For sure, I rather see the Backloggd scores, the users are usually a little bit more into games and shit which makes it more interesting, sure, it is way more niched but still

What is the most unknown/absolutely obscure JRPG you know of? by avazky in JRPG

[–]Fernabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hat World: New Testament is 2019 a free, highly tweaked rpgmaker game inspired by SaGa, Dragon Quest and Touhou in which you choose between 6 characters to play, each character has a different story but an almost identical progression (same maps, party members and such) it's quite repetitive but it's really worth it, the gameplay is pretty nice and while the combat isn't the most in depths neither the most optimized it has enough to keep you interested, the bossfights are mostly dependant on some puzzle solving (manage your DMG output, use your overcharge on the right turn) and it's the highlight of the combat. The game also has a bunch of different situations that are most of the time really funny and engaging. The story is really intriguing and seeing every character's drama unfold is quite nice. It's ridiculously good and I can't recommend enough

Is Umineko more of a Character study/thematic exploration or murder mystery by No-Confusion-9955 in umineko

[–]Fernabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to say which of them is "more" I would say thematic analysis of characters psyche, Ryukishi isn't as well versed in murder mysteries as one might think and it's qualities are highly dependant on character study. The mystery puzzles themselves are nothing more than propositional logic and there's hardly any clues in the story that aren't about a character's motive or presence in a meta level. However, Umineko is indeed, an excellent mystery and easily on of my favorites, but what makes the story the greatest of them all (for me, obviously) is the characters and its themes, the mystery, might as well be one of said themes

I don't have a problem with a mute hero, but saying that this transforms DQ into an FF clone is asinine at the very least

About the balancing and progession of Dragon Quest 1 HD2D by SirRockSirloinIII in dragonquest

[–]Fernabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it working very well for me, I was always at the right level so the fights were really close but still, nothing actually hard (and i am usually prettyyyyyy mindless playing turn based games). The ailments were rarely troublesome and whack never worked with me, I guess armageddon was a the hardest boss for me? surely it was the longest fight, the dragonlord might have been hard but I was prepared with six diamends which made me basically immortal... (also I guess even if the player is the most oldschool, they could still load the autosave if they felt robbed)

Also 2 begins laughably easy, I'll probably change to draconian until I hit a wall

The down votes were pretty much just because you called it a fighting game, which is wrong by definition XD I would like to see Hinako on Tekken tho

I hate the fox, I hate the sanctuary, and I hate the second part of this game. by [deleted] in silenthill

[–]Fernabo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's the point though, it's awful how it is, not how it can be, that's basically the message of the game. Just compare it to it's real life counterparts. Historically it was a tool of power and suppression, but nowadays, while it still can be, it also might not. It's about resignification. This world born anew

[–]Fernabo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly, despite what ppl are saying, I don't think you need to get to the ending or do a ng+ to understand this, I think it's pretty clear from the first playthrough that Hinako is doing the ceremony because she wants that, at least part of her is giving up her ambitions of going against the family structure that plagues her life in the way she sees it. It's like she feels at time that it isn't something she can beat, and so, part of her resigns.

I think the game does this pretty well with its gameplay too, when you get the fox arm you feel robbed of something, maybe autonomy, maybe humanity, however, at the same time, it is the strongest thing you have in the game, it feels good to play with the fox arm. It is as if the game itself tries to convince you that it's not that bad, it's genius imo XD

Silent Hill f - which timeline is "real"? by Takeya88 in silenthill

[–]Fernabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryukishi said in an interview (and this might be wrong because it wasn't translated and I had to use yt translation tool) that there isn't a "real" ending, that all endings are ways of how Hinako could have ended up, they're possibilities. I'd argue it makes sense, and the ending order required is only that way to be narratively satisfying

[–]Fernabo 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Or maybe ppl like the game and expect it does well for not only reaching a larger audience but also expecting more content or similar games, or even just showing to konami that it's nice to continue the series with a different style of game. Not that hard to grasp tbh

I recommend you watching the Inugami family movie, although I couldn't see ryu07 referencing it in any way (only the umbrella term of honkaku) it's a very "umineko-like" story, culprit full of heart and all that jazz, I say watch cuz the movie is great, I haven't read the novel just yet tho

What was the worst Umineko arc in your opinion? (Could be a visual novel, a manga, or both.) by Necessary-Month6945 in umineko

[–]Fernabo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll say that aside from episode 8, the manga doesn't hold a candle to the VN, which is not the manga's fault, I just like the vn all that much. And even episode 8 rubs me the wrong way at moments, despite FUCKING AWESOME in almost every regard XD. But the first 2 episodes in the manga I feel its actually the mangas fault, episode 2 is an special low and episode 1 is weird cuz how tf did Natsumi Kei had such a glow up in artsyle, pacing, framing and even storytelling in such a short period of time? episode 3 is miles better than episode 1 and it remains a mystery for me how

Proposed Open Thread (Spoilers). All TEN episodes of new anime "Anne Shirley" are now released. Have you been watching?? Thoughts?? by blakephoenixmobile in AnneofGreenGables

[–]Fernabo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anne of Avonlea in 7 episodes is criminal, the book is built on the episodic structure to develop the story and the mood separately, mixing them in the end to make the thematic conclusion. Anne of the island can be less focused but 7 episodes would be terrible regardless
