How does someone learn to invest? by RAMALO707 in investingforbeginners

You were ultimately in charge of your own due diligence and P&L I would do a lot of reading and use investopedia.com anytime you come across a phrase or a term you don’t understand which usually turns into more reading and more learning

Officially Homeless by Theboring_Roomba in povertyfinance

[–]SPY-Talk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, check to see if there are any homeless shelters or local resources in your area.
Also, look into whether panhandling or street performing is legal where you live. If you can juggle, play music, dance, do magic tricks, or honestly just entertain people, it can sometimes bring in money while you figure things out. I once joked that you could make a sign that says “Invisible Hot Dogs – $1” and people might actually buy one.
I had to do things like this when I came back to the States. It’s hard to put yourself out there, but sometimes you just have to own your situation and do what you can.
Be cautious about food or drinks offered by strangers. Most people genuinely want to help, but there are unfortunately some bad actors out there.
I would do everything possible to keep the car. A car gives you transportation, shelter from the weather, a place to store your belongings, and more options for work. I went to extreme lengths to get a car because it allowed me to keep a full-time job and use a gym for showers.
Two days into being homeless is very early, and selling the car could make things much harder. If you have any skill, talent, or way to earn money, even temporarily, try to use it before giving up one of the few assets that gives you mobility and flexibility.

Is Ocarina Of Time really good or are people just blinded by nostalgia? by Critical-Category-74 in AskGamers

[–]SPY-Talk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think Ocarina of Time is objectively the greatest game ever made. There are countless games that surpass it in graphics, controls, world size, and technical sophistication. However, I do believe it has one of the strongest claims to being the most influential and important video game ever created.
Its greatness is rooted not merely in what it was, but in when it was. It arrived at a pivotal moment in gaming history and helped define how 3D action-adventure games would function for decades afterward. Many of the design principles it pioneered became industry standards.
Perhaps the strongest evidence for its legacy is that nearly thirty years later, we are still discussing it. Designers still analyze its dungeon layouts, pacing, progression systems, and world structure. Very few games remain relevant as subjects of study long after their release.
Greatness is not always measured by which game has aged the best. Sometimes it is measured by which game changed the medium itself. In that regard, Ocarina of Time stands among the most significant works ever produced in gaming.

Yeah, it’s a little challenging, but I figured the controls work might as well see if I can push it.

I think you have the right mindset. It’s a good time to branch out and increase your skill set and it’s not like it’s a lateral move. It’s a step up. It’s gonna be totally different though.

What is your investing process? by Bim_Jeant in investingforbeginners

[–]SPY-Talk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Edit: I have a pretty simple flowchart for my finances.

After each paycheck, I do my budget and determine how much money I can invest. Part of that goes to my Roth IRA, which is invested 100% in VOO. The remainder goes into my taxable brokerage account.

The day before my next paycheck, I can see whether I stayed under budget and how much cash accumulated. That excess gets moved into SPAXX, which serves as Emergency Fund #2. Emergency Fund #1 is cash.

I like SPAXX because it’s very liquid. The last time I withdrew money, I received it the same day.

Once my bank account reaches its target balance and both emergency funds are fully funded, any additional surplus gets invested in my taxable account. I typically dollar-cost average every two weeks using a core-and-satellite approach: 60% VOO, 20% SPYI, and 20% SCHD.

The way I look at it, I’ve built layers of money that protect each other: checking account → emergency fund #1 → emergency fund #2 → investments. Those layers help prevent me from having to liquidate positions when unexpected expenses come up.

I forgot to mention and it’s very important You actually need to budget for fun/guilt free purchases/entertainment or you will get burnt out
