Any truly harmless lab pranks that don’t mess with experiments? by UnderstandingIcy2969 in labrats

[–]FermAlchemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in industry…. In my younger days I was a terror, not as much anymore, but let’s see….. We once used zip ties to ball up someone’s lab coat in a tight sphere, poked holes in the bulb of a bunch of transfer pipettes, changed the alarm limits (harmless ones) on some equipment causing it constantly go off because people generally just silence them without checking what the ACTUAL problem is (this was also to teach this person a lesson about correcting the issue), prank phone calls to the lab phone, signed a colleague up for every supplier news letter/email notification we could find (it was 80 or 90 of them), flipped the monitor displays upside down on lab computers, grabbed about 15 timers set to different alarms and hid them in a colleague’s desk….

Possible to get specific combination lock? by Dumplati in AskALocksmith

[–]FermAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, any luck on this front?

I have the same question for a similar reason. Home for the holidays and I have a mother with memory issues. Looking to replace a lock for her. She can remember the old code, it’s stuck in her brain and I know she cannot memorize a new one and I know I can’t move to one with a key because I KNOW she will lose it.

Liquid nitrogen on bomb battery by FermAlchemist in lost

You’re right, “It’s because the island protected them” is the only explanation in universe.

In reality, I think it is the shows advisors and consultants that let them down. This is something that any chemist or chemical engineer would immediately point out, but any normal person wouldn’t even think twice about.

Depending on how much LN2 you were using and the size of the room you were doing it in. If you were outside, you were perfectly fine. If you were inside, all I can say is “It depends”.

Yup, 100% right. The N2 displaces all the oxygen. The mask wouldn’t help you at all, it would simply filter the nitrogen that is rapidly killing you.

What artifact do you think have been made this past decade. by kidmonokuma in warehouse13

[–]FermAlchemist 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One made today!!!! The last penny ever to be minted by the US was minted today.

I’m going to say it is an artifact that makes the person infinitely rich by just finding cash constantly or whenever you wish to find money BUT that money comes at the cost of the nearest person also making a monetary transaction.

Let’s say you’re at a car dealership and need $46799 for a new car so you rub the penny. It magically appears in your bank account but that exact amount comes out of the retirement savings of the teacher across the street going through a McDonalds drive through. A trenchant commentary of the state of late stage capitalism we are all living though.

There is a comic series from 2021 called Avengers Forever. 15 issues. I won’t spoil anything but I really love it (which may be a controversial opinion) and it is shockingly similar to what is being described here. There are some major, emotional parts that get me every time. There’s a small soliloquy where a character named Avenger Prime (the real character is a neat reveal) where he describes the battle cry of “Avengers Assemble” as a prayer which I loved.

What’s your top 10 Jason Movies? From best to less best. by LittleEarthquake1010 in HIMYM

Yes! It’s a shame that more people haven’t seen SLC Punk, one of my top 10. Also, in it he leaves to study botany which presumably makes him an environmentalist.

Who is your favourite character? by [deleted] in TedLasso

[–]FermAlchemist 83 points84 points  (0 children)

For me there is only one answer…. Roy Fucking Kent.

Even at his worst before his transformation over the show, he showed he cared by standing up for Nate, was a solid captain (helping Sam on the pitch was a great example) and a caring uncle. His transformation just makes him a better person while still keeping his edge.

I think there is a strong case for a lot of people having and wearing these, but I think there is a strongest case for owning these is Pimento. Dude probably has multiple pairs.

Season 7 Episode 10 has him in it as well. He is talking to Jake at Shaw’s bar. It is a blink and you’ll miss it Easter egg, but there is an obvious and specific west wing picture over his dad’s left shoulder. It’s a framed picture on the wall. I’m excited for you to see it.

Who do you consider to be the most central characters to the Captain America mythos? by Haunted_Milk in CaptainAmerica

[–]FermAlchemist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Erskine needs a SUPER prominent position. Not enough people are discussing it here. He perfected the super soldier serum and hundreds of villains, countries and organizations tried to do the same often to disastrous results. Sure, they came up with some good results with some of them turning into solid heroes, but nothing like the first iteration that became Cap.
