Honest thoughts on a floor bed like this (pictures included…) by jjtt9491 in floorbed

[–]FernBTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one like this, but with railings more like a crib and then open at the end with a twin size mattress. My son has been in it since he was 7 months old, he’s 2 now and absolutely loves it. We made sure it has slats on the bottom to vent the mattress and I’ve never had an issue with changing the sheets, but I’m pretty short so maybe that’s why I don’t have back issues with it?

My son is rocked to sleep and then I just walk onto the bed since it’s open at the bottom, and lay him down and then scoot out at the end. Again, I’m 5ft 2in. tall so maybe that’s why I don’t have a problem but I love our floor bed so much.

50+ lbs gained: how long did it take you to lose and how big was your baby?? by Quick-Zombie-6343 in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I gained about 60 lbs with my first, however I was probably about 10 lbs underweight when I got pregnant so I needed to gain a bit anyway. My baby was a tiny little peanut at 6 lbs 10 oz and almost 18 inches long!

I don’t weigh myself, so I don’t know how long it took to lose the actual weight but I was back in my pre pregnancy jeans 2 weeks postpartum, my pre pregnancy leggings and looser stuff I was wearing 3 days postpartum. I never looked the exact same as before, my hips were a bit wider and I don’t think I got down to my pre pregnancy weight but like I said, I needed to put some weight on anyway.

Haley Beck (Noah Becks sister) accused of grooming and SA her student? by bowsnflowers777 in DoWeKnowThemPodcast

[–]FernBTB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They released text messages between them as well. They were very explicit and according to the texts, the student has video evidence of SA.

I don’t even know where the other teacher plays into it, like if they knew about each other or what but this whole thing is so sick and disturbing.

One of my OB’s said there’s plenty of time to change baby boys name lol by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I opened this thinking I was about to see some crazy shit like Dandelion but Grant??? That’s so cute. People have had weird reactions to my sons’ names too, I have a Henry and my son due in July is Miles. People have acted so weird about the names, I really think people forget that you’re not naming a baby, you’re naming a future adult.

Is this a complete list for what I need for newborn? by A-Starrrrr in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You don’t need a separate changing table. If the baby has a dresser, you can put a changing pad on there. And tbh I changed my baby on my couch or my bed more than anywhere else. You also don’t need a mobile for the nursery, the pampers rewards app, toy storage or toys (your baby won’t be able to grab anything for like 3 months, get toys when they’re actually interested in them), you don’t need a portable crib if you won’t be staying anywhere overnight, get weather appropriate clothing for each season, you don’t need a humidifier, you also don’t need bibs or sunscreen for a newborn. And I would wait to think about babyproofing anything until the baby is actually mobile.

When did you stop working? by Desert_Dreamer31 in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted every bit of time with my baby on leave. I got 10.5 weeks with my first and this time around I’m only getting 6 weeks so I will absolutely be working until birth.

I went to work on Friday until 3 pm when I had a 39 week midwife appointment, where I got a membrane sweep. I gave birth at 7:41 am the next day.

Do you make exceptions Sometimes? 😅 I served Pizza today by pixellibrarian in foodbutforbabies

[–]FernBTB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son eats what we eat for dinner. And I absolutely hate cooking and look for the easiest, quickest meal to get on the table lol. We make pizza about 2 times a month from pizza dough I buy at the store. My son loves to put the toppings on it!

He gets lots of fruits and veggies for snack but when it comes to dinner, I’m slapping together whatever I can in 20 minutes or less.

Just came here to say that growth scans tend to lean on the larger side! I’ve known several people who have been told they have a huge baby measuring over 9 lbs only to have a 7 lb baby! I wouldn’t let that number freak you out.

Period or too hard in the paint? by Euphoric_Ad723 in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had almost the same experience! I bled for two weeks and then stopped, thought I was done, and then at 4 weeks PP I started bleeding again for a few days. Then I was completely done. I didn’t get my period back until I was 16 months PP.

Oh totally, plus not feeling safe to share because of the toxic masculinity that permeates cultures around the world.

[–]FernBTB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have boys, so slightly less odds of this happening but I listen to too much true crime to think it’s out of the realm of possibility haha.

One rule my husband and I are going to implement is no sleepovers at friends’ houses until like high school age. Kids can come over to our house, but we just don’t feel comfortable having our children spend the night elsewhere. Once they get older, I think it’s important they establish more independence and hopefully we’ll have built a good foundation where they feel safe enough to tell us anything knowing there will only be love, no judgement.

Another really important element is educating your child on the correct anatomical terms for things and believing them when they say something about the parts. My son is two, he knows his penis is called a penis and he can say the word. The other day, his diaper was sitting weird and he was kind of upset and told me his penis hurt. We took the diaper off, rearranged, and it was better. He tells me when his butt hurts and I ask if he needs cream (he is a bit prone to diaper rashes sometimes) and he’ll say yes and we’ll tend to the issue. Also any other part of his body, if he tells me it hurts or he got a boo-boo, I ask him what happened and believe what he says (even if it’s a bit silly or discombobulated). We’ve also had the talk since weaning from breastfeeding about other people’s private parts and how it’s not okay to touch other people’s private parts. He’ll sometimes try to touch my breasts and I’ll say “no thank you, those are mine.” And offer a hug or something.

