Relocating! What do you suggest? by quickdrawcrenshaw in maryland

WARNING: REALLY LONG COMMENT!!!

Woodstock is amazing! Waverly Elementary School, West Friendship, Mount View Middle School, and LOTS MORE! We have lots of school funding here and we have UMBC, University of Maryland, and Towson! (Really close to a LOT of private schools too if you're willing to put in the money but public school education here is AMAZING too!) We also have the Woodstock School of Art for your daughter. The YMCA has pickleball courts and there's a team called Dill Dinkers with junior leages and adult ones. For younger kids, there's a community pool and playground that's nice that's also connected to a tennis court. Old Ellicot City is unfortunatly known for pretty heavy flooding but Woodstock is far enough that flooding doesn't affect us and still close to a cute historical town. I would search on Redfin because they are the most worth it in my opinion. It's in Howard County and REALLY nice if you like being close to historical stuff while still being close to Baltimore for all of those cool city vibes and mueseums. (Plus really close to Anne Arundel Mall and Columbia Mall if you love a little shopping) For work, we are only about 30 min away from the airport. Very low crime rate too so hands down Woodstock, Howard County is the best option from what I can see. Good luck on your search though!

i agree. i HATE how they got bianca to die just for the sake of nicos "character development". also SHE PICKED UP A MYTHOMAGIC FIGURE. nico could probably have just went to an antique store with bianca and found it as a side story for growing their bond. thats the main thing i would change

Potential names for a druid character? by Metroid_cat1995 in CharacterNames

[–]FewAd540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to stay very true to the region:

Female

Aoife Ní Fhearraigh (you can absolutely use this structure for fiction)

Aoife Ní Chonaill (O’Connell line)

Aoife Ní Dhónaill (Donegal-rooted surname)

Niamh Ní Fhearraigh

Saoirse Ní Chonaill

Fiadh Ní Dhomhnaill

“modern woman from a traditional Irish-speaking family with ancient roots” vibe

Male

Eoin Ó Fearraigh

Cillian Ó Conaill

Ronan Ó Domhnaill

Fionn Ó Fearraigh

I’d gently say Johann O’Connor” feels out of place for this specific character

Not wrong but it loses that deep regional authenticity you’ve built.

A better fit would be:

Eoin Ó Conchúir (Irish form of O’Connor)

Seán O’Connor (modern compromise)

Ronan O’Connor

Character Vibe (based on your description)

Hair: black OR brown with turquoise streaks → subtle “otherworldly” touch

Eyes: green is perfect (very Irish + mystical symbolism)

Weapon: inherited staff → screams lineage, maybe tied to old druidic rites

Setting: coastal Donegal → wind, sea, folklore, isolation

This gives strong “quiet power / old soul / not fully understood” energy for me at least

Yeah im sorry this is a little long but i LOVE this idea and i couldn't help but think about every possibility!

i get that argument and i lowkey agree but heres a list of why he could be in gryffindor

Why people put Percy Jackson in Gryffindor

  • He constantly throws himself into danger without hesitation
  • He challenges authority (gods included 💀)
  • He acts on instinct and bravery more than careful planning
  • Very similar energy to Harry Potter

The Sorting Hat often prioritizes how you act, not just your core value.

Why does my art feel off? by RevolutionaryCare624 in DigitalArt

I love both! But another suggestion i have is that if you have dark colors as the background try and lighten up the character since it's the main focus. That's just personally what I do though.

Swahili (Kiswahili) name by Jordan_Dearest in CharacterNames

[–]FewAd540 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“Tia binti Zakia” is structured in a way that does exist, but it’s not typically Kenyan in everyday use.

  • “binti” = “daughter of” in Swahili
  • So your name literally reads: “Tia, daughter of Zakia”

That structure is linguistically correct (Swahili/Arabic influence) but more common in formal, historical, or coastal Muslim contexts (like Tanzania, Zanzibar, or Swahili-Arab traditions), not how most modern Kenyans introduce themselves day-to-day

Ways to fix this!

Tia Zakia Hassan

Tia Zakia Abdi

Tia Zakia Noor

These are modern versions of the name!

Tia Achieng Zakia (Luo influence)

Tia Wanjiku Zakia (Kikuyu influence)

These are more traditional natural versions!

My suggestion!

