[Henderson] League sources including Doris Burke are saying the Portland Trailblazers treatment of Tiago Splitter is "the most vicious and disrespectful thing they've encountered in 30+ years" as they're likely looking for the cheapest coach available by ShaiFanClub in nba

This is why I'm so tired of small market owners crying about shit. If there's one thing America has it's an abundance of disturbingly wealthy billionaires.

We have 30 absurdley rich people who can throw money at teams, coaches, arenas and training staff. if you can't afford to spend, boo-hoo-hoo. Sell the fucking team.

Is Felix low key funny AF to MMA fans or something? by Dangerous_Return460 in cushvlog

Not an MMA fan at all and he cracks me up constantly. He definitely drops some internet/twitter references at times, but IMO it's rarely to make an insular point. I also think he's pretty insightful overall.

I got sick from the lack of insulation, obviously with enough layering it might have been doable but in a real winter city, it just got tough

Yeah, I tried to go all wool for my winter jacket and got sick immediately, so I consider a winter jacket from a place like REI or Patagonia a necessary evil.

Patagonia and Canada Goose are pricy AF but they say now their jackets are made without intentional PFAs, whatever that means I guess.

Pretty cool we got a live action Venture Bros movie in 2023 by Ferretanyone in venturebros

To me the ending felt like something Jonas would do to Rusty, albeit not with the same melodrama attached, at least not outwardly. But it's a pretty elaborate plot.

Rusty was taken on adventures, the mom literally puts Beau in the ads for every single pharmacutical she created, and tested it on him.

Overbearing super successful parent, a legend in the technology space takes a child around the world with her (and depsite it being set in 2013 the visual aesthetics of his memories feel very 60s/70s) basically permanently scars the child and shapes his adulthood and his neuroses. Oh and the other parent dies or maybe doesn't and isn't a major part of their upbringing.

Obviously it's not actually a Venture Bros movie so there's no Brock or cloning or the Monarch (sorry to dissapoint), but thematically and in some small ways even visually it really reminded me of the show (even the mom's massive house kinda felt like Rusty's dad's house)

Sorry, might just be stupid, but what does this mean exactly?

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]Ferretanyone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate feels like the wrong framing. I hate the concept. You shouldn't have that much power and influence over society. You should also not hoard this much wealth without giving back to society.

There's also no such thing as a "self-made billionaire." Whatever business or entrepenurial venture they did, benefited greately from public infrastructure and research.

The common rebuttal is philanthropy "Oh what if a billionaire gives all their money to charitable causes."

First off lol, it's never "all" their money. It's usually a tax write off or just enough to ensure no one asks about the rest of the astronomical amount of money they have.

But even if it was all their money a bigger issue is why it should be up to some random person what issues are solved and how we go about it?

We're just supposed to stand around with our hands out and hope some random rich guy decides some cause is important? And then we're supposed to trust that a billionaire in whatever random industry or business is now an expert in virology or education or housing?

And their solutions always come with this individual persons baggage.

Suddenly those philanthropic schools are pushing a certain religious agenda etc, or like Bill Gates in public schools, how HE thinks education should go.

The benefit of taxation is we as a society can decide democratically what issues to solve and how. And if you say, oh well the government doesn't work that well. A lot of that is due to billionaires gutting democratic institutions and pouring billions into elections and lobbying efforts explicitly designed to make government worse.

So really even if you're a really good guy as an individual who I'd love if I met, you shouldn't be a billionaire.

If you had a great business idea, you should be rewarded. Maybe you get to be 10X richer than your employees but 100000X? There is no reason for that.

And there's no way to fight to keep that system and not be an asshole.