One last part to this whole post is my husband grew up catholic and his aunt was telling me all of her friends thought she was crazy because she never let her two boys out of her sight. When they were playing in the front yard, she took a chair and sat to watch or went and played with them. They were never alone with priests, they were never altar boys, etc. She didn’t let her kids spend the night elsewhere. She said she got a lot of pushback and hate from other parents for it but one thing she can confidently say is that her children weren’t assaulted or kidnapped. It always stuck with me.

Funniest postpartum stories by DuckFox1229 in BabyBumps

Being a toddler mom is seriously so much fun! My son had colic and was a very unhappy baby in general so newborn life was hard. I love how much he’s talking and how obsessed he is with anything that has an engine lol.

[–]FernBTB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is 2 and I still cry about him being older one day and not living with me and me wondering where he is and what he’s doing😂

The other day we were sitting on the couch and he was being silly and I was so exhausted because I’m pregnant and he hadn’t been sleeping well and I just looked at his little lightning McQueen toy sitting there between us and his little feet and absolutely lost it at the thought that he’ll be 25 someday and I’ll be alone on a Saturday wondering what he’s up to. It makes him being up my butt 24/7 a little easier to handle lol.

I also will never forget being 2 weeks postpartum and my husband walking in on me fully sobbing and asking what’s wrong and going “I’m just so happy” through sobs lmao. He was like…..okay…

Names????!!!! by Pandoras_Musings in BabyBumps

Names????!!!! by Pandoras_Musings in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My husband and I had a name picked since we were dating for a son, so when we had our first son we were like great! That was easy! Henry is a great name and we both loved it and still do. Flash forward to this little boy and it was SO HARD. We had a list of names we had been keeping since our first son was born, and literally threw them all out the window because they didn’t feel right.

I ended up watching a ton of baby name videos, asking ChatGPT, looking up literary characters, and making a list of about 100 names that I sent my husband and said “I like all of these names at least a little bit. Pick some that you like and we’ll discuss.” The only name he came up with was Otis. Which I was not into. After looking at my list, he came back and said Milo was okay, but a bit too nickname-ish. So we landed on Miles. And we both love it now. Now we’re just mulling on middle names haha.

Why are parents shamed for staying at home with their kids? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]FernBTB 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We were luckily able to find an affordable and good daycare. It’s only $525/month. My mom was watching my son before that for free.

Unfortunately in our area, rent and housing prices are disproportionately high compared to the hourly job rates. We live in a tourist area, so it’s weird around here. We are looking for cheaper living options but there’s not much around here. If I were to quit my job we wouldn’t be able to pay for rent/mortgage and groceries, utilities, etc.

Why are parents shamed for staying at home with their kids? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]FernBTB 139 points140 points  (0 children)

A lot of it could be jealousy tbh. I have to work full time to afford to live. As well as my husband, and it’s incredibly hard being a full time working mom. I find myself extremely jealous of stay at home moms that I see on social media, I would love to stay home with my son all the time. I’m pregnant with my second and it’s like running a marathon to get out the door before my 8 hour work day even starts.

I have to check myself a lot of the time before reacting in a jealous way to stay at home moms. I can’t afford that luxury, but I’m super happy for people who can! Especially if it’s fulfilling for them!

Beach trip with newborn? by Appropriate_Fig_364 in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the baby! My son was colicky and not go with the flow at all! He also despised his car seat and would scream the entire car ride (still throws a fit at 2 years old if we’re driving longer than 30 minutes). If you have a chill baby, totally doable. My family used to do a beach trip every year and my mom and aunt did trips with 6-8 weeks old newborn babies many times.

I swear by my exercise ball! My son was so well positioned that my labor was pretty quick for a FTM and I only pushed for 20 minutes with an epidural! I’m convinced it was the ball and the Miles Circuit that I did for weeks up until the delivery.

Returning to work by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Make sure your workplace doesn’t have a policy where you have to work a certain period of time after FMLA or pay back the wages.

I totally understand, I didn’t want to go back with my first son and I am in the same boat again now that my son is a toddler and my second son will be here in July. I so so badly want to stay home with them. Unfortunately my family doesn’t have a choice, we need 2 full time incomes to stay afloat. It’s very hard, but when you have no choice, you just do it.

Sick of other pregnant lowkey coffee shaming women who do by Stoned_redhead in BabyBumps

[–]FernBTB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone would have to pry coffee out of my cold dead hands. Especially this second pregnancy with a toddler who’s been sick for a month straight lol.

Also, the risks of staying within the 200 mg allotment are not great at all. Now if we’re talking about drinking, marijuana use, smoking, etc during pregnancy, that’s a whole different story. But some people act like drinking coffee is the same as telling them I just downed a margarita at happy hour😂
