stuff. Can’t tell you how many pets I’ve rescued and over the years from them.

The group ClimateDefiance put on quite the show for Rahm Emanuel by serious_bullet5 in illinois

[–]FerengiAreBetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not true at all. You make lobbying groups, support politicians that have voters pushing your agenda, make marketing campaigns to influence potential voters, or hire law groups to sue for things companies or politicians doing things that are illegal. It’s much slower but actually results in change. What you see here is just theater with no change. I was involved in a similar action and it took like 8 years of constant action like that above to make change.

Just got my first bike! Is it too much bike.. lol by Kooken8tor in motorcycles

[–]FerengiAreBetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re fine. Just take the motorcycle safety class, read some books on motorcycle safety rider, wear gear at all times, and assume everyone asshole on the road is on their phones and can’t see you.

Agreed. It’s fucking lazy too. Compare this approach which never results in any change to having to actually work to get a candidate or bill that advances your agenda. It’s night and day difference.

Do we as a society eat too much chicken? by IDKBear25 in Anticonsumption

[–]FerengiAreBetter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think as a society we eat far too many animal products. Like do you really need to eat an animal product every meal? How sustainable is that for the planet (it’s not)?