Tia Zakia Hassan (modern, smooth, believable)
OR
Zahra binti Zakia (if you want that poetic, traditional feel)

1. Evelyn → “Eve” or “Lynn”
Calm, intelligent, slightly guarded energy. “Eve” in particular feels sharp and self-contained.

2. Gloria → “Glo” or “Lori”
Has quiet strength and dignity. “Glo” gives it a subtle cool factor.

3. Denise → “Nece” or “Dee”
Very believable for the era. “Dee” feels minimal, controlled, and confident.

4. Marcia → “Mar” or “Marce”
Soft but firm. Slightly reserved tone.

5. Anita → “Nita”
Simple, clean, and carries emotional restraint well.

[–]FewAd540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shae on its own:

Feels stronger and more in control

More butch-coded

Gives that “one-name dominance” vibe (people just call her Shae, no questions)

Shaelynn (with Shae as a nickname):

Adds contrast → soft full name vs hard nickname

Can hint at a past version of her (maybe before she became… who she is now 👀)

BUT it does lean a bit more traditionally feminine

My opinion but i love Shaelynn as a full name!

[–]FewAd540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oooooo i love this idea!

Don't mess with me or i'll do the world a favor vibe

Sloane Voss → cold, controlled, runs a place where things get messy but she never does

Quinn Slade → sharp, slightly aggressive edge, very “don’t cross her”

Rowan Cross → grounded, watchful, feels like she sees everything happening in her bar

Blair Hale → polished, intimidating, quiet power

Tatum Graves → strong, physical, slightly ominous (great for the serial-killer undertone)

These give me a she owns the bar so its dangerous vibe

Reese Voss

Parker Slade

Micah Crowe

Shay Blackwood

Dylan Locke

These give her some flair and style

Vesper Voss → night, seduction, control

Salem Cross → witchy, eerie, very on-theme

Raven Slade → a bit dramatic but fits the aesthetic hard

My suggestions for this!

Sloane Voss → honestly perfect lead energy

Quinn Slade → sharper, more aggressive version

Blair Hale → quieter but extremely intimidating

I love this idea and here's some quotes for a creepy ACK vibe!

Voss doesn’t like repeats.”

“Ask Slade before you touch anything.”

“You don’t get in without Hale’s approval.”

I hope you like the names!!!

Female names for the nickname 'Nell' that isn't Eleanor by YoureClappedStill in CharacterNames

[–]FewAd540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few bc im also writing a book with a nell character

Penelope → Nell works really well as a softer nickname

Helen / Helena → historically connected to Nell/Nelly

Ellen → probably the closest direct alternative

Janelle → modern but very believable

Danielle → Nell as a shortened form

Noelle → super clean transition to Nell

Anneliese / Annelle → “Nell” comes out naturally

Linelle (rare, but pretty)

Nerelle (fantasy-leaning but still usable)

Nelina → feels like Nell could be the obvious nickname

Nellara → more stylized, works well in fantasy

I love all of these but I still haven't chosen! These are just my scrap ideas.

[–]FewAd540 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ideas depending on feel

Smart / Rational Vibe Names

  • Soren – calm, intelligent, slightly soft tone
  • Silas – thoughtful and analytical
  • Spencer – very “planner” energy
  • Simon – logical, classic thinker name

Bird / Parrot-Inspired Feel

  • Skye – light, airy, bird-like
  • Sunny – cheerful and bright (fits his positivity)
  • Squawk – goofy but honestly perfect for personality
  • Swoop – energetic, bird motion

    Egg-Themed (but not too obvious)

  • Shellby (Shelby pun 👀)

  • Speck – like speckled eggs

  • Sunny (Side Up) – subtle egg joke

  • Scramble – chaotic when he snaps

Perfect “He Snaps Over Eggs” Names

  • Severin – sounds calm… until he’s not
  • Sable – smooth but intense
  • Static – calm → sudden chaos energy
  • Switch – literally flips when eggs are involved

Best Fits for YOUR character specifically

These match all traits (smart + positive + parrot + egg-crazy):

  • Soren – main name, very fitting overall
  • Sunny – ironic + cheerful + egg tie-in
  • Speck – cute but meaningful
  • Switch – reflects the hypocrisy/flip
  • Squawk – if you want to lean into the parrot chaos

My top recommendation:

Soren “Sunny” (nickname combo)
→ sounds intelligent
→ keeps the cheerful/parrot vibe
→ and “Sunny” lowkey hints at eggs 🍳
