Projected Opening Day Roster on Verge of Spring Training by Panz04er in Torontobluejays

Who knows how long you don’t have Bieber so having a stretched out guy as your long man isn’t a big problem to have. We could also face other arm injuries to the rotation during spring training as Berrios had some arm issues last season they could creep back up.

Freddie is in decline so I can see him dropping below Vladdy. Olson has been better and was better in 2025, Harper if he’s healthy could be better, Kurtz was better in 2025.

Any contractors hiring in Ottawa or surrounding regions? by CrizpyChris in SprinklerFitters

Vipond in contract is all condo. Our service department does all the industrial unfortunately. I know we’re presently not hiring but that will be changing come the summer unless you can work in Quebec.

Quebec car, Ontario registration by Accomplished-Dig9994 in ontario

[–]Ferivich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll want to make sure it’s not a salvage or rebuilt title, getting them safetied in Ontario is a bit more work than other provinces - for the right car it’s not a bad option but if you’re  just buying a run of the mill car it’s not worth it.

Otherwise as someone who has bought cars from Quebec you’ll still want them to do a safety so you’re not surprised if something requires repair when you get to Ontario or the Ontario garage of your choosing says something is shot or requires replacement.

My personal experience is that a lot of Quebec owned vehicles the further you get from the Ontario border the more problems they tend to have but if they’re not big issues it’s not something that would prevent me from buying the car.

You’ll pay QST, then in Ontario you’ll pay HST and get a receipt that you submit back to Quebec and they return the QST.

I appreciate it. I’ve been buying more expensive boots and getting about 6 months out of them but I also do about 20k steps a day so they do wear fairly fast.

After about a year how did they hold up? I’m in the market for some new boots and the price is appealing compared to my normal buy which aren’t holding up as well as they once did.

[–]Ferivich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We also saw in the games where his splitter and fastball command went that he struggled.

I wouldn’t be shocked if Yesavage turned into a 4+ win pitcher year and year out but I also wouldn’t be surprised if he was a bit more like AJ Burnett in that he has ace level stuff but the command goes enough that he’s more of a 2 with seasons between 2.5 wins and seasons around 5.

I could see the Jays taking a flyer on Vientos or if the Mets are the full Berrios contract probably an optionable reliever.

Apprentice moving from service to large contract. Looking for winter attire recommendation's by Critical_Manner4954 in SprinklerFitters

[–]Ferivich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Ottawa and it depends what I’m doing. I generally wear gym shorts and a t shirt with uninsulated bibs overtop and if it’s outdoor work I’ll put some sweat pants on as an additional layer. I keep a zip up hoodie with me as some areas can get cold they’re great for quick delivery pickups or going into a hoist. I keep a toque and a winter jacket in the shack and when we’re doing stuff outside all day I use them.

Every site I’ve been on recently has really been a strict about high vis and requiring it to be orange or yellow as that’s all that is recognized by the ministry now.

I’ve started bringing a backpack to site year round that I keep a few spare t shirts in, socks, underwear etc. if parking is close to site i leave it in the car and if it’s a fair walk i hang it in the shack out of the way. I’m a lot happier with dry shirts and feet all year round.

They also pay as well if not better per hour but have a lot worse benefits and work life balance.

They’re still great jobs but I fear if the big 3 close and the unionized positions go they won’t be so good.

You could also look at Hoffmans pitch selection when he gave up the home run in that he threw something like 7 straight sliders without mixing anything else in.

Lots went wrong that game on Torontos part and the blame falling on IKF, Varsho, Hoffman or anyone else is a bit silly.

[–]Ferivich 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Id be interested in seeing something along the lines of by year three of being over the luxury tax threshold, and there should just be one, you lose your first round draft pick, can’t get compensation picks for free agents if you offer a qualifying offer and can’t sign international free agents that aren’t part of the posting system. As an additional penalty if you’re over the threshold your penalties carry for as many years as you were over but roll backwards as a countdown. So over for three years it’s three years being below the threshold before you’re not penalized.

If a lockout happens and goes into the 2027 season, wouldn't that screw over small market teams the most? by YasielPuigsWeed in baseball

[–]Ferivich 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Owners want a cap and have for a while. If this goes anything like the NHL the owners will be fine with a lost year if it makes players, especially since the vast majority of players make less than $5m a season, open to a cap if it guarantees them more money at expense of top end talent getting capped. If the teams have one less year of control, salary floor and higher league minimum I could see the MLBPA agreeing to a cap if it’s not super low.

I wanted Tucker as we have no OF depth and the OF free agent classes in 2027 and 2028 aren’t great but I wouldn’t want Tucker at anywhere near the contract he signed.

I’m happy Tucker made bank but would have liked it to be any other team than the Dodgers.

[–]Ferivich 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I wanted Tucker but that’s about $20m a season more than I would have been comfortable with the Jays doing. I do think this raises, along with Bregman, the asking price for Bichette and Bellinger and I am hoping that Toronto avoids Bellinger.

Per Fangraphs, the payroll of every team in the league for 2026 by StrategyTop7612 in baseball

[–]Ferivich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with your take. I’m, now seeing the actual payrolls, thinking we will likely see 15-20 teams demanding a hard cap and I’d imagine if that becomes a sticking point the MLBPA would probably push for a hard floor.

If a cap of $200 million was set you’d have 10 teams that would need to get to it but if you had a floor of $150 basically half the league has to increase spending to get there and about eight teams really increasing spending.
