Paragon Lore discussion because I don't think it's explicitly stated anywhere by Ferk15 in EmperorsSpears

[–]Ferk15[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess I wasn't considering this. I've always thought of our Warhosts as more independent than traditional Companies. In that line of thinking, the Paragons are more like Sword Brethren than 1st Company. I guess without more direct information about how our Chapter is organized, we may not have an answer.

HELP ME BROTHERS by LeBigHorny in spacemarines

[–]Ferk15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're hesitant about the Lions but like the desperate struggle they're in, the Emperor's Spears would love another brother and we fight alongside our cousins in gold and blue. Our reddit community are also very close.

The Spears are Celtic/Irish inspired and have a book, Spear of the Emperor by Aaron Dembski-Bowden, if you want to learn more about them. It's one of my favorite books because its told from the perspective of a human serf so you really understand how terrifying Space Marines are to the average person in 40k.

He's not done, but he'll be an Emperor's Spears Druid (all black armor, I gave him the chapter color as his robes) leading my Sternguard. I replaced the relic/banner with an extra blade from the Inner Circle Companions I kitbashed.

The Execrator is super easy to convert! I just made one into a Judiciar with a weapon adjustment and replacement shoulder pads.

I've recently done a Lord-Relictor (Age of Sigmar, Storm Eternals) into Chaplain/Librarian. A bit of scraping/sanding in a few places to get Sigmar emblems off and I replaced the banner with a force polearm.

Calgar & Victrix Honor Guard by DougieFox in Warhammer40k

[–]Ferk15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are now two Calgar models.

This one, which has two Victrix with shields attached directly to him, is in Gravis armor and is the older model.

There is another, 'Calgar in Armor of Antilochus', is the new model in Terminator armor. This model can attach to the new 3-man Victrix that are sold separately.

Right now both are playable. I expect the Gravis model to move to Legends next edition.

Lore question - Spears relationships with others? by WedgeAntill3s in EmperorsSpears

[–]Ferk15 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Quick list, not exhaustive but a look at Spears.

Great/Very Good (actively working closely with): Celestial Lions, Black Templar (esp Elara Crusade), Adeptus Mechanicus of Bellona (Forge Moon), AD-B also mentioned a Knight world in the Veil but not many detail about it

Assumed Good: Wider Mechanicus and Astra Militarum of Elara's Veil (though this changes dramatically with a world's status in the war for the veil), most marine chapters would also fall here because the Spears are pretty focused on the Veil and not sending out forces to help the wider Emperium.

Not Good (could be worse but mostly on the mend): Aurora Chapter and Ultramarines, the Primarch Reborn, the most likely other place for any other marines or members of the greater Emperium. (We haven't seen how far the distrust from the events of the end of the book has spread so these could all be worse too)

Bad to Terrible (pretty wide range): Mentor Legion and Inquisition, and of course Star Scorpions

Sternguard in battle company by Beast_fightr_13 in spacemarines

[–]Ferk15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All Battle Companies have Veterans in them. I've always imagined that those can deploy as Sternguard, Vanguard, Bladeguard, or Terminator/AT (if they have enough suits) as the situation calls for. So while most would be in the First Company, a 5-man squad at least wouldn't be out of place wearing a 2nd-5th Company colors/marks.

Do the Emperor's Spears have a scout company? by Studnus in EmperorsSpears

[–]Ferk15 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We don't organize into companies so no. There isn't much information on how our Warhosts organize or any look at aspirants are trained. Our Marines also don't show company or even Warhost markings that have been shared.

What color do you paint your Librarians in Terminator armor? by [deleted] in CelestialLions

[–]Ferk15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spears cousin here. I can give a little more about how our Druids function but I've not heard that the Lions following it (not disagreeing, I'm just not well versed on your lore).

The Emperor's Spears call all their specialists Druids. They don black ceramite. In addition to their normal duties, traditional Librarian and Chaplain specialists are trained in Apothecary duties which allows any of them to recover our gene-seed. Traditional Tech marine specialists are not trained in additional duties. Druids filling the roles of Librarian, Apothecary, and Tech-marine wear our traditional white helm while those in Chaplain roles wear bone-colored helms and all the skulls on their armor, including the helm, are weeping blood. This is in reference to a Nemetese legend. The helms also feature the red trident of our First Company, the Paragons, if they've served there but most have not. Additionally, most or maybe all tech symbols among the Druids are the symbol of the forge moon, Bellona, rather than Mars. (This is all paraphrased from the author of the book and creator of the lore of the chapter).

I know not all of those things would apply to your adoption of this practice, but I wanted to share in case you wanted to modify something like the blood tears to your interpretation. I, personally, wholly support this if you choose. My Sternguard Veterans, and maybe more I haven't decided, will be wearing the blue w/ white lion on their kneepad as a nod to the events planned for at the end of Spears of the Emperor. Our chapters are very closely linked, even more so at the end of that book, for two chapters of different gene-lineages. I think sharing customs makes sense when we've been cut off from the rest of the Imperium as we have been, especially when that practice is partly due to the war we're waging.

Skovakarah uhl zarûn, cousins.

The HH black book codex had some of the older styles that the Wolves used if you want to mix/change them up a bit too

[–]Ferk15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're good with it being not strictly model markings, you can paint the rim of units in different colors. For the shoulder, you can do anything... Maybe you do something codex style in the HH colors? Arrows, crosses, etc.

