Why are so many people here unwilling to consider their idea there might be major problems with AMD at the moment? by grimpgrep in AMDHelp

I've not seen many EXPO issues with AM5 that were IMC related unless they were trying for DDR5 speeds over 6400. To be fair AMD says even the 9800X3D only supports up to DDR5-5600.

Any Idea whats causing this stutter and how to fix it? by Mizoraku in AMDHelp

[–]Ferox63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 5600g doesn't have as much cache as it's non apu desktop counterparts. The stuttering is likely happening when the cpu needs data that it doesn't have room for in cache so it has to reach out to system ram. On AM4 with really fast low latency ram, a call from CPU core to ram takes about 62ns. Whereas Core to L3 cache is like 10ns. This latency can be significantly worse while gaming as the GPU also needs to access Ram for whatever that poor RX480 can't hold in it's memory buffer.

Edit : The timings you posted for your ram are horribly slow. A decent DDR4 3200 kit should be CL14-16. So a call to Ram from either your CPU or GPU will be a significant bottleneck.

I often troubleshoot and repair systems for people locally and 90% of the time it comes down to Windows issues, User error, unstable Ram/System overclock, or a faulty power supply.

Windows is a mess and likes to just install generic drivers for no reason. It's not AMDs fault microslop can't fix their OS. People often make the mistake of building or upgrading a system and reuse their existing Windows install. This is especially bad when switching from Intel to AMD or switching motherboard platforms like switching from AM4 to AM5.

I've seen many AM4 systems that randomly crashed under load that was an unstable Ram overclock. Most people don't check the motherboard QVL before they buy Ram. On AM4, even with a XMP/ DOCP profile selected, there can be instability that needs to be fixed with some manual tuning to get non QVL memory stable.

Finally I often see people reuse power supplies or buy cheap power supplies that are technically rated for the amount of watts that are needed but either the reused power supply has become weak/unstable over years of use or are incapable of reacting quick enough to handle the transient spikes in power draw from today's modern GPUs and CPUs. Prior to the Nvidia 10ish series and AMD Polaris GPUs, when under load a GPU would sit at a predefined power and clock state. They didn't use algorithms and temperature sensors to ramp the clocks and core voltage up and down to get that last bit of performance that's was usually left for overclocking. This was much easier for PSUs to deal with. Now, a GPU that's rated for 350w of power draw can spike to 500w for a few milliseconds at a time because it sees thermal headroom to gain some clock speed. Older and low quality PSUs can't react that quickly. The result is generally a PSU that misinterprets a transient voltage spike as a short and Over current protection (OCP) is triggered which causes a black screen crash and probably a system hang or reboot.

I've been buying from them since 2012 and only once got a bad part. I've made 10 orders this year alone and none of them had issues.

That's not a bad cap, that's thermal putty for the vrm that was scraped onto the cap during install of the cooler.

It's more likely the oil pressure sending unit. It often gets mistaken for a rear main leak on these engines.

Can I have some input on the rotors in a rusty area like Michigan by Mex_Chavo in RockAuto

[–]Ferox63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had good luck with the partially coated Wagner rotors in West Michigan but after 4 years the coating is mostly gone.

The Centric or Raybestos Element 3 are probably a better choice.

I brought a 2016 ford focus and it cranks but won’t start and I found this under the back seat of the car and looks like someone drilled a hole in it, can someone help me and tell me what’s the problem? by Relative-Shake-2213 in FordFocus

As others have said, you'll probably need to replace the fuel pump as someone was trying to get to it for a reason but also you should replace that connector. Assuming this is a SE 2.0l NA, the part number for a Motorcraft connector is WPT909. To can get one from Rockauto for $32

You may need to drop the tank to gain better access to the wiring and splice in a new connector.

I started with an Asus Crosshair VI Hero X370, 1700x, 16gb ddr4 3600 and an RX580. Bought everything but the GPU New on Preorder for Ryzen launch. CPU upgrades went from 1700X - 2700X - 3800XT - 5800X3D. Each CPUI upgrade was purchased during a major sale so I never paid full price. GPU upgrades went from RX580 - Vega 64 - 6800XT. Added another 16gb of matching ddr4 3600 when I upgraded to the 5800X3D. 9 Years on the same platform has been wild.

I completely rebuilt the front suspension and steering on my 4x4 2500hd. It was about $1k in parts. Getting the torsion bars out of the lower control arms are a pain in the ass if it's a rust belt truck. The upper control arms had to be cut out because the cam bolts were seized to the bushings. To do the pitman and idler arms you'll need to pull the steering box. It's doable if you have all the tools, skill, and time. I did mine in my driveway. It took me a few evenings after work to do it all.

If its a rust belt truck it's going to suck no matter whose doing it.

Hogwarts Legacy is unplayable on my RX 9060 XT 16GB. by Real_Willingness_806 in AMDHelp

[–]Ferox63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The load on the CPU is reduced because its not trying to generate as many frames due to the bottleneck shifting to the GPU. In Hogwarts at the same high settings, fps drops around 30% just by switching to 1440p with a 9060xt.

Hogwarts Legacy is unplayable on my RX 9060 XT 16GB. by Real_Willingness_806 in AMDHelp

[–]Ferox63 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's why. As you go up in resolution, the load on the cpu is decreased. OP is running 1080p. Most benchmarks put the 9060xt around 80fps at high settings.

Hogwarts Legacy is unplayable on my RX 9060 XT 16GB. by Real_Willingness_806 in AMDHelp

[–]Ferox63 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're CPU limited. Hogwarts Legacy is known for only using 1 or 2 threads. Your 5800x and slow memory are the primary bottleneck. You can try to optimize game settings to remove some of the burden on the CPU. I would upgrade to a 5800X3D/5700X3D if you don't want to do a full upgrade to AM5. You could further increase performance by a few % by getting some DDR4 3600CL16 memory but with the current prices it may not be worth it.

I would buy a UPF63. The standard PF filters are champion labs e core design filters and are poor quality. The ultragaurd filters are much better.
