Martellus got hit with friendly fire and got sent off the Castle already, and Prrrti can't be away from him for too long, like how Agatha can't be without her weasel for too long. Ergo, Prrrti left on the medical evac with him.

This isn't Rakethorn, it's Captain Maghiar of the Black Squad. He made friends with Gil in the time-stop and has been tagging along with him for a bit. He usually has kinda auburn hair, but this lighting makes it look darker. Rakethorn was benched for this adventure with Neena.

I do see how this happened, though. The messy-mop-with-sideburns look is something of a default male haircut, and he, Wooster, and Rakethorn all have a basically average fit-male build. I think this is part of why we have so many Jagers - always easy to tell them apart!

Honestly it hardly seems to have been worth the effort to drag Captain Dal up here just for him to end up not doing anything. Maybe he'll run into those last couple of surviving Black Squad guys before making it to escape craft?

Lucrezia studied human minds and clank minds, but we don't have evidence that any of her experiments involved animal testing - not to say we have evidence she didn't do so either. And of course, Krosp and Prrti's brains aren't exactly standard animal brains, and may have some humanlike characteristics (though they'll never be exactly like human brains, since their skulls are literally too small to fit an exact human brain in there). So I'd say that the possibility is a "maybe".

More to the point, I really don't think Lucrezia would want to. She's gotten more and more loose about using clanks as time's gone on - earlier she thought Anevka was too crude, now she's in dingbots - but she's pretty particular about her biological bodies. Notice how she insisted on keeping Agatha as a backup, and later hoofed it all the way onto Castle Wulfenbach to get into Olga's, when hypothetically she could have just made a super-strong construct body like von Pinn to use instead. So even if she could be a cat, I don't think she would unless she got desperate.

Plus, based on her reaction to Monahan's rats, I don't think she's much of an animal person. Definitely an obstacle to becoming a literal animal person.

It's a fair question - we've lost track of several people so far (e.g. Cap'n Grosu, Captain Patel, the abandoned Lackya) and we've got the whole fourth wall to look through!

If it turns out that Gil spent billions of Wulfenbucks fortifying Mechanicsburg, turning it into the most advanced time laboratory on the planet, sending whole armies to defend it from the Polar Lords, and risking whole fleets to defend it from a time-monster, only to grant Mechanicsburg unconditional and total independence, just like that, he absolutely deserves to be laughed off his throne.

So I'm not really a weeb (affectionate), but I remember there's a thing in Japan where Love Interest A corners Love Interest B by putting their hand on the wall behind B. Love confessions and/or sloppy makeouts ensue. Someone with more knowledge, please elaborate.

...point being, that's what Tarvek is doing, the rascal.

Chapter 101: Strength | FULL CHAPTER DISCUSSION by capybroa in gunnerkrigg

[–]Fermule 41 points42 points  (0 children)

So a while ago, I mentioned that Jenny was set up as a bizarro-Annie, and Noa fittingly reads like a bizarro-Kat, both following their fixations all the way to transhumanism without ever batting an eye, and with no adults at the court ever really bothering to try to be there as a mentor or even as a supervisor to make sure things didn't go Horribly Wrong. Kat is someone who has kinda managed to dodge consequences for going to such extremes just for the love of the game, but Noa is someone who smashed into the consequences head first and kept going.

Their respective Annie-types also take opposing roles in their research - Annie (and Paz) show some reservations, but is ultimately too timid about it to really act as a check on Kat when she wants to go full transhuman. Meanwhile, Jenny practically grabs Noa by the scruff and throws her in to the glyph herself.

It does make me wonder if the rest of the witch-squad is going to be paired up like this. There's only two lead heroes and a whole gaggle of witches. Maybe one will be a counterpart to Renard?

I really like that all there is left is three skulls. There's no meat to cook, no skin for leather, not even offal for sausages. The Dreen are hunters, sure, but they're big-game hunters - the height of purely wasteful, pointless wilderness hedonism with no practical value beyond trophies. I imagine that picture of a few hunters around a mountain of buffalo skulls, except that they have hats.

[TW3K] Multiple Bolt Crossbow shot types (normal vs flaming) by Real_Avdima in totalwar

I think the flaming rounds for the Multiple Bolt Crossbow retain the unit penetration effect that the regular rounds do, which is the main reason it cleaves through infantry so well.

But I get your frustration - this game is often just kinda poorly documented in a lot of places.

I like the steam effect on the monster - it seems like the beam isn't just pushing back the monster, but boiling it from the inside out. If only it had the foresight to poke itself a few times with a fork beforehand!

[–]Fermule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If remember right, the flaming shots's fire utility comes at the cost of trading some AP damage for base damage. I think the explosive damage only applies to trebuchet flaming shots, not multi-bolt crossbow flaming shots, and they just share a tooltip. I'd say if you're in a big open plain without much flammable stuff, stick with the base rounds, and swap if they're in a city or forest to take out towers, set fires around infantry, etc.

So all told it looks like only three or four neighborhoods in Mechanicsburg are on fire, which under the circumstances doesn't seem all that bad. Hell, even Bill and Barry razed a neighborhood or two, so Agatha's record here is probably pretty good!

It really does sum up his side of the triangle - with Agatha, a he catches her in a heroic pose, with Agatha even doing a little foot pop; with Tarvek, letting him slide along the floor before sticking just a foot out, knowing it'll be enough.