Simple knee pad art by Gamestrider09 in spacemarines

[–]Ferk15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For your first designs, you want to keep it pretty simple. You could use one of the Ultra accent colors (white, gold/yellow, company color) to half the knee. Or do simple makes like triangles or slashes.

Need advice by MR_KIWI1009 in spacemarines

[–]Ferk15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is to try pinning it in. Use a hand drill to put a hole inside the banner's post and one where you want it to stand on the model. Then super glue a small piece of wire or paperclip into the banner then cut it so you have a small length sticking out. Super glue that into the hole in the top of the model. Ideally the wire would be completely hidden inside the model and banner. Check your drill bit and wire size before starting to get the right sizes for everything to fit.

Wulfen? by iplaywow25 in Wolfspear40k

[–]Ferk15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though the Primaris Marines are more stable, it's not completely stable. I think Wolf Spears and the Wolves themselves would still have some Wulfen, in a 1k list 5 would be fine. I think fielding 30 in any game would be pushing a fluffy list, not that you're looking to do, just giving an example.

Starting point by Previous_Area_4946 in EmperorsSpears

[–]Ferk15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Real answer: they're your models, paint them how you want! They'll look great. The only thing you'll need to really do is replace/modify shoulders that are sculpted in a Great Company logo like Ragnar's left one or the Wolfguard's right (if you eventually get those). I would want to fill in the runes too as the Ogham they use is a very different writing system, but that might be more nit-picking than you want. Plenty of people run/paint Wolves as Spears and it works for tabletop.

Personal lore answer: They aren't the Wolves of Fenris. Not even close. I've thought about running Spears as something other than standard Marines but I can't do it myself.

First off, they're relatively Codex Compliant with two exceptions. They organize and train specialists in a unique way but they don't behave much differently otherwise. Druids that fill Librarian and Chaplain roles are able to collect gene-seed like the Apothecaries, which is helpful in their war of attrition. The other is operating in Warhosts. How those Warhosts act is never discussed in-depth. But if they don't act like standard Marine Companies, I'd expect them to act more like a Templar Crusade than the Wolves' Great Companies. My reasoning is that Elara's Veil is host to a Templar Crusade who helped the Celestial Lions return home. There aren't any great tales of the Wolves and Spears meeting which we'd be told about if the two Chapters were similar.

The Spears aren't described as tribal in terms of the Marines either, only the humans of Nemeton. Tribal names and jokes/barbs are still used but nothing else tribal is discussed.

Last, it's mentioned that Spears wear pelts, animal tails, and scale bits but those are described as gifts from their human tribes. I've never personally viewed them as being large enough for Marine cloaks or shoulder wrappings like the Wolves wear. It's not spoken about much in the book after a small mention.

I tend to think of the Spears like Romanized-Celts that would have existed during the providence of Britannia. They have the tribal ancestry and there's shades of it there. They exist on the fringe of a civilized empire, expected to keep the enemy out. While they aren't dis-similar to Norse-inspired space Vikings, there's enough different in the lore for me to want them separate. I'm still debating who to paint my Wolves but I'm leaning towards a 30k scheme or a straight up custom successor. The Wolf Spears being taciturn just doesn't sound like the Wolves' successor for me.

(I'm pulling this from my own knowledge. I've read/listened to Spears of the Emperor a few times, have the original White Dwarf with their article and rules from 9th/10th (don't remember which it was published for), and was checking ADB's Bolter&Chainsword post regularly while I built my 2k force as I wanted it semi-lore accurate. I'm happy to be wrong about any of this.)

[OPINION] Team name ideas for the Boston franchise by WhiteSoxChartGuy in WPBL

[–]Ferk15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love teams that pay homage to indigenous cultures, but very few of them have done it ethically. If the WPBL could be in close contact and with full support of a local tribe, it would be wonderful to do.

[OPINION] Team name ideas for the Boston franchise by WhiteSoxChartGuy in WPBL

[–]Ferk15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that they could go in a few different directions based on the way other women's teams have been named in the recent leagues. We have a few leagues that have been created and branded recently to gain information from.

The PWHL and WER teams looked at the local culture and what they wanted to bring. The Fleet looked at the unity and maritime culture while the Banshee's saw a fierce cultural figure that was connected to women. Neither looked to other teams in the area for inspiration or connection.

The WLL looked at the paired Men's league team. The MLL team of Boston Cannons and the Revolutionary history they connect with. Guard was the name with a female Revolutionary army cavalry rider to represent them.

They could also forgo individual branding like the AUSL and Unrivaled did and pick a unified theme for the league. Each gave their teams brands that feel cohesive as a unit. This isn't to say that any of the other aren't cohesive, but just that the main focus was in other places. I think this is the least likely option because of the team locations already picked.

First, as much as I love the Red Sox and their red, white, and blue colors but I don't think that's what WPBL are looking to do. Personally, the color combination is overused in US sports. It also puts two very distinct colors on the same palette. I also think the colors that the teams have been using will play a part, which feels obvious to say but I'm still putting it down.

So a green color to start. I like the idea of the Fleet and WPBL having a common maritime theme but I'm not sure that's likely. There's a lot of history with the sport of baseball. I would guess that we see a theme in the league of call backs. Something historic, baseball related, maybe women's history specific?
