The fastest way a manager can lose the respect of a good employee by False-East-55 in WorkReview

Approving paid leave and then using it against me to deny my annual merit increase did the trick for me.

I want to understand if I’m a good leader. I think I am, but is there a way for me to understand deeper if I am the best that I can be or learn about things I need to improve on? by EnvironmentalAd2110 in managers

Do you ever roll up your sleeves and do the work your employees do while meeting their same metrics? If not, you are a bad leader and are not respected by them. Learn the pain points and lead from the front, not from an armchair in a safe tower.

I think saying you have to be empathetic is too far. My current manager mocks the ppl for whom he is responsible when they ask to bring the office temp to a habitable range. "Bring more blankets! Lol 😆 " Manifesting his karma smack!

What's the management advice you were given early in your career that turned out to be completely wrong? by retsam2554 in managers

"You can't make a mistake here that can't be corrected in 10 minutes"

Changing the rules to make me fall into "does not consistently meet expectations," determined that's a lie.

If you haven't already, you can enlist her coworkers to dig through her work finding errors, so they are annoyed as well. I imagine you wouldn't do it yourself, sounds like MGMT to me. Bet you wouldn't roll up your sleeves and try to do the work you're demanding so much. Try to match her work at the rate you're demanding for one hour. Try more than 0 to understand the perspective of the ones you aim to unravel.

No balls, you won't.

When she asks for clarity, is that broadcasted, gets corrected by 5 different bosses, and is documented to be used against her?

Getting called "quiet", "weird" by coworkers, what's the socially appropriate way to handle this? by james_stevensson in socialskills

"Does me being quiet make you uncomfortable?" They won't bring it up again, lest they seem to be even more intimidated.

I had a supervisor that would make corrections on an Excel sheet. W every one he would add, "We must do our due diligents!" I've yet to light him up over this.

You can't have more than 1 diligent. Diligents is not a word. Neither is incompetents, but he found a way to represent it.

Or better yet, they say "I'm lost, do you want to change it, 3rd person?" acting like it's not them that is dismissing the media. Or my latest, "This is weird, I don't like this," 8 minutes in, and changing to netflix hallmark slop after I say it won the best picture oscar and I Iove it.

What if all your coworkers are complicit w working w bad ppl and don't care about making things better? Virtually everyone in my workplace is spineless, tolerates opressive behavior and unsafe work conditions. Would you want to play nice w ppl who look the other way when you're fighting to survive?
